For Pure Direct / Pure Audio, sometimes the AVR can use the LFE channel if you choose the 5.1 audio track (this will depend on your AVR brand). Like when I listen to Michael Buble BD, if I choose the 5.1 audio and use Pure Audio I will get some LFE (but the same as if I turn off Pure Audio).
*
yes broither, have tried pure direct/audio on movies and concerts also too, for my case the sonics is very good too ( have to set the LFE out to SWR & MAIN) but still missing the feel of something ( bottom end smile.gif ) AS i say the LFE is not activated, still rclxub.gif why yammy disable this feature vmad.gif
so denon and onkyo does output LFE on Pure audio. rclxms.gif

Bro, I thought pure direct/audio is for 2 channel listening only minus LFE. If you want LFE, just switch it to stereo. I don't think other brand avr will output LFE when they are in pure direct mode. wink.gif

In my Onkyo, Pure Audio mode can utilise the other channels if your source material is multi channel. So if I enable 5.1 audio I will get some LFE and even surround sounds in Pure Audio mode.

So what's the benefit of Pure Audio mode then? I believe all the EQ, bass management and other audio processing is turned off.

In Pure audio mode, av amp just amplifly the sound from the source player, it is best to use this mode to test CD players..in my opinion.

Its really a set back that Yammy AVR disable LFE on pure direct (yammy term) pure audio ( onkyo & maybe others )
as far as i know Denon does activate LFE,

Yes pure direct is mainly for CD playback ( to maintain the purest audio path like normal Amps) bypassing AVR's DSP, even the display will dim off completely, ( try it out , you really get better separation, depth, ) it is.... a totally another level of listening pleasure whistling.gif

yammy does do pure direct on multichannels too, it will just bypass all processing and output to respective speakers.. not bad tho..
in fact if you use True HD, DTS HD/MA modes you are also using unprocessed modes (as compared to DSP concert. movie theather, Hall ) signals are also bypassed but amplified in a different way, ( its the exact soundfield the recording engineers/directors wanted us to hear)

so if you want to use pure direct mode on yammy (unless yammy engineers rectify it) make sure you go with Floorstand or fullrange speakers for your mains, or otherwise if you use satellites pair it with an additional sub.

those ppl who are not that audiophile fussy, just use stereo, or straight mode, you will be very happy with the sound rclxms.gif

The hefty tax and duty are too much of a burden.

Those driving supercars are filthy rich since the tax is as high as 300%

All the sifus here,

I've RX-V863 .

I've tried to set up my front channels using separate power amp. I've tried a few power amp, and every time after hooking up the power amp, and using the Yamaha auto setup, the result will be front speaker "out of phase" !

I check the manual, and it says: "Speaker polarity is not correct. This message may appear depending on the speakers even when the speakers are connected correctly" mad.gif mad.gif

What's that means huh? I'm sure that I've connected the speakers correctly. So, what's the solution? Yamaha manual says even if connected correctly, the error message might appear rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

What should I do huh? Do I need to do anything if I'm sure I've connected the speakers correctly and ignore the message?

Very confusing message doh.gif doh.gif I've even changed to different front speakers to try out, and the error message is there..

If I don't use the power amp, and use the AV amp speakers output, then it's always ok.

Any sifus here experience this before?

Try swapping the +ve and -ve at the speaker terminals. Do this to only one speaker.

Doing that will solve the problem... but, it's not correct I think... because all the connection I've checked 100 times, and it's 100% correct..

Yes, that's why it says "even when the speakers are connected correctly" in the manual. It should be OK as long as it's correctly in-phase.

Can try to troubleshoot further by using a different interconnect between the AVR and the power amp. Maybe the cables faulty.

mine happen too, re-tighten the biding post, redo few times then ok,

if you are sure that the connections are correct.....
just uncheck (untick) the wiring before doing auto speaker calibration. think its firmware bug. biggrin.gif

are all your plugs to your power amps correct... i mean "live-neutral-earth" thingy??

hi moomoos,

Thanks..

