Hey Sifus! I have a few leather shoes and i take good care of them but i do not know which product should i use i was about to polish my hugo boss oxford shoes today and this question came to my mind after looking through all the products i have for shoes

Attached Image

Heres the picture!

from left to right

Tarrago- Protects against liquid - for all kind of leather

PALC - Self Shining shoe cream for Dark Brown Shoes

Kiwi - Colour Shine Brown Instand Polish

Minit - Cleans, protects and cares in an instant

Aldo - Instant Gloss

Woly - Fashion Leather Cream for Black Shoes

After polishing a shoe do you remove the old polish and polish it all over again?

Or do you polish over the the previous polishes?

Thank you very much!

I suck in taking good cares for me shoes but i love them =)

I use this method

This is a really fast and a very neat method because it is even both laces would fall to the sides

Thanks guys.

Can we really resole GYW shoes here? Can really trust cobblers off the street?
*
Hey buddy I don't think you'll be able to fix GYW shoes here in Malaysia, I've asked the cobbler at ikano and she said instead of fixing it she'll add a layer of vibram rubber sole underneath the shoes..

Wanted to fix my cheaneys sole, so I guess I'll just send it back to their factory biggrin.gif

My Loake 1880s are burnished calf leather. Is that full grain or corrected grain?
*
Burnished could be done on either full or corrected grain leather..

I think sending an email to Loake would give you the accurate answer biggrin.gif

You're welcome! Although I have not fix any soles with them before, they did a really good job on my belt, just that the owner is really proud of herself so you might be a lil offended if you share an opinion that she doesn't like haha..

Guys what are your methods/steps for leather shoes maintenance/shine?

For me its:
1) Leather conditioner
2) Wax
3) Wax + water for mirror shine

Recently read an article from the shoe snob and his methods were:
1) Strip old wax
2) Conditioner
3) Cream polish
4) Wax polish
5) Wax + water for mirror shine

Would love to hear how others take care of their high end shoes and what products you use.
*
Nail polish remover, very little used
Saphir renovator
Saphir cream
Saphir wax
Saphir wax and water till happy with shine biggrin.gif

Isn't renovator used to stripped all the build up wax? Or nail polish remover is better? Heard of a few peeps using it as well but I'm a little scared if it would spoil the leather.
I also always brush my shoes with a horse hair brush before and after use.  thumbup.gif

Water + Vinegar?? For mold?

So its better to use cream + polish together? I haven't tried using creams because I'm afraid I might alter the color of my shoes..

Where do you guys source Saphir from? Currently I'm just using some neutral wax for my tan shoes but it sometimes leaves some white residue which I dislike. I'm looking around for the right color cream/wax for them.

I usually spend a couple of hours with my shoes and my whole family will say I'm wasting time/crazy.  sweat.gif

Haha me too when I first started..

A friend of mine once told me not to wax to much on the second , the key is to have fast repetitive strokes instead of hard strokes on the surface(because it might remove the wax instead) with water..

I only use 1 coating of wax on the surface which have the most stress on it, to much wax would create that cracks which spoils the whole purpose..

I got my Saphir from UK, I have some friends there! You can actually get them from Ikano as well, a little pricey but no choice and I don't think they bring in the Pommadier line too but not to sure about it sad.gif Plal used to have them but now they don't..

Uhmm about colours its very personal.. I prefer lighter colours and would try to experience red on brown and blue on black in the future biggrin.gif

The beauty of how you leather evolves with the patina is what we want to achieve I guess? biggrin.gif

I took my worn out Obermains to the repair shop in Ikano today. Holes in the sole and heel. The boss there said its RM 70 to stick a rubber sole and another RM 60 for the heel. That's the cheapest according to him. But that's too expensive for me considering the shoes are more than two years old and I bought them for only RM 200.

Any other options guys? Any cobbler in mid valley?
*
Hey buddy, I guess for cheaper alternatives you can look at cobblers by the side of sidewalks, most of them are close to the banks,

There's one Maybank Damansara Jaya and another the public bank Uptown (IINM not to sure about the Uptown Damansara part, to many banks around!)

Any shoes around 500 bucks in P.Lal as well?

Boss has been nagging me to get a pair of "Nicer" work shoes since I am actively meeting client now.

But cheapskate me ain't willing to wear Allen Edmonds and go walking around to other people's place laugh.gif

I think there should be shoes that are around that price but it would be cemented most probably..

Reason why we purchase such fine shoes because it is made out of full grain leather and it'll age like wine with proper care and maintenance, it defeats the whole purpose if you do not wear it often.. unless your AE is made out of polished leather I guess you should wear it as least as possible..

just my 2cents lol

It's true that our weather is humid but I guess that we do still need to condition our shoes because after conditioning and cream, we end our shoe polishing with wax which helps with the mirror finished..

This in return also help protect our shoes from water and rain and therefore a conditioning once in a while is a must
