Company policy discourages purchasing an automobile or even a property here. I could lose my job. cars i fancy are also expensive here anyway. ..malaysia better, more choices.

Most companies have the same policy for Indonesia. An Australian colleague met with an accident in Surabaya ( he was rear ended by a lorry whose brakes failed ) The local court ruled against him & said that the accident was his fault because he was in the country. We had to evacuate him within 24 hours!!

BTW the shoes were not at Harvey Nichols at Grand Indonesia Mall opposite Plaza Indonesia? I had some time to kill before a function & was amazed at the variety of high end shoes ( Oliver Sweeney, John Lobbs etc ) as compared to KL & Singapore. The asking prices were also amazing

1. Have Pupjoint put up the specs & dimensions etc
2. Get quotes from various places that specializes in Indonesian Teak ( minimum three quotes )
3. Find out how many forum members would like to participate in a group purchase
4. Negotiate with vendor
5. Share final price , specs & quote on forum
6. Purchase item.

I don't think it is practical to purchase this in Indonesia given the logistical challenges in having it shipped out from there so the next best choice would be the various shops that specialize in Indonesian Teak furniture. Given sufficient demand , they may manufacture a run of this box & forum members can purchase it directly from the outlet.

i was at Harvey Nichols today and I dint see those shoes. i will look again.

the black shoes are at Louis Vuitton.

i went to a few wood shops today, found one that specialises in imported Chinese and Tibetian furnitures. very nice prices. i cant afford anything there. i saw a 90 years old walnut chest from China with champfor lining, price was USD2.2K. still thinking what can i do with a chest like that.

saw a shoe rack that is close to what i need, minor changes required (vent holes, front door desigh and vintage front brass lock) , made from recycled teak ( old) USD300. not bad. but i need to find a space to put it.

spoke to a few wood shop guys, learnt a thing or 2 about how to look at new or old teak and what to go for, terms used.

saw a shoe cabinet i really liked inside Grande Indonesia, but salesgirl dint allow me to take any pics. ....$%^&...not for sale also.

Tailors - I found one, supposingly to be good, Laxmi Tailors, but i had no time to check them out in detail.

Honestly, right now i dont need any DB, or suit, just some good pants, khakis and long sleeve shirts. still reading up on these slowly. may get a DB made later one when i am done familiar with those.

sorry, no time to do any drawings for now. i really dont know anything about engineering drawings.

Laxmi's supposed to be one of the older tailors in Jakarta. Do share your experiences with us on the tailoring thread should you decide to try them.

Seen a similar designed box at one of the teak shops in Plaza Damas . Make sure they are lined with an inner cloth otherwise you may find snags etc on your clothes

yea will try them out later, but first i need to read on all the info before i go and make anything. the mistake i did when i made shirts in Bangkok was i new nothing about cuffs, yoke, fused, canvassed. zero knowledge. i just went in and told them i need a shirt made. hahaha.

went back to Harvey Nichols on sunday, couldnt find any Edward Green or Lobb, found some Churches on 50% discounts, but as expected with sales items, very very few choices and sizes available, nothing caught my eye. prices after discount was USD280...before USD560.

no way i would pay USD1450 for a pair of shoes...not my league yet.

Um... i bet there are several websites you can watch their fitting skills...

As for the nice stuffs in Plaza Indonesia.... that's kinda like their starhill... the only shops i actually frequent there is the "Duck King" gotta love their menus

By the way pupjoint, maybe we can meetup next time I'm in JKT (should be next month, pointless going down during the lebaran period, not to mention the threat of a free haircut currently offered). Will be staying at Hyatt as usual.

i wanted to support the local guys, thats why i have been looking hard for the Jalan Sri Vijaya shoes.

i have checked out the local shoe makers here, they have a few, but i dint see what i like at all.

Mario Minardi, Andre Valentino, are some local makes i can find in shopping malls, with decent quality, good year welted, but designs are not to my liking, and leather quality nowwhere as near as those british shoes.

i actually bought a pair of Andre valentino shoes just for the fun of it, KL selling for RM599 , over here i paid USD90 in Debenhams.

There is a shoe shop near my hotel and they sell the COMPLETE RANGE OF BURGOL AND SAPHIR WAXES!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought Burgol in bordeaux and Saphir Medaille d'or in navy. Bordeaux gives black shoes extra depth and navy gives nuance to antiquing efforts.

Does the shop carry any decent shoes?

Didn't see anything interesting, some Loakes at uncompetitive prices, but I wasn't interested in the shoes.

It's the small things that matter! They sell Falken socks. A wool/cotton pair was going for 10 Euros.

Not sure if you will be able to buy the shoes in Indonesia as all the components are imported duty free and the company is obliged to re-export them. If they are keen on mail order business it might be one way for us to get our hands on it without going to Japan