What do u mean "untick" the wiring? In setup menu?

by the way, did you connect to power amp directly? or do you connect through another pre-amp then to power amp ?

Really confuse lah.. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

i am only using the amp feeding 7.1 channels directly

under the auto setup, > setup menu > you have

- distance
- equalising
- wiring << just untick this in the check-box
- Multipoint measure
- level

Added on September 29, 2009, 10:57 pmbefore doing the YPAO, crank up the volume ( i put mine to -20 ) i find it gives a better calibration when volume is higher

the higher you crank up the volume before calibration,
the level of your speakers will be adjusted lower, so during actual usage your normal volume should be about -25 to -35

example only...( ideal balance left right case)

1- AVR vol at -15 b4 YPAO ~~~~ after calibration done L spk level +1, R spk +1, sur R +2 sur L +2

2- AVR vol at -35 b4 YPAO ~~~~ after calibration done L spk level +6, R spk +6, sur R +7 sur L +7

what i mean is if you still want to adjust the speaker level higher manually for (No 2) you cant do much, further more if your adjusted speaker level is at No 2, even your AVR knob vol at -40 to some people at normal listening is considered very loud already.

so the more you crank up volume for YPAO, the louder the burst, more accurate for MIC signal pick up.....

sorry for the lenghty explanation biggrin.gif

Im no sifu but u can check your sub woofer. Reverse it in the speaker manual setup or if your woofer comes with a switch/button to reverse the phase, just do it there and run the test again.

own a Yammy 465 which drive my Wharfedale 9.1, 9.cc and WH210.

cheers...

strange indeed. Your mic should level with your ear or listening height. I use a camera tripod to setup the exact location where I seat.

My 2 cents idea suggest that your woofer would still out of phase hence putting the mic 1ft higher fix it, but that is not your listening position. So, I would suggest to reverse the phase of your sub to or else there could be some freq missing around your Xover freg range.

Just my 2 cents though...

in the report, only front speakers are out of phase. other speakers set are all ok.

but last night, I tried putting the mic to normal position again, it was ok liao...

strange!!

the only thing I change during setup is the volume .... before, I think the before auto setup, my volume was around -20 to -25db . but now I set to -10 db for setup..

but, during setting, I thought regardless of what volume you might have, the system has a standard volume to send out test tone right?

ahhhh, confuse blush.gif blush.gif

Sorry, I would like to ask, where is Yamaha service centre in Klang Valley?
My receiver, can not be on/powered up for quite some time now, thinking to bring it up for repair though.

I hope you guys don't mind me asking about Yamaha speakers.

Anyone using these 2 front speakers NS-50F? Is a display set (both speakers) approx RM900 worth buying? Can give some feedback of the sound quality ?

Thanks.

no need switch on BD or CD,
its Fantastic even the AVR LCD can display the Album folder/song title too biggrin.gif

just another way of "simplicity" listening rclxms.gif

This isnt true!!! 663 nor 606 can challenge the reputable 1909 in any PQ & AQ section. Case Closed.

Wah like this don't know.
But in terms of power I think SC-LX90 is more powerful since Z-11 amplification concept is different.
If im not wrong their power amplification for surround is lower then the power for front speaker all this.
But sound quality,no idea.
Should go to hiway laser ss2 to auditioned SC-LX90 smile.gif
But bro, what do you think between SC-LX90 and Z-11?

Yeah lo.
Im happy if I can own a seperate amp rclxms.gif
Example:NAD T175 & NAD 975 or NAD M15 HD & M25 or SC-LX90 and Denon the combo also rclxms.gif
very expensive. sweat.gif
Im happy if can manage to own a Pioneer SC-LX82 already.
Then slowly upgrade rclxm9.gif

At 1st I was aiming for the Z-7.
But I auditioned before their amplifier.
I think is the 3900 or 1900.
Their sound quite bright.
And last year I auditioned before the SC-LX81 at hiway laser also.
Their sound was very deep and great.
But I have not made my decision that time since economy is going down.
Until then the SC-LX82 annouced liao.
And after some time of hard saving money,I beh tahan liao.
Wanted to get LX-82.
But must try out the LX-81 see whether got much difference or not. nod.gif

I don't find my ex-Yamaha quite bright. The dynamics are definitely there.

