I have a dark brown leather shoes. Planning to get brush, shoe polish, and maybe water repellent. Basic shoe care will do. Would you guys please suggest:
1. Brush (applicator brush or cleaning brush or both?)
2. Cream or polish?
3. Cleaning agent (previously read something like ivory cream or what)
4. Any others?

Woly is not a must, but I want something decent and affordable, regardless of brand. Previously I read here, seems that Woly is quite OK for affordable price (which I've seen some of them in Plal). The thing with Plal, their staffs seems to be..cocky? Not helpful at all.
*
May I know who was the cocky staff? Sorry to hear about your bad experience..

I love the old man at plal.. he is really helpful when I was there, making the whole shoe shopping experience great! You can see he has passion for handmade shoes

The young guy is alright but helpful when you needed to try on shoes, the only 1 that I dislike is the lady unsure.gif

I want to know too...the old man is very very helpful. I know him since their days in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Ignore the lady, she's just the cashier there.

Not sure about the young guy, never served by him before so cant comment.

+1

The old man is nice. I think his name is Faizal. The lady is...not nice.
*
Woah what a loyal person to stay with plal for such a long time plus his passion for shoes.. I like how he welcomes you and stares at your shoes admiring the details lol.. those days i was still using corrected grain Kenneth coles..

Thank God for this thread and a friend of mine who loves English made shoes.. now he is encouraging me to get meermins from Spain..

I guess everyone has different personalities, at least the lady is doing her job tongue.gif

So you also have the Cornwall too huh. How long have you had it?

I've been using Starwax, is this the best shine it can offer? Its dirt cheap, RM 5 for a small tin. Not sure if its good for the leather but it came recommended from reading this thread. Saphir would cost how much? Last I read Plal doesn't have anymore right?

Why is a plastic shoe tree in such a beautiful shoes rclxub.gif

Get some wooden one bro! You won't regret that decision hehe thumbup.gif

No doubt its the tarmac and to a lesser extent pavements next to roads. Carpets and tiles and even smooth cement floors won't do this to the soles I'd think!

Don't you guys feel uneasy buying shoes online? What if it doesn't fit? Plus sometimes the pictures on the websites aren't really representative of the real thing... Especially the colour.

BTW I got the loake shoe trees from Plal. RM 169. Loakes website says its cedar but the invoice from Plal states its rosewood. I tried googling and SF says its probably not cedar. Anyway they also had shoe trees from Woly at RM 65. That's beech wood.
*
Maybe they have 2 versions of it?

Did you ask plal if it's cedar?

Either way it's still better than a plastic shoe tree, since a shoe tree's purpose is to maintain it's shape and adsorb moistures..

Now your shoes might last a life time rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Don't take it to seriously and just enjoy the experience of having a full grain leather shoe

Any love for suede chukka?

I'm contemplating for a Church's Ryder III but having second thought considering how delicate suede is, especially if it's carry RM1000++ pricetag.

Eventhough I do take care of my shoes but I don't pampered them. So is it wise to blow RM1000++ on a high end suede footwear for casual roundabouts in KL?
*
Full of <3, They appeared in James Bond IINM!

I guess Suede is much easier to take care compared to full grain leathers?

Just a waterproof coating spray and the suede eraser for removing marks biggrin.gif

I thought it was the other way round? No?...the reason I'm not particularly fond of suede because of its delicate factor..which is why I'm sticking to smooth leather..

I don't know for sure...my experience with suede is fairly limited...I only have one suede shoes, an adidas campus..since it's a sneaker I don't really concern about the suede condition...

Used to own a clarks desert boot and waterproofed it...kinda destroy the upper tho...it somewhat "darken" the suede which I don't like and ended up gave it to my cousins..plus I hate the fitting...

But having watched james bond rockin it in quantum of solace, it kinda grow on me....
*
Haha Uhmmm I have a driving moc made from suede been using it 3 times a week, mostly for weekends, weekdays after work use for an hour or so.. still looks like new after 4-5months of use..

My friend has a captoe C&J made from suede as well.. light brown like sand.. Some wear at the stress points but still looks great!

I love smooth leathers as well Lol due to patina and how it ages biggrin.gif

1. Pommadier re-colours better.
2. Pommadier also conditions a bit (for those who don't have a dedicated conditioner)
3. Pommadier only gives a lustre, wax a shine. I like a shine on the toe and a lustre on the rest. This pic illustrates what I mean.

Lovely! I've emailed them. Hope they still make the OLG 1010 Brogues.

Oh, I was wondering, what's recommended for caring/shine black and tan leather shoes?

I currently have a Sketcher's Authentic boat shoe w/ all-round cow-hide shoelace and tan leather upper. It's held well over the 2 years. The "patina" is really nice. But the toe-end started to be a little too dry. Applied some oil-based cleaner but it won't last and I've no idea what kind of shoe conditioner/shine to buy for it. Boat-shoes have a rather soft leather upper so I have no idea really. It'd be good to have a conditioner/shine that caters for both black leather brogues and this.

Somehow the 2nd picture doesn't really show the true color of the shoes haha did you add a filter to it? tongue.gif
When you say dry does it mean it's cracking? If it is I don't know how recover such damages, if not just add a conditioner to it and it should be fine biggrin.gif

OK I found the Woly suede protector in dark blue (ocean) at Robinson's the gardens. Now the hard part is to spray it on my shoes without letting it touch the brown and white parts. Damn this is hard.
*
tape the parts that you do want to be sprayed on lol then just remove the tape tongue.gif

Haha that's what I thought. But I still managed to screw up a little. I had sellotape over the brown leather side linings on my suede shoes, but the blue dye still leaked through so some parts of this decorative lining is now contaminated with blue. I learned from my mistake so for the right shoe I taped tissue paper over as well and now the right shoe looks great.

Is there a dye remover for leather? Or something I can clean the blue dye with?
*
Oh nooo sad.gif

Hmmm.. I use nail polish removers to remove wax.. I'm not sure if it could remove dyes

Sifu, I am a raw denim on daily basis guy, usually I wear it with my brown loake buckingham but thinking to get another black dress shoe to wear it alternately. My question is does black dress shoe good with denim, captoe or wingtip, brogued or not? Any suggestion?

single or double monk strap? I want a black dress shoe which can be worn with formal occasion as well, is monk strap fit for the job?

actually I don't have confident that I can carry out the monk strap sad.gif but will give it a try during my next visit.
*
Haha ofcourse.. the only occasion a monkstrap would not be proper would be during black tie events..

Single or double, brouges or toe caps it's all up to you (:

I have a double full brouge monkstrap shoe and I love it rclxm9.gif
