There is actually a Back to the Future vibe to it. It is actually not too bad a movie.... if Zac Efron isn't Zac Efron... Am I making sense?? PQ is okay (not reference material) and AQ is NOT boomboompow. It is a comedy after all! |

A Few Good Men
Wow, have not seen this for a while, and was taken aback by how many big names are attached to this drama!!? Am a great fan of Rob Reiner (director of The Princess Bride). Also am still very impress with how the cast "brought it" to the movie, making this drama movie VERY engaging and entertaining. Good job Rob!! |

Just Finished watching Red Cliff 1 and 2.
PQ and AQ are good. Point of interest, in the opening scene of Red Cliff 2, the soldiers at Cao Cao camp were opening the gate to the said camp, and what do you see at the bottom of the heavy wooden gate? Modern Car Roda to help with the opening of the gate! Only 1080 resolution can you see this! (If you blink your eyes during the scene, you would miss it!!) Wow, the Chinese were really ahead of their times!! |

QUOTE(fadthil @ Oct 1 2009, 11:40 AM) Is this one good... PQ & AQ? Have never bought any documentaries yet. Planet Earth & Baraka were good I heard... Suggestion, try using blu-tack to remove the said glue.Added on October 1, 2009, 11:46 am My last order have 2 of Fox's title that came with this casing. Actually I'm more irritate with the big black square security patch that's so darn hard to remove than the casing itself... Edit - oops, wrong... not hard to remove the sticker, but removing the glue residue!!?! |

Cutthroat Island (1995) BD
PQ Good AQ Excellent. Impressive really What can I say about this movie that had NOT been said? Well let's start with the bad 1) Geena Davis as a lady Pirate!? What were Carolco Bosses thinking (Director Rene Harlin was married to Geena, so I know what he was THINKING!! 2) Frank Langella is a KAYU bad pirate *Sigh* 3) This movie was SO expensive (they built two life size pirate ships for the movie and the cost was ONLY surpassed by Pirates of the Caribbean) that when it TANKED at the box office, it brought down it's production company Carolco, which also produced hits like Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The Good 1) Matthew Modine did a GREAT damsel in distress 2) The storyline is actually a bit better then the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean! 3) So many things about this movie were copied by the writers of the Pirates of the Caribbean (down to the monkey, SERIOUS)!! So if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and is in the mood for a pirate movie, give this a swill!! Okay, let the criticism come!! |

The Princess Bride (1987)
What a BLAST! I never saw this in the cinema. I first saw this on TV and had since bought it's DVD, which was great. And now, it is available on BD and what a glorious BD it is!! Please note that this is a 1987 movie and the transfer is great. There are a few (VERY few) scene where the characters looked a little soft (after the "baddies" finished climbing the Cliff of Insanity) but overall the transfer is great. No scratches or dust specks. There are grain, but that only adds to the film like quality of the movie. I've read the book after I got the DVD (couple of years ago) and I can tell you that it is a very FAITHFUL adaption of the said book. Each and everyone of the actors did a FANTASTIC job and direction from the director (the great Rob Reiner) and dialogue are SHARP! I highly recommend this movie to lovers of Adventure, Romance and Comedy! Oh just go get it!! This post has been edited by Mov_freak: Oct 4 2009, 12:29 PM |

Superman Returns (2006) Remastered
Perplexing I find myself perplexed. I like this movie alot and supposedly, alot of people do not. Firstly, many people had stated that the movie video transfer is NOT up to par, but it is. I've watched this in the cinema and this BD surpasses that. There are some scenes where Superman looks "fake" but that is because in those scenes he is CGIed (or I perceives him as CGIed, it look like that in the cinema) !! I think that Bryan Singer actually put a lot of effort into making this movie unique and I'm doubly perplex why lover of comics hate this movie as well, seeing how much homage is paid to the media (eg when Superman gently put down Kitty's car, that is the cover to the first Action Comic Superman appeared in). He also anchored the movie as much as he could into the real world (when Superman first attempted to save the plane Lois was on, he tried to grab on the fuselage of the plane but it broke off because it could not take the stress) I like this movie and am bump that Bryan Singer would not get to direct Brandon Routh in another Superman movie *Sigh* |

30 Days of Night (BD)
Wow! What a great movie!! Great story. Fantastic description of vampire (vampire are NOT DROP DEAD GORGEOUS creatures [i.e. Interview with the Vampire, TWILIGHT *Groan*] to "die" for [no pun intended] but vicious BLOOD DRINKING creatures of the night!!) I really have NOTHING negative to say about this movie, great cast, great direction and great sets! PQ and AQ is good on BD. Because this movie takes place mostly at night, the colors look a little "wash" but details are fantastic. Also, most of the sound in mainly subdued, but the little noises and rustles have great direction (eg back, front, sides etc). There are a few big booms thrown in!! Interesting to see Ben Foster (he plays Archangel in X-Men 3 also am looking forward to Pandorum which is being marketed as Horror in Space [like the original Alien] where he plays the lead) in this playing a REALLY weird character. Ending is a little unpredictable and for the romantics out there, please make sure there are tissues handy. As a horror movie, I give this a 4/5 stars Nuff said |