May I know what speakers are being hooked up to Yamaha and also the SC-LX81? The reason being that speakers choice would greatly affect the overall SQ.

Having said that LX-82 is in different league unless you take Z-7 to compare wt it. I have not get the chance to audition the Z-7. However, LX-82 is very good. No pun intended to others. I do not like Pioneer due to its harshness and its HF particularly the VSX models. The LX series did change my perception.

But, if you are aiming for LX-82, please do justice to this gem. Buy equally good loudspeakers to match it. IMHO, abt RM15k or more for 5 speakers setup (excluding sub) is the way to go smile.gif

If im not wrong, they are using the B&W 700 series speaker.
The sound are very good and not bright at all.
But since you are quite experience in amplifier, which amp better?
In between the SC-LX82 and Z-7.
But recently What Hifi awards 2009 the LX-82 *sapu* the award while the Z-7 never *sapu* any award also. hmm.gif

WHF sld only be treated as light reading and don't take its awards too seriously, if you get what I mean. Take it as a pinch of salt.

There are tonnes of very good speakers particularly from the North America that did not make it into its mag.

Now, I know why it is not bright. B&W has a warm characteristic. Btw, LX-82 aint going to make the best out of 700 by itself. To truly appreciate B&W 700 series, you need beefy power amp.

How abt the Yamaha? What speakers are being hooked up?

Which amp is better? It's a personal preference. Some ppl like dynamics (which tends to sound a bit bright) while some prefer warm (some ppl termed it as lazy). It's your call. For the record, I am not experienced in amplifier / avr. Still learning since there are loads of new model wt new tech flooding our mart sweat.gif

Ohh..okay..
Mean to say that B&W consume alot of power also.
But for me,B&W maybe more on music.
Especially their 800 big fat speaker drool.gif

Actually I was aiming for the PSB Synchrony One since their bass is awesome thumbup.gif
But the price is AWESOME too.
Thats why I hunt for subwoofer rather than speaker 1st.
But year end already.
Always work until 99 sad.gif
So no time to auditioned any set up by hifi shops.
The last time I went to Hifi shop to auditioned speaker is around 4months ago at A&L sungai wang.
When the Dali arrived.
The beauty piano finish Helicon 400mk2 drool.gif
But too bad Dali are meant for music more.
Anyway do you listen to PSB Synchrony before?

Im a little *sakai* here.
Pai seh.
The last time I auditioned was at Amcorp mall quite long time ago when one of the customer wanted to buy it.
When they use those power amp to amplify it,the sound and especially the bass is shocking.gif KENG!
The woofer already cantik gile....
But saving hard to buy.
Maybe before next year Chinese new year.
And i just own a old sony HTIB and a 46inches V400 only.

Waiting for my new house renovation only.
Then I calculate my budget only I made decision.
But anyway thanks alot for your advice smile.gif

At 1st I was aiming for the Z-7.
But I auditioned before their amplifier.
I think is the 3900 or 1900.
Their sound quite bright.
And last year I auditioned before the SC-LX81 at hiway laser also.
Their sound was very deep and great.
But I have not made my decision that time since economy is going down.
Until then the SC-LX82 annouced liao.
And after some time of hard saving money,I beh tahan liao.
Wanted to get LX-82.
But must try out the LX-81 see whether got much difference or not. nod.gif

currently using 663 with moudauntshort 906i floorstander, champalang kenwood 10" sub-woofer....
I'm looking for side surround speakers & back surround speakers.
becuse living hall not that big, so I need only small compact speakers for both....
planning on wall mount for back surround then side surround using small light speaker stands.

any good suggestion? no budget limit, but not for too high end surround speakers than my avr that not matched....

