Hi all. I am also looking to upgrade my photography experience from the normal digital camera to a DSLR camera. I have zeroed down my selection to Canon 450D and Canon 500D (how come nobody discuss about this camera yet?). The price difference (with other usual kits in the package) is RM600. (1) Should I go for the newer 500D which has video mode, higher pixel 15MP? (2) Should I replace the 18-55mm lense to the long range lense 18 -200mm lense, as suggested by the retailer? My budget is no more than RM3.5k. Konpius ni! This post has been edited by Stamp: Oct 9 2009, 04:03 PM

Thanks fellas for the pointers.
Ive made my dslr camera purchase: Canon 500D with kitlense 15-55mm IS, 16Gb Sandisk II, Hoya filter lense, screen protector, Canon labelled bag, 5 ft tripod, cleaning kit, and 3 yr Canon warranty; slightly above my RM3.5k budget.
I decided to hold purchase of zoom lense until I become terrer taking the usual portrait and macro shots using this camera. So far I spent whole day today experimenting with the camera. Really syioklaaa.

I feel that forummers should answer the TS query.
The TS never asked for your opinions whether one should get a DSLR camera or not, or he never asked for comparisons between a compact digital camera and a DSLR camera.
People in this forum have plenty of opinions, and sometimes some of them give unsolicited and unrelated opinions, out of arrogance I suppose.
Haih!

QUOTE(shootkk @ Oct 15 2009, 09:32 AM) The best DSLR camera is one that you feel comfortable holding, can operate with ease and is happy with the output it produces. Brand matters not. You can buy the most expensive DSLR out there but if you just hate to hold it, it is not going to give you any good pictures. In the same vein, if you feel very comfortable holding and using a disposable film camera, it'll give some great pictures for sure. You are right! When I asked one DSLR sifu the same question posed by the TS, he told me to go and feel out (or in his exact word 'go raba-raba' ) all DSLR camera models available in the camera shops. I did just that, and I found one camera that I felt comfortable using and priced within my budget.
