QUOTE Nvidia Halts Development of Core-Logic Sets. Nvidia to Stop Investing into Future Chipsets Nvidia Corp. on Wednesday officially confirmed what was obvious long ago: it would stop development of its chipsets, which were quite popular several years ago. Due to unclear future of Nvidia’s positions on Advanced Micro Devices’ and Intel Corp.’s platforms, the company does not want to continue spending on designing such chips. In addition, the company accused Intel of unfair behavior. “We have said that we will continue to innovate integrated solutions for Intel's FSB architecture. We firmly believe that this market has a long healthy life ahead. But because of Intel's improper claims to customers and the market that we aren't licensed to the new DMI bus and its unfair business tactics, it is effectively impossible for us to market chipsets for future CPUs. So, until we resolve this matter in court next year, we'll postpone further chipset investments,” said Robert Sherbin, a spokesperson for Nvidia, reports PC Magazine. Starting next year Nvidia will not be able to sell chipsets for AMD Opteron microprocessors, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 series processors with or without integrated graphics, next-generation Intel Atom chips code-named Pineview and so on. As a result, it is not surprising that Nvidia is halting its investments into research and development of chipsets. Core-logic business is still very important for Nvidia. In the second quarter of its fiscal 2010, chipset business accounted for 31% of Nvidia’s revenue, up 27% quarter-over-quarter. The lion’s share of Nvidia’s chipsets featuring built-in GeForce graphics core, hence, the company risks losing market share as soon as Intel and AMD release microprocessors with integrated graphics cores. Sauce Demmmm, n here i was hoping to see more competitor chipset for the AMD platform to drive more innovation.. This post has been edited by cloudwan: Oct 9 2009, 12:50 PM |

That means 780a and 980a are the last nVidia SLi chipset.I think ATi fans should be happy, at last nVidia have to surrender also. Dunno future will nVidia re-enable PhysX for ATi chip? |

Yup hoping that future AMD mobo will have SLI+CFx capabilities like Intel P55/X58 mobo have Added on October 9, 2009, 3:00 pm QUOTE(8tvt @ Oct 9 2009, 02:11 PM) i bet amd mobo chip still not expensive.. even though nvidia pull out from the market.. But i wonder about Nvidia strategy, chipset core logic is about 27% worth from their total sales volume..nvidia mau pengsan.. even gpu also very slow.. That's quite a lot for them to just let go like that This post has been edited by cloudwan: Oct 9 2009, 03:00 PM |

QUOTE(8tvt @ Oct 9 2009, 03:12 PM) because of licensing etc and dumb ass marketing.. Miahahaha, that's kinda harsh man.. nvidia no cpu.. amd n intel are moving to place the built-in gpu inside the cpu.. so who need nvidia - LOL - chip doing nothing.. Hopefully Nvidia will open up a bit in their marketing strategy by letting AMD or mobo makers put SLI tech in AMD chipset mobo's.. It's better that way, than to let SLI die in that market segment.. Maybe thru the hydra chip ker.. |
