you are so young yet can earn 2.6k...not bad... if i were you, i would take it. assuming your company give you increment of rm200 per yr, you will need almost 5 yrs to get same salary in the same company. just my 2 cents.

First thing first, how does it impact your future job with regards to how much u earn in the previous? ONLY IF YOU TELL THE NUMBER, then you will be at a disadvantage.

The new job should pay you what the new job salary is, not based on your old job.

In salary negotiation, the first person to throw out a number loses.

Can you explain how you can be the winner by not "throw out the number first"? I always state how much i wanted...and i always get it. Maybe your tactic is better...

It isnt my tactic. Its just something I learnt from dreamer101 so the credit goes to him.

When ppl ask for your current pay, logically thinking, how does this relate to your next job? why should your pay be linked to your previous job? The job should pay you what the job pays, not based on previous salary.

When asked, politely decline saying it is confidential information.

@CMK96
When you throw out a number first, you lose the leverage to argue for higher salary but the hiring manager can argue to offer you lower from what you asked.

@chienta
What industry are you in that after 5 years of working exp you didnt even touch RM3K? Do you have tertiary education? Btw, when they ask your expected salary, YOU DO NOT counter them by asking how much are they willing to pay. Instead just refuse to divulge such information.
Note: No doubt you may lose some job opportunities by doing so as refusal to reveal the current / previous salary could be viewed negatively by the HR / hiring manager.

I don't know what industry you are in. But so far i get what i asked for. Cause i know my industry pay scale. Important is to know how much you are worth first. Asking for 10-15% increase is not hard. Maybe you expect much higher than that. Asking too high would turn off their desire all together. If you let them throw the number first...which is below your expectation. what would you do?

In the real world out there... applicants are more than vacancy available.

Depending on ur current position. Asking 10-15% increment for RM3k pay is just sad. You move just for a small increment. Asking 10-15% for RM10k salary could be different.

I believe in moving only when its 25% and above (based on my current pay scale).

Then can mark up until 40% and let them bargain until 25%...end result is the same...haha. I still don't see any disadvantage of "who" voice out the number first....it depends on "how" you voice it out...Good luck!

Industry : Pharmaceutical
Tenure : Permanent

Basic on joining : RM1.8
Current basic : RM2K (after confirm)
Education level : Degree
Benefits : Standard
Working hrs: 8.00am-5.00pm (5days/week).

What do you think?

Freshie in chemist got 2k is normal. I have a friend got 1.8k but work 5.5 days. After you learn the technology behind the product... you will be worth much more. Chemist is about what you know about the industry tech, sourcing,trouble shooting skills and ISO standards.. you wont learn that in degree or master...
