Hi, am i over paid, under paid or average?

Job Title : Network Engineer
Job Desciption : Related to Network
Company : US MNC
Industry : telco
Tenure : permanent
Experience before joining : 3 and half years and almost 4 years
salary : RM 4000 + RM1000 transport allowance.
My senior said I am underpaid. What do u think ? Kindly comment on this.

when you say Telco field, is it more towards IP networking (router and switches) or 2G 3G Wimax kind of networking?

Lets dont take allowance into consideration.. With almost 4 years experience in telco field, RM4k basic only slightly underpay..
The 1k allowance definately help a lot wink.gif

even a 10k may only be good for just nice life style living...

Some might just maintain lifestyle, being frugal and budget spending... The extra will go into investment. Some practise delay gratification.

To some, its not about increasing lifestyle, but more of being financial secured and financial independent.. Read "Millionaire Nextdoor" and you will find out millionaires just live normally like us nod.gif

if you say do sales/insurance, then yes

but if u said makan gaji through permanent position(not contract), then impossible unless they are manager ...

8-10k still belongs to manager level in malaysia ...
*
that is the traditional thinking of 8-10k is manager pay..
nowadays principal and expert can get that kind of pay as well, higher than their manager..
Its not for ordinary.. of course..

btw.. 28yrs old also can become "manayzer" brows.gif

this is more common in US where there is option to stay in technical line. in Malaysia usually you need to go into management to get more increment after several year doing technical especially in local company.

Yes, you are right.. its more of the western culture... but some MNC in Msia already adopting this for the past few years...
Even local Telecom company had already started this few years ago... (You are a specialist, your talent is rare and you deserve a good pay. But you cannot get good pay bcos you are not manager level.. Not logic)

Yea... wat a waste if they are not retained... how to move to high income nation if still having those traditional hierarchy around..

We need more company to realize highly competence technical expert deserves better remuneration and not necessary only for managerial path..

Although after currency conversion, 5K SGD seems attractive but dont forget dollar to dollar spending in Singapore...
Dollar to dollar comparison wise, a 5 yr working exp engineer can earn up to RM5 or 6k in Msia..