Actually, he's asking about DD or DTS so the answer should be yes. I don't see why a DVD player connected to the 363/365 via HDMI can't produce DD or DTS.

after reading through the manuals, i found out that 363 and 365 cannot produce sound to the speaker terminals if using bitstream DD/DTS through HDMI. it can only passthrough.

the next higher model, 463, can accept bitstream and decode it as well as accept multi channel LPCM. anyone knows if there's any shop still selling 463? or anyone here wanna sell it at low price?

465 can decode HD audio, so i assume the price should be quite expensive.

Hi guys, is there a way do display the input name & sound codec on the display of the unit? E.g on my RX-V1900, it always shows "Straight/Dolby Digital". I was wondering if there's a way to make it "Blu-ray/Dolby Digital" or "Dvico/DTS".. I guess u know what I'm referring to ;-)

Thx in advance!

I have a four year old Yamaha RX-V457. Yamaha RX-V457
No HDMI (for audio - there is digital optical&coaxial input only)
I am pretty happy with it but I am planning to get a FullHD TV and a BD player as well. Will I be shortchanged on sound without upgrading this avr?

Any advice for me?

Added on 12 Jan 2010
What I mean to ask is, is there anything from the AQ perspective that I would be missing out on? Digital gives me PCM which is already good enough?

Hi,

Was wondering whether anyone can advise me if i get the RX-V465, can i still use my Pioneer HTZ-333DVD HTS speakers (rated at 100W each)? How do one decide on whether the speakers can be re-used? I don't want to buy too high end of receiver and bomb the speakers nor do I want to buy too low end and get too soft a sound.

Anyone can advise?

Most HTiB speakers rated at 4ohm...pls check and I don't think the V465 can drive 4ohm speakers.....however if you don't play at loud volume, maybe it should be ok.

How much a price RX-V465 u can get? I see this model at Harvey Norman with price around RM24XX. Its spec is quiet good for me to get DD 5.1 sound from HTPC & Byond.
BTW I still searching good AVR below RM2k.

Receiver alone or with speakers? I saw it at Harvey Norman for RM3k+ with speakers.. think at RM900 for sub..

On a side note, I was considering gettin this as its the basic unit and most affordable one that meets my requirements. Anyone here using this? Compared this with the Pioneer 819, how does it fare?

people who target MKV are those who want's small size video yet with better than DVD quality and DD/DTS 5.1. if the video file has DTS-HD/DTSTrueHD, people would rather left it untouched as BD M2TS or ISO.

the last time I remember my brother tried out Ironman 1080 mkv vs Original Bluray, those present can't tell a difference. Not trying to create flamewar here but the difference(i am sure there is some) is really hard to notice for normal viewing distance. I guess the same can be said about the sound too.

DD = 448kbps
dts = 640kbps
TrueHD = 2-6Mbps
DTS-MA = 2-6Mbps

if no diff, what is inside those additional data?

Interesting..... esp on audio part.

For visual, probably minimal diff if the mkv is really on 1080p mat. May I know what is the audio setup? avr and speakers. mkv is normally on DD/ DTS while BD is lossless audio. There should be a difference.

Unless you are really really in-sensitive towards sound or have hearing problem, I believe you can hear the different, heck, even my wife can hear the different sweat.gif
To me, BD improvement on sound is larger than the PQ, an excellence bit rate SD DVD upscale using a very good scaler like ABT, Reon or DCDi, can be very closed (like 75%) of BD PQ, but if you are very satisfy with Astro SD quality than no point to even try 720p mkv PQ tongue.gif

listening to it is one thing... one's ear (and eyes) needs to be in-tune with it... unless you're born with it.

i.e.
If a person is listening to HD audio constantly, he/she should be able to tell the difference right away, compared to someone who has not listen or probably listened once or twice because they wouldn't know what to look or hear for. It's not like we can remember and memorise every sound and frequency in a song, right?

and of course, there's the sound equipment and I believe there's some tuning as well, right? besides the speakers...

