sweet!!!! nice shoes!

i have a question though.

how do you clean the soles before putting them in the carrier bag? i dont want the dirt and grime to go into the bag and goes around the shoes; damaging the leather and bag itself.

in the past, what i did was to dust the soles, wipe clean, air dry and wrap the soles only with those clear polystrene wraps sold in hardware shops. similar to those sandwich wraps, just not food grade.

works well, but turned out to be a lot of work especially if i am travelling.

leather soles in my case.

no, Beau, I am not referring to storing shoes in the house. i was talking about storing these shoes inside the cotton bag and in the suitcase when travelling.

regarding the cabinet to keep shoes in the house, i am thinking of getting 1 made also from teak wood, cant think of any design yet.

i just made 1 box to store my shoe care stuff from teakwood last week....yea yea i know i can easily use an old shoe box..LOL

i got it done here in Indonesia. Teak wood is plentiful here. I dont know about Malaysia. Initially i wanted to use Chengal wood, but nobody knows what i was talking about. anyway teak is way more than enough for shoe box or rack, in fact way overkill.

i paid only about USD40 plus to get it made.dirt cheap. it could be even cheaper i dont know.

i know for sure Malaysia would cost me more just to buy the wood.

usd40 IMHOP is way cheap enough, that's less than RM150; took them 3 days. this includes, wood and labour and the replica vintage brass fittings. i am not familiar with wood work prices in KL, but i seriously doubt i could get anybody to make it for me in teak for this price.

i saw the Saphir box, wanted something similar but bigger and i cant afford to order the box and ship to Indonesia. Indonesia is very bad for mail ordering stuff.

i dont have any measurements when i made it, so i made up my own. i think it is a foot in height excluding lid, and about 2 ft length.

they could also get carvings done for you, but that time i dont know what design to do, so i just left it as it is. when i think of something, they can get it done for me easy.

BV, i aint a wood speacilist; although i appreaciate fine wood working, i brought a local friend of mine to check it out. mine is just the normal grade teak, they have vintage wood here, prices are very high.

i am now looking for a shoe cabinet design, enough for 20-30 pairs of shoes.

Added on September 2, 2010, 8:12 pmBV, you can get one made, but you need to spend a few days here and wait for them to finish so you can bring it back.if you can come i can show you the shops. plenty here.

i don't dare to ship anything out of Indonesia. i was told i need to pay tax even for my own stuff, not sure how true.

thanks beau. i am in south jakarta, apartment's there but i move around quite a lot.

all the wood shops i checked were in Ciputat Raya and Kemang Timur. rows of wood and antique wood shops here. all you need to do is just go into any of the shops and they will make anything for you provided you give them the design and dimensions.

i like the sound of your box with the slanted rest. smile.gif...make get something similar done.

they have a lot of vintage teak furnitures, boxes that i like, but i cant think of any place to put in my apartment. those are not cheap, but considered 'cheap' to us because they are not easily available back home.

the current shoe rack in my apartment is hopeless as it is not 'deep enough to put any of my shoes. Also lack of ventilation.

Added on September 3, 2010, 10:47 amcool stuff Beau. i am quite sure it can be done easily...let me think if i should get another new box done or just to fit onto the existing box.
any additional ideas welcomed.

thanks beau, will update here. might just go with a stand with the slant on top so i can polish my shoes while sitting down on the sofa. LOL. see how it goes.

my

Beau, what is Camphor lining?

Added on September 3, 2010, 12:08 pmThe Saphir box was what got me interested in shoe boxes to be honest. Not to mention my shoe care products are always stored in a torn old shoe box and things are all over the place.

However the size of the Saphir box was not practical enough for me, way too small and also price; i think they have bigger versions, but still too msall for me. Maybe they are meant for frequent travellers who likes to polish their shoes during their trips....not me, i am lazy. haha.

they may look nice, but not much of a use for me other than bragging rights. they look too nice and clean to stuff a dirty shoe brush or polish cloth inside! LOL.

being a foreigener here, i could not continue with one of my main hobbies, automobiles. so i am turning to shoes, wood work, antiques and very recently, clothes to tinker about in my spare time.

Company policy discourages purchasing an automobile or even a property here. I could lose my job. cars i fancy are also expensive here anyway. sad.gif..malaysia better, more choices.

yea everyone has a driver here and a Toyota...LOL.

i was at Harvey Nichols today and I dint see those shoes. i will look again.

the black shoes are at Louis Vuitton.

i went to a few wood shops today, found one that specialises in imported Chinese and Tibetian furnitures. very nice prices. i cant afford anything there. i saw a 90 years old walnut chest from China with champfor lining, price was USD2.2K. still thinking what can i do with a chest like that.

saw a shoe rack that is close to what i need, minor changes required (vent holes, front door desigh and vintage front brass lock) , made from recycled teak ( old) USD300. not bad. but i need to find a space to put it.

spoke to a few wood shop guys, learnt a thing or 2 about how to look at new or old teak and what to go for, terms used.

saw a shoe cabinet i really liked inside Grande Indonesia, but salesgirl dint allow me to take any pics. ....$%^&...not for sale also.

Tailors - I found one, supposingly to be good, Laxmi Tailors, but i had no time to check them out in detail.

Honestly, right now i dont need any DB, or suit, just some good pants, khakis and long sleeve shirts. still reading up on these slowly. may get a DB made later one when i am done familiar with those.

sorry, no time to do any drawings for now. i really dont know anything about engineering drawings.

yea will try them out later, but first i need to read on all the info before i go and make anything. the mistake i did when i made shirts in Bangkok was i new nothing about cuffs, yoke, fused, canvassed. zero knowledge. i just went in and told them i need a shirt made. hahaha.

went back to Harvey Nichols on sunday, couldnt find any Edward Green or Lobb, found some Churches on 50% discounts, but as expected with sales items, very very few choices and sizes available, nothing caught my eye. prices after discount was USD280...before USD560.

Added on September 6, 2010, 12:02 pmnot an addict, but i am a long time fan and user of their monogram wallets. thankfully all i like and can afford are their wallets and keychains. their wallets are still what i would say 'affordable' for now.

no way i would pay USD1450 for a pair of shoes...not my league yet.

i wanted to support the local guys, thats why i have been looking hard for the Jalan Sri Vijaya shoes.

i have checked out the local shoe makers here, they have a few, but i dint see what i like at all.

Mario Minardi, Andre Valentino, are some local makes i can find in shopping malls, with decent quality, good year welted, but designs are not to my liking, and leather quality nowwhere as near as those british shoes.

i actually bought a pair of Andre valentino shoes just for the fun of it, KL selling for RM599 , over here i paid USD90 in Debenhams.

Um... i bet there are several websites you can watch their fitting skills...  rolleyes.gif

As for the nice stuffs in Plaza Indonesia.... that's kinda like their starhill... the only shops i actually frequent there is the "Duck King" gotta love their menus

By the way pupjoint, maybe we can meetup next time I'm in JKT (should be next month, pointless going down during the lebaran period, not to mention the threat of a free haircut currently offered). Will be staying at Hyatt as usual.

Where is HN located? And any idea when is their sales until? 50% churches looks tempting..

sure we can meet up. PM me your BBM pin if you use blackberry.

I frequent to Duck King too. hehehe.

HN is located on the East Mall of Grande Indonesia. not sure when sales ending, but you may not get what you want - design and sizing wise.
