Added on May 13, 2010, 1:27 pmAnd after confirming with the fresh grad, 2.5k is on contractual basis, means no EPF. I guess I'm in the wrong field, or .. just gotta be patient.

Hi all, may I know what is the market rate for System Admin with 2-3 years of experience?

Thanks.

2.5k - 4.5k should be within this range. If you end up in a chinaman company most probably it will be below 3k. System admins and easy to get a job you might wanna try hp.

Guess it depends on our luck too and which company we work in... We need to keep trying until we can get job with our desired figure.

That's the spirit bro, joined in this forum discussion more. It's through this forum reading and browsing through that let me know which company is paying well, thus i've submited my resume to them and awaits for the call. It bear FRUIT!

think so..so if i got chance,i will try get experience from oversea 1st after i graduate(i studying in australia) then only back malaysia for higher chance of salary
*
Well if you're gonna start in aussie i'll recon you to be there longer. Cause the working environment in Malaysia and Australia is totally different. My Australia counterpart in my ex-company they are always back on time but in my ex-company, we are still working until late night. Somtimes up till 12am. It's totally different culture there. But in Malaysia it is really a better training ground compared to Aussie.

but no matter what i also need to back malaysia,so is no harm to get some experience before going back smile.gif

I thought if you study 2 years in Aussie then you would be entitle to work there or something like that? Correct me if i am wrong. Yea man, it is not that easy to work in Aussie, the point system sometimes favored ppl in a certain skillful workers only. Anyway is plumber and carpenters are still needed in Australia? haha

nope. i think if u want to work here, u need at least working visa, temporary visa that let you work full time or PR..
they will first check whether your job or the course you took is in high demand or not and any company will hire you then only can let you apply for visa..plumber and carpenters? duno and not really care tongue.gif
but i still prefer my home country so i hope i can get experience at oversea first then only back to home country

in this case you might want to stay there for a couple of years coz i knew few friends of mine right after their study in melb and sydney, they did not come back instead continue working there. its been a couple of years already.

In Malaysia, salary about

1.5- 2.7k is basic normal..
2.8k-5K just average good only..
If can get 6K -10k++ salary consider extra good/luxury abit.

My fren work as MAS pilot getting about RM20K mthly...
Another fren of mine as work as pilot with UAE get about USD18K monthly....
My salary?
Tech support work  - RM5k mthly
Stock div - RM 1k mthly

Stock profit - uncertain.. dpd.. sumtimes even higher than my mthly salary..
So those earn less  salary, can try safe money and learn to invest to make ur money grow faster.
*
yo bro, what stock available? would it be safe to invest on it? I'm think of some investment as well at the moment.

Its depends on ur investment plan and holding power.
For newcomer, its better to invest in strong defensive with div counters.
Better spend some time to understand all the types of stock available and learn from experienced investors or stock brokers.
Once u have knowledge then only go invest. You need to get real life trading experience.... u cant just learn from book or stock games...

Every mth, more than 50% of my salary will go into stocks.. the more units i buy, the more div i get.
If the share price goes up, more profits.
So far i've invest for abt 5 yrs+ and the returns is very good... more the 400% from my capitals.

If i put FD.. each year about 4%... 5 yrs.. 20% returns only..
so investment is a very good way to grow ur $$.
*
ok bro, thanks alot for the advice, will start looking into it as well.

Working as sales engineer

Public bank : rm2,800 + mileage claim
EM Systems S/B : Rm2,300 + 1k allowance(not fix)
Dp Star : rm2,400 + 1k allowance (not fix)
Delcol : rm2,500 + 1k allowance (fixed)
From my past experience working in sales line....i can say that the salary is quite f***ed up even though u not fresh anymore. There still some other company offering me rm2k to rm2.2k

p/s : most of the employer asked me "dont u think ur basic quite high?"
*
tell them 2 - 2.2k for normal sales rep la. i am a sales engineer. lol. anyway sales line is to be expected due to the fact that you guys are getting a very high comm + incentive.

Even better bro~ then continue with them and ask your boss can have higher salary or not for your next appraisal. you can also choose to leave after 3 years because senior exec positions are for those with 3 years experience and above haha. But as for a start don't worry so much on the salary you are getting what i used to get.

*
for diploma the last heard starting salary was 1.5k - 1.8k not more. Btw why not taking your degree? Reason so is i have few colleagues who only have diploma and due to the fact they do not have a degree the company will intend to use this factor to:
1) not promote you
2) press you on your salary

P/S: They are extra hardworking, extra knowledgeable compared to other staff but yet the company treated them unfairly.

5 years + and had already became an assitant manager. why changing? ill suggest you to continue bro. bright future lies ahead. if in the 5 years tenure you are still an exec then you might opt to leave but since your management team had already spotted your capability just continue on, you never know when a manager leave that is our chance, and you are definately having a higher chance climbing the corporate ladder compare to others. Well unless you are looking for different challenges.

Anyway, pay aside, need advice should I take up this role as team lead (probably with low pay) or move on to other companies (with better pay)?

Thanks.

bro just ask for it !!! tongue.gif you will be surprise, some employer though your asking for 4k they might give you 5k. i've get to know a few when i got interviewed and got the offer letter previously. Was so surprise that there is indeed company which is willing to pay more than what you are expecting.

Those company have a range. So if you ask lower than that, they will revise to match up with their company's range. That usually happy to big co/ MNC co. They don't want you later found out the same staff you getting RM1-2k lower than them... smile.gif
*
Yup, that is why always ASKING for something which is a must for you, not to mark up or anything. No point doing so, if you are so lucky to fall into a higher range of salary group you will rip the benefit.

I always believe in this probability. If you think you are asking too much, lets brake this down:
33.3% - Accepted with the expected Salary, 33.3% Being rejected for certain reason, 33.3% Negotiation. Thus i will stick to something expected rather than trying to adjust myself with what others is getting.

I've sent her to training, seminar, expo and she enjoy the exposure. SInce the company is small, normally i'll approved the event that she proposed. If she is not happy with the offer or company and want to jump, no choice but let go. But, I have to say a fresh graduate can't demand so much until you show your performance and working attitude.

Added on June 30, 2010, 11:17 pm
Haha...actually not I demand for high grade for my staff. But, you will choose candidate with CGPA 3.65 or candidate with CGPA 3.25 if both also accept your RM1700 as basic salary? I think most ppl have the same answer, right?
*
Good pour more effort, spend more time, give more training. after one year then what? she leaving? dont you think its a waste?

RM2000 basic for a fresh graduate consider underpaid? If this basic is net pay then consider is underpaid, but I still offer allowance (RM350 allowance), petrol claim (limit to RM500/month) and commission (0.4% on sales), she follow up current sales value about RM100K / month, total pay is about RM2000 + RM350 allowance + RM400 commission = RM2750/month. But,she only start to entitle for the commission after her 6 month probation, so now she already entitled for this commission. I think this package for a fresh graduate is acceptable. I still remember when I start my sales career with this company, I don't have existing customer account and start to build from ZERO la...
*
If it is sales even worst.... i got 1 whole lot of list with higher salary, transportation allowance + mileage claim, phone reimbursement, toll parking, lotta trainings provided. Basic + claim already about RM4k with good sales it would be so much more... RM2750 -___- i'm not a sales guy but my 1st job as a technical support i am already receiving 3k+...

to be honest as an employer all the efforts, training, and time spent to train her is so damn important. you get good result peeps when they know the market they jump ship you lose everything. It is either you get someone who would have a future of longer stay or you pay accordingly.