I recently went to SenQ to hear the difference between a RM3K+ Full Pioneer system and a RM10k Onkyo system with Jamo speakers. Was there a difference? I thought that the RM10K Onkyo system sounded just slightly better. Then of course, he was playing some Kenny G CD (which was prolly bootleg) and the sytems were prolly just plugged in and left there, without proper tuning.

I'm currently waiting to test out the Yamaha 465 to see if how the sound goes. Problem is I want a system for multi-purpose - Movies (with a bit of music) while the other half only wants the system for Music. As I mention before, I thought that there are 2 different kind of system out there... one mainly configured and picked for Music where the sound is full and warm and there's those for Movies (wham bam!).

Dear All,

Anyone uses the Yammy Sound Projector YSP series ? I have around 5K and think this suit me as it has built in receiver and no spaghetti cable running around my living room.

I am a bit skeptical though and due to the design my my living room, the bouncing of sound might not be so efficient.

Please advice.

Thanks.

To be highly effective, you need to have 4 walls for it to beams the sound and reflect from these walls to create a virtual surr ambience.

That is what I am worried about, my living room has sliding glass door and I heard that bouncing the sound off a glass is not that effective...

It all abt termites, they ate the wire insulation causing Neutral and live to shorted....the short only happen sometimes..not permanent, lucky the wireman found the problem..oledi rewiring back sockets from another route. Next step will be calling ppl to kill it...gonna cost a bundle to do it.

Interesting..... esp on audio part.

For visual, probably minimal diff if the mkv is really on 1080p mat. May I know what is the audio setup? avr and speakers. mkv is normally on DD/ DTS while BD is lossless audio. There should be a difference.
*
Yes mkv normally came with DD/DTS5.1. But today mkv already support TrueHD. But a size is to big compare to normal one.

Below is info about TrueHD audio that u can download seperately and mux again with mkv.
I get this from file sharing web. U can see how bigger its size. biggrin.gif

Audio
Complete name : Transformers TrueHD Track English
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Format profile : TrueHD
Bit rate mode : Variable
Channel(s) : 6 channels
Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE
Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz

File size : 4.31 GiB

Pardon my ignorance blush.gif Those mkv that I had in my collection has abt the same size and some at abt 8.4GB per movie. But, still in DD/DTS. I am guessing that the size is related to the 720p / 1080p PQ that I am getting. So, with lossless audio, it should have easily surpassed 8GB. Correct me if I am wrong smile.gif

sorry ... i'm not surebout the V465 specs,

>>in reality it does<< provided your LCD/plasma can handle 1080p

but RX-V3900 does, it up converts or down converts

Yes u correct. That file is audio only. Video size is 12.3GB (1080p) + TrueHD audio 4.31GB = almost 20GB. sweat.gif (Based on Transfomers 2 movie)
Almost size of normal BD already. Hehehe tongue.gif

BTW, u only can play trueHD audio with PowerDVD or Arcsoft Total Media Theater right now. Haali still got a problem.

call this fella, cheap cheap onkyo speakers.

I bought 3 set from him, CODed, working so far, not the best, but I only paid RM 65 / set COD Penang! Now I can see the price increased to RM 100, still CHEAP though.

I hentam 3ohm speakers (HTiB) to my Sony AVR rated for 8 ohm so far OK thumbup.gif
So i guess those speakers should be OK for your Yammy amp..

But, if you got a 665, why go for budget speakers? unless you are saving up for something better.

A 3 ohm speaker presents less of a load on the amplifier, therefore allowing the amplifier to deliver more power than an 8 ohm load. Ohms law states that if you halve the impedance, power will double.

Assuming the amplifier can supply the additional current and the sensitivity of the 8 ohm vs 3 ohm speakers is relatively close, then the amplifier can push more power to the 3 ohm speaker producing a higher sound pressure level than the 8 ohm speaker.

