Hi Seniors,

I have set my goals on an Alessandro MS1i(Choice between Grado SR60 and 80, and MS1i). I listen to all types of music from jazz to hard rock.

Any other alternatives for that similar RM400++ price range?

Thank you...

Budget RM200+ to RM400.

- using ipod, plan to get a decent amp for it too after this..
- type of usage: music
- source: mostly flac... and some mp3
- type of music listen to: jazz and some live clips
- prefer: closed/opened
- hope can get a good value for money while enjoying natural sound and wider soundstage

Thinking of Grados SR60 to Alessandros MS1
*
me no audiophile... just a noobie headphone collector tongue.gif BUT from what i read, Grados/ Alessandros got no soundstage/ very very narrow. I have an MS1i and from what I can tell is that it's "in your face" kind... not like in a concert hall.

Probably, you can try the ATH-AD series or the Sennheiser HD5XX series. If you look hard enough, you might be able to find a pair fitting your budget.

hello guys , i am currently finding a HEADphone for myself but i have no experience in that whatsoever , any good recommendation?

my budget is around rm 300~400

usage is for 70% music and 30% gaming

and i hope the design isnt that bad either , cause sometimes maybe i want to use it outdoors

firstly i wanted to get steel series Siberia / senheiser hd555

but those are quite old tech , released at least 5 years ago , and i read comments from internet saying their quality for music is so-so.

any recommendation will be greatly appreciated , thanks in advance =X
***i wear spectacles and i want a headphone that provide comfort even after hours of usage. i have experienced some which makes your ear irritated after a few hours.

and i want to use it to listen music through my phone , so theres no ultra sound cards in my phone. any one with good sound w/o good sound card? and very good with sound card? (ill sometimes use it for pc too)

i dont want to buy an amp also , and i want it to be ultra comfy!
*
you can try to get the ATH-AD700. it's good for music and gaming. i have a pair now and all i can say is that it's great! i wear glasses too. no problem with that. it's actually very very comfy. no amp needed for it too. if you search a bit in the forum, u might be able to get a pair at around your budget.

cheerios...

Senn HD range very wide... which model u have in mind?

I have a HD438 (maybe u can't consider this an audiophile model tongue.gif ). don't quite like them with rock. they're ok with techno. i would tend to pick up my alessandro MS1i for rock music. do check them out.

For Alessandro's MS1i ? He quoted me RM460 sad.gif
*
edited my previous post. think 4xx will cause less confusion. it's about that. if you were to get it from alessandro directly, it's usd 110. @ current exchange rate of 3.5, it's about RM400. the difference of RM60 will save you a lot of effort and time. best of all... you can get it sooner rclxms.gif

I am using it for my iPhone, MacBook Pro, NDSi and other appliances. Do you think Alessandro's MS1i is portable enough on the go?
*
it's portable but as it's a pair of open can, u will not enjoy it as it doesn't keep noise out/ or noise in. u can hear everything around u and everyone around u can hear what u hear. so... no watching xxx on ur iphone or macbook hmm.gif <--- joking tongue.gif

ohh... meaning the open back cans do have a wider soundstage compared to similar closed back cans... so i guess if there is a closed back grado, the soundstage would be even narrower... hmm, u're pretty good at explaining. i always get confused by audiophile terms. hahaha tongue.gif thanks! notworthy.gif
naah, not weird at all. they look pretty cool actually. but not sure if people nearby would appreciate ur taste in music. if i saw someone with an alessandro in a subway, i would think "damn, those cans are really sweet. wish i could have one. but why is he listening to kris allen?" (it's just an example, i have nothing against kris allen.. sweat.gif ). but really, i think it depends on how much u crank up the volume as well. if u're not the type to push the volume to the max, i dont think people nearby are going to be bothered. it's not like the subway is a quiet and calm place to begin with anyway... sweat.gif

Added on January 2, 2010, 10:36 pm-just wanna add, it would only be unbearably annoying if u sing along to the music. if u dont, i dont think anyone would actually care. at least i dont. tongue.gif
*
i tried using my ms1i on a bus before...

1.can hear everything "outside" very clearly, therefore, turn up volume a bit rclxms.gif tongue.gif
2.then... an aunty, 2 rows behind me goes... vmad.gif "oi! u don't want to sleep, people want to sleep one leh!" vmad.gif
3.i kwai kwai go to sleep also lor...

So if i buy a pair of Alessandro MS1i, I wouldn't regret a single cent, as it worth as much as i paid for them? What do you think Darth? Between Audio Technica "FOTM" ATH-AD700, Alessandro "in-your-face" MS1i, Sennheiser "dunno-why-i-buy" HD438, Soundmagic PL-21, Altec Lansing "Kayu" MHP136, Bluetooth-ed Plantronics Pulsar 590, "Blu-tack + Foam Modded" Sony MDR-XD200, Audio Technica ATH-WS70; which headphone is the best purchase?
*
wah lau...quote everything in my sig... actually, i don't know. let's break them down, u analyse.

1. AD700- i still find them too bright. maybe when i get home (after my fren burn them 20 hours a day with pink noise), it might get better. they're damn comfy
2. MS1i - they're pretty great for rock songs but soundstage too narrow. macam singer singing next to ur ears. it's a grado signature FWIR. it's either u like them or u don't
3. HD438 - they're a little muddy but great for action packed/ explosive movies with little dialogue. overall, not too bad for the money
4. PL21 - quite crappy, use them for my gym sessions only
5. MHP136 - bassy, lacks a little clarity. use them for bus trips now, after kena scolded by aunty
6. Pulsar 590 - i use them when i don't want wires to get in the way, like when i'm ironing or cooking. clarity is so-so. bass sux
7. MDR-XD200 - bought them only to practice modding. was crap initially but now after mod, mids are clearer and bass tighter. soundstage is like MS1i
8. WS70 - still burning in. can't comment much except it's very very bassy (tight one) and not comfy (for now)

i might be a little prejudiced coz i don't quite like iems.

if the AD700 turns out alright, it will be the best purchase.

disclaimer: me no expert. just a noobie/ newbie in this headphone thingy. take my comments with a pinch of salt.

the aunty just jealous lah...  laugh.gif
umm, i guess it is quite disturbing to some people... some people mind , some people dont. it's such a shame that this minor flaw causes some people to look into other brands. anyway, between the MS1i and the AD700, which one would u prefer for mainly music listening? (not that i can afford the ad700, but i'll just think of it as the ad300's bigger bro)

@Kernkraft400: PL21 is an IEM. So i guess u can cross it out from ur list. but of course with IEMs, sound leakage wouldnt be an issue.
*
i feel that the ad700 caters to a wider range of music..it's just that... it's too bright now when it comes to female voices cry.gif

Its worth every cent. It sounds good out-of-the-box. Need to burn in for a few hours. I realized the 3.5mm plug doesn't fit in iPhone's 3.5mm. Any adapters that I could use? I mean it fits, but it doesnt go in because MS1i's 3.5mm isnt long enough.

eh? it should fit fine coz i tried with my friend's iphone before hmm.gif
