QUOTE(yvanser @ Jun 30 2010, 10:42 AM)
I think it's reasonable that an overseas graduate demand more, even RM2500 is a bit less, they should be paid around the range of RM3000-RM4000 depends on location. Please bear in mind that those who graduated from overseas have certain qualities that local graduates don't have, you can't hire someone ONLY based on their results. For example an overseas graduate need to stay far from his family, be independent, interact with people with totally different background, settle most of the stuff by himself (find a place to stay, pay electrical bills, cook by himself... etc), and some of them even work as cleaners in restaurants during summer holiday. These experience might not be significant, but certainly will develope the capabilities of someone in terms of handling problems and difficulties... Of course my statements are exclude those who are super rich and their parents flew to see them 5 times a year and settle everything for them.

And a typical chinaman company problem: Always press down someone's salary. I told my boss last time that money maybe is not everything, but it CERTAINLY will motivate the employees, the more you pay, the more the employees feel appreciated (tell me if I'm wrong!), don't expect to pay a price of a kancil and hope to drive it like a ferrari... you pay the price of a kancil, you will get a kancil (even if you boost the engine you will need to add more money). Always keep that in mind.

If you are the boss and you have a budget for your employees' salary, my advise to you is to hire less people and increase their salary, rather than hire a bunch of people and everyone getting very little pay.
*
hehe. overseas student mostly sponsored by gov or companies. which meant they pay absolutely almost nothing. some of these gov sponsored students are able to buy 6k gaming rig. i admit that not all of them are rich. but they're sponsored.

about urs statement that they need to (find a place to stay, pay electrical bills, cook by himself... etc, work as cleaners in restaurants during summer holiday). this is normal not only for overseas students. but also for some local students. local students have to works to pay all this while overseas stdents only work for extra cash. overseas also doesn't mean that they can work. i've work in multinational societies. and believe me. the institution only plays 30% role in building character. other 70% depends on urself. i've seen 2 of my engineer come from same institution. one work very well. the other is lame.

about typical company. well. lets say u're the boss. will u take sum stranger that got certs but u don't know if they can do the job or not to work for u and u pay them high salary? of course not right. people will see the performance 1st. after seen that they're appreciated only then.

it's not that i just wanna blast ur reply. juz that u're totally look down on our local grads.

I've interviewed a few fresh graduates asking for salary above RM2500, reason is they graduated from oversea and some because they are 1st class honour. Honestly, I won't choose those fresh graduate who demand so much. At last, I choose a fresh graduate with CGPA 3.65 and expected salary is RM2000. I offered her RM1700 + allowance + commission and she accepted. After 6 months, she can perform and I increased her salary to RM2000. I think the most importance is you love the job, put effort to perform the best, innovative and learn. Your boss will knew it. If they don't appreciate you, learn everything and jump la.

Might be tempting. Once you are out for a few years, you will have a hard time coming back to O&G. Be patient ... I was in 3K+ for the first few years. And then .. you can be more demanding.

That's the problem with Malaysian. Obviously, these people are spoiling the market. Some say they can hire a fresh graduate with CGPA 3.70 for RM1.8K. Then it smells like those who have lower CGPA will be getting less than that. Salary increase depends on management as well. Some just pretend as they dun see the well performed employee yet they also did not request for further increment. They knew, and they offers you when you wanna jump.

You can make the jump to operator, or bigger service providers. CNA is part and parcel of O&G. Taking a guess, you are with either Yoko, Emerson or Tri... There are a lot of service reps who made the jump to operators after several yrs with the vendors.

Lowest Pay Manager here cry.gif (I think..)

Job Title : Sales Manager
Age : 25
Job Desciption : Hotel Function Hall, Meeting, Seminar, Banqueting..
Years spent in company : 1 month
Company : Local Hotel no chain but under a MNC Group
Industry : Hotelier
Edu : Diploma in Hotel & Tourism Management.
Tenure : permanent (still on probation)
Employment Level : Middle Rank
Experience before joining : 3 years hotelier
salary : RM 3k + standard allowance for mileage / toll / parking
* pls note 90% hotel sales manager title does not entitle to commission* (I'm the 90%)

I dun mean that my current job is underpaid as i have wide ranger of contact in the same field (hotelier from various department including sales) and they are also earning this peanuts, but when we compare our pay or our ranking versus other industry.. sweat.gif really feel like knocking the head on the wall doh.gif

My fren sales exec in our famous FMGC company earn 2.5k basic + comm around 2k + above average claims, and if i check on jobstreet report i found the lowest pay for this kind of title also Rm3.5k, just wondering do we able to live with passion ?

Got passion for the job but no money = ???? haiz... rclxub.gif unsure.gif

hoi! what are you expecting. Same age with me Managerial position already. Ok wert! got good future ahead man. Never got blinded with those who are earning commission. I like to ask this questions to those who always think SALESMAN is the best income group. HOW FAR CAN YOU GO?? HOW STABLE CAN YOU PROVIDE TO THE FAMILY??
*I've seen many salesman which until they reaches mid 30 and 40, then only they realize there is no turning back. It's hard for them to move forward and thus they ended up being a sales person. When you reach a certain age it is just too tough for you to go on hunting and knocking on door begging for someone to sign a contract with you.
