Hello all, I was wondering what are the things or points take a writer got to take note of it before writing a book? Such as language, the book's theme, book title, the number of words in a book and etc. Or anyone have something to share? Another thing is, what are the avenues for publishing a book? If a writer has completed a book, does he/she need to take out his/her money to publish the book?

Wow, thanks breaker84 for looking up on me. I dare not dream of publishing my book. I am just an undergraduate and I think I have got passion in writing. I am planning ahead perhaps this might be my long-term goal to be achieved. I am interested on Motivational Books. Books that can motivate young teenagers into seeking success and being discipline in life. smile.gif

I haven't publish a book before so I can't say much, but some tips I would give you are :

1. Always have an outline based on the book you intend to write. Once you have a solid outline of it, do a number of drafts for each chapter (hypothetical) . Have friends or family members help you to scan the draft for errors and correct them.

2. Since you are writing a motivational book, please provide some sources to prove the point that you are trying to make. Cite plenty of resources and even use your own life experience as material for your book.

3. NEVER PLAGARISE!! Seriously, you shouldn't even publish a book if you plagarise. Cite all your resources from where they were and give credit to author of said books.

4. Never write the motivational book in a I-know-it-all way. Yes, you have plenty of experience but don't act high and mighty about it, since that would just put readers away.

rclxms.gif Thank you very much for the wonderful tips I would say. After figuring out for 2 weeks plus, I think it is never easy even to plan an outline. I used 2 weeks plus and I have changed again and again. Now ended up, I am not happy with the 20% of the outline. Perhaps, I would need to learn more before even planning to write a book.

You have got your points there. I appreciate it. Perhaps now I should focus on something else first which is:
What the skills that I need to be equipped with before writing a book. For example, Wonderful English, Correct Punctuation, APA Citation style or others citation format. Please share.

Any advice would be welcome.

Given today's technology, you could publish your own e-books and market them on the Internet. thumbup.gif

rclxms.gif Wow, you are actually writing halfway already? Mind sharing what is the book about? Or at least in which field?
You should share with us where you are done.
I'm sorry that I don't know about the cost of publishing and where to print. Anyone can share?

Yup, you have got your point. However, I have another point of view. I think I prefer to publish it to hard copy that is tangible. My personal point of view though. tongue.gif

Hope it is not too much a cold blanket but your first book might not be successful cos

U dont have a passion yet!

A successful writer usually have TOO MUCH in their mind and a book is merely 10% of their ideas in their mind. If you have only 10% of the idea and trying to reach the other 90%, im afraid there is still a long way to go.

Why would i make such a cold comment? Cos a writer would have started putting on ideas on paper and editing... instead of posting a thread here.

Sorry buddy, but i guess u r on the wrong path. Why dont u just focus on reading for time being?

I love your line about you enjoy writing - GO GET A BLOG as a start. Share it here with us or with me in pm, i promise i will keep it in my Google Reader and i will comment!

regards ~

writers start from nowhere too you know. At one point of their lives, they sat down, thought about how to write a book and wonder about the topic and content and how to publish it.
TS might already have his ideas written but he's just posting a thread here to ask our opinions since this is a forum