Watchmen Director's Cut (BD, 2009)
This is one of my ALL time favourite Graphic Novel. When I first read this (1991) I was like OMG, superheroes were dropping like flies. It was NEVER done. And the theme is so... adult (rape, murder, MASSACRE!!) I mean, who does that in a comic book!! (Alan Moore does) When I first caught wiff of this movie, I was both ecstatic and afraid. Ecstatic because Zack Snyder is directing it (I'm mean this guy brought Frank Miller's 300 alive, which both made me giddy with pleasure and horror [made killing so "beautiful"]) and afraid because of my love for the original material. I watched in the cinema (Pavillion, THX cinema, the first day it was shown) and when the Comedian was thrown out of his apartment window, I was like, WOW, it is just like the comic book! Every single thing that was memorable about the comic book was on screen. I was puzzle by why Dr Manhattan's private bit was blurred and when I watched in again on BD, it DAWNED on me it was because of the cencorship board!! And when I watched the last frame of the movie, still GIDDY from the experience, I heard something that cause me alarm!!?! A patron of the cinema behind me said, "Tak tahu apa benda dia buat!!"! It hit me, not many people in Malaysia would understand the full extend of the movie. It is NOT their faulty that they don't know much about American History in the 1960 - 1980s. Most of them were either a baby or were not even born yet... A cold chill swept through me... will this masterpiece bomb at the box office.... And indeed it did not do as well as it's director and producers had hoped for especially with all it's legal problems it had faced! The PQ and AQ of the movie is FANTASTIC! All the painful detail Zack Snyder took to recreate the comic world is very apparent (rigth down to Mr Manhattan's pee pee I don't really know how to recommend this movie, because of it's weight! (i.e. the above mention history knowledge) It is a masterpiece nevertheless! My two sens worth. |

QUOTE(robertngo @ Oct 6 2009, 07:06 PM) After rereading my post, I can understand how some people might think Dr Mahattan's private bit is what I meant by "details"!What I mean by details goes way beyond that, the way sets were design, costumes, the music (I especially love, The Sound Of Silence by Simon And Garfunkel and Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen) the CGI effect, all GEARED towards bring the graphic novel to live. And that my friend Mr. Zack Synder achieved. It might not necessary be what people want to see, but his brought it to live anyways. |

Resident Evil (2002) BD
PQ and AQ 5.1 Dolby TrueHD is Great! I think I watched this after playing residetn Evil 0. This is my favorite Resident Evil movie. I love the way they introduce the walking dead (spooky), bloody Dobermans, the Red Queen (wasn't a character in the game) and also the laser cutter (it slices, it dices). The Bangalow, the underground labs and also the tactical team were well done. Also love Milla Jovovich clothing (thank you costume designer Richard Bridgland for that). It is now difficult to watch Eric Mabius as Matt after his Ugly Betty's role... tongue.gif Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) BD I think the PQ of the first one is a hairline better then this. Also interesting that they put PCM surround instead of Dolby TrueHD or DTS Master Audio???? Originally, I like the third on better then this one. Milla Jovovich really kicked ass in this one. Also like the walking dead better here (more of them). Broader landscape then the first movie and has spectacular stunts. I know I'm going to be criticize for this but cannot say I crazy about Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (a little plasticy....). The Lickers are better managed in this movie as well. Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) BD After rewatching all the Resident Evil together, I was surprise to discover that I like this the least now, although it is the most cinematographic one. Some shots of Milla Jovovich was a little "unreal" (I don't think it issue to DNR, because my DVD copy show the same issue). They must have "photoshop" her to make her face a tad too smooth (younger??). Other shot she looked natural..... Also interesting that this is the only Resident Evil that is shot in bright daylight. The crows from hell was a nice touch and would have like to know what happened to the Angie Ashford character. Not sure why Ali Larter is in this one (not a very big role) and Oded Fehr makes a poor love interest for all the gals (except for Ashanti character). The idea of a domesticated zombie was interesting (Fido anyone?) |

*Ahem*
An American Werewolf in London (1981) Just to prove how "OLD" I'm, going to review another oldie but golden. Got this on BD recently, and I have to say, it is an improvement over the Region 1 DVD I have. Picture quality MAJOR improvement, will leave that for later. For the uninitiated, this is THE werewolf movie. Rick Baker (makeup artist) wowed the movie industry with this one. For people who loves Dragged Me To Hell (old skool) please take note. This is THE horror/comedy movie for me (IMO, please, no machine guns, they are so violent and messy!! Those who love more adult theme, there are somethings for you as well (not much, a little bit) This movie is about 2 young American kids (guys) who are backpacking in the English country side, and had a chance encounter with a vicious furry creature. One was killed and the other was rescued (the Americans). The one who is rescued was sent to a London hospital, where he meets up with a "overly friendly" English nurse. As time progresses, full moon is around the corner... Going back to the picture quality, having got the dvd version, the smudge on David's face (on the DVD) were CLEARLY claw marks on the BD (kudos, Mr Rick Baker). Grain haters take note, THERE is grain, but I think it adds to the feel of the movie DTS Master Lossless 5.1 has good directional sounds (when the two American kids were in the English country side, at night, with the full moon), it was clear a "thing" was circling around them, hurdling them to where it wants them to be. I remember it being a little controversial when it first came out (e.g. too adult, too funny, too horrifying??) and it along with Evil Dead 3 coin the phrase Horror comedy! My two sens worth!
