robinlim,

Have u verified the PQ of the 2 HK movies yet? Police Story and Once Upon a Time in China?
*
I didn't buy the Police Story
All I have is the 720p mkv copy
It looks bad from the 720p version
Anyway I'll not comment further as the quality has been compromised

As for Once Upon a Time in China, I'm yet to receive
It's almost 2 weeks since it's shipped doh.gif

I know by unwrapping the items will avoid ketam suspicion

if unwrap means = used copy laugh.gif

Finally the good news appeared!! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

Please note that the price of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Two-Disc Special Edition) [Blu-ray] has decreased from $27.99 to $24.99 since you placed it in your Shopping Cart. Items in your cart will always reflect the most recent price displayed on their product detail pages.

Hopefully before the official release date the price will be further decreased biggrin.gif

Have to wait for HK release sad.gif

The funniest part of this 'Shaolin Soccer' will be the 'Shaolin Night Singing Session'

I want the Walmart one... but that seems impossible right? ...unless you know someone living in US who stays near Walmart outlet and get it for you. Paramount really messed-up wif their marketing on this one lar. Thousands of Transformers fans & Transformers 2 movie fans around the world are going to be disappointed over this issue.. sad.gif

The IMAX switching aspect ratio may not really be the major factor to be disappointed over (maybe only us, the HT & moviephiles), but I'm sure the extra minute jungle fight scene most surely does!

Bro, pls refer to my post of #971 biggrin.gif

It's really hard to imagine that it took 2 weeks to reach me
worse still it's from Hong Kong which is not far from us doh.gif
nowadays even stuff ordered from Amazon US takes shorter time to reach me (~10 days)

will take a quick review on 'Once Upon A Time In China' later tonight to see whether the PQ is really that bad

P/s: Ronnie, when u want me to send ur thing to u? brows.gif

I did a 20 minutes of fast review for 'Once Upon A Time In China' late yesterday night
One statement that is being circulated in the net about the PQ that I'd like to correct is
'This is definitely not a DVD upscaled version'

Movie:4.5/5
The storyline is the best among the OUATIC series. The fighting scenes are awesome and enjoying, eventhough not as good as OUATIC 2 (where the fighting scenes are designed and choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping, who choreographed the action scenes in Matrix). This in fact is one of the best movies directed by Tsui Hark which won him numerous awards including Best Director. Because of this movie, Hong Kong movie industry revived the martial art craze and started to produce tons of martial art movies. It's also the turning point for Jet Lee to become a renown international action superstar.

PQ: 2/5
This is the most disappointing part. Like I said, this is definitely not a DVD upscaled version. Fortune Star had done their part to make it a HD version. But the fact is it is a bad transfer, though not as bad as Tomb Raider. I don't know whether they do not have the technology or just being lazy to do a proper transfer, or the film stock itself is too bad in condition for restoration. It's very obvious DNR is heavily applied throughout the film, too heavy till you can see the colors and the shape of objects are distorted. For grain hater, you can hardly see any grain in the film, though you might still get to see some grainy effect in fast action scenes. The people face is waxed, but the effect is not natural. It looks like all those people are putting up a heavy make up.

AQ: 3.5/5
The Cantonese Track is in Dolby TrueHD 7.1. I don't have a 7.1 set-up, but even running at 5.1 the effect of the movie is considered good. The bass is not the biling balang type, but you still can feel the LFE on the punching scenes. The surround effect is also good, as you can hear the whistling sound of the ships coming from surround speakers.

I don't have the Remastered DVD version to do the comparison, but only the cheap speedo ayam version which is far worse. Overall it is still a good movie with a great in-depth storyline. The weakest link still lies on the PQ. If you don't mind the PQ, it's still worth for collection. Now I will wait for the release of 'Once Upon A Time In China 2' to see whether Fortune Star will make any improvement on PQ.

Feel "funny" to know that UK release Red Cliff again but this time is Internation version.  doh.gif

Red Cliff [Blu-ray] [2008]

user posted image

I thought UK version of Red Cliff is region free already?  Why need international version?  What is more UK version got 293 mins (due to include Red Cliff 1 & 2) and this international version only 148 mins (I think only Red Cliff I included) yet the selling price in Amazon UK is same. shakehead.gif

The International version is cut version so beware when choose to purchase UK version of Red Cliff.  wink.gif
*
The International version is for those 'guai lows' who don't know about the tits and bits of 'Romance of the 3 Kingdoms'
as well as the brotherhood thingy which is very common in ancient China
So they don't have to go through the in-depth details
just sit down and enjoy the battle scenes biggrin.gif

Please note that the price of Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player, Black has decreased from $144.85 to $122.33 since you placed it in your Shopping Cart.

If $122.33+shipping less than $140, ie <RM500
