AE's are definitely a good buy. If you're in the US can also enquire on seconds (factory rejects) and save some $$.
Ed et al...reasonable products but at that price they don't look that attractive. Meermin, AEs are cheaper, top up a couple hundred RM can go for C&Js. Only downside is you need to make a good guess on the size before buying online. |

QUOTE(yonggoh @ May 2 2013, 11:42 AM) yea man... i have C&J Tetbury (last 348) on order... I just tembak on the sizing based on what little research with this regards online (which just made things more confusing) 348 can be a tricky last. I size down by one full size compared with typical US size (UK8 vs US9). It's a narrow elongated last that may not suit majority of Asian feet but I find it fits me fine, in fact one of the best fitting pair in my rotation. |

QUOTE(mradult @ May 2 2013, 01:34 PM) Agree that it's a fine pair of shoes for starters. When I started buying 'real' shoes I actually bought on the bay, sometimes used (gross to some people, I know, but saves me the pain of breaking them in). |

If you guys are looking for sleek pointed shoes by all means go for those Italian sounding brands you see at departmental stores. These are most likely to have their soles glued on causing a shorter lifespan. I would recommend Goodyear welter shoes for durability. Close to home someone has mentioned before, kulitkraf does offer these products. Else Ed Et Al in SG also makes fines GYW shoes.

Brogue does not equal wingtips. Wiki the word if you want to know the difference.

QUOTE(ask_dino @ May 28 2013, 11:01 AM) Does this Goodyear Welted shoes suitable to be use in uneven surface i.e. gravel, tarmac and such. Goodyear welted shoes can take any surface, it's the type of sole you want to consider. If it's leather, you risk wearing out the soles faster. Rubber soles, other than lacking on the aesthetic side, are very practical for the roads and weather in Malaysia.Because I need to walk from parking area to my office (about 1km) and the condition of the road is a mix of abovementioned surface. If not then should I get rubber instead? Loake Buckingham user here |

Well that really limits where you can wear your shoes, doesn't it? Why not get it topied, i.e. stick a piece of rubber on the sole? You can get it done at any decent cobbler.

Nike air tech with leather uppers, they look so wrong. Like wearing a suit with tennis shoes.

I'd go for AE over Alden's as their last shapes are sleeker whereas most Alden's look clunky to me. If you can top up a bit go for C&J English made shoes, workmanship and quality of leathers is better.
Sell off one of your timepieces, easily can go super high end on shoes |

It's possible to stretch a shoe but to tighten it, I don't think so. I guess other than returning them, you can use heel inserts or just wear thicker socks.

^^Nothing wrong with suede but the shoe tip looks different than the rest of the upper. Not sure if it's supposed to look like that.