Don't be surprised if a cheap amplifier shuts down when being connected to a 3 ohm load and being pushed really hard.
It really depends on the amp and speakers though. If your amp can already power an 8 ohm speaker to the loudest listening levels you desire, then going to 3 ohms isn't going to buy you much other than a hotter amplifier.

It's ok to mixed around if those speakers have about same characteristic. A friend is using PSB Imagine for front, Focus Audio FCC center and donno what the heck of a surround but sound overall very good even the front staging over powered the rear a bit.

In your case PSB Image is pretty relax and Klipsch RC-52 is a fast type so go figure smile.gif

Before I sold my PSB Alpha, I tried to mix it with my current Klipsch and Alpha clearly out of breath to play catchup with Klipsch laugh.gif

different mix of spks thing is ok within the same tonal characteristisc.... but
think overall better to get same ohms

think will give the amp a hard time if hv 3,4,6,8 ohms

think... many AVR' have setting for 6 & 8 ohms, (as my yammy did)

Hey guys..

So i just found out that my 663's power is 95w per channel at 8ohm.. my speakers are monitor audio br2 rated at 6ohm.. i didn't change the impedance on my 663 to 6ohm.. does this means that i'm under-powering my speakers running at 8ohm? is it still at 95w per channel if i set it to 6ohm?

one more question.. i read the manual online awhile ago and found out that i can bi-amp my speakers with the zone2/presence speakers.. will this give more improvements for my fronts/center?

max power output for 8 ohm would be less. should set to 6 ohm. if u listen to music a lot then biamp might improve ur music but for movies biamp will only reduce power to all ur speakers coz now it's running 7 channel instead of 5.

the manual nor website didn't state that it's 95w at 8ohm or something like that.. currently i'm only on 5.1, so i guess bi-amping is still ok as the 663 is rated at 95w x 7 channels.. that's why i'm still wondering if bi-amping will make any difference or not.. if i could, i'll bi-amp my center for more movie dialog oomph.. i don't listen to music on my HT.. it's strictly for movies.. if i want music, i can listen to them in my car laugh.gif

quite interested in the V365. noted that there's HDMi in/out. just wonder if i connect my dvd player to it using components and media player using HDMI, can i have only 1 cable out from the receiver to my tv using HDMI? meaning that can the receiver divert my component input signal from my dvd player to HDMI out to tv?

thanks

you're basically explaining the purpose of a receiver wink.gif and oh.. with a coax or toslink cable from your dvd player together with the component, you can get dolby digital/dts from your dvd player too!

thanks for the confirmation. i have that idea too but not very sure whether this model can do it or not as it's an entry level model and no hdmi upscaling. so just worried that the hdmi out is for all the hdmi in only.

any idea on the market price? today saw the desa advert, rm1499 including the v365 and 5 pioneer speakers s-ms700. worth it?

quite interested in the V365. noted that there's HDMi in/out. just wonder if i connect my dvd player to it using components and media player using HDMI, can i have only 1 cable out from the receiver to my tv using HDMI? meaning that can the receiver divert my component input signal from my dvd player to HDMI out to tv?

thanks
*
you should download the RX-V365 manual and read it...see the options of HDMI upconversion.

Better take note that RX-V365 has only HDMI video out, no audio out.
Move 1 model up, RX-V465, has HDMI audio/video out.
I got it at RM1600

For future invesment better go for at least RX-V465. RX-V365 is very basic AVR and it don't support video through HDMI and HD audio.

it does support audio, but only switching, not repeater...therefore no audio out from the speaker output terminal.

Hi there everyone. New owner of an RX465 here =D

Very satisfied with it so far but I've got a little problem that I can't seem to figure out how to fix.

Currently, I have the AVR set up with 2 HDMI input cables from my Xbox 360(HDMI 2) and my Astro Byond(HDMI 1) decoder.

When I switch from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1 while astro Byond is on a HD Channel (573, 575, 832, etc.), the signal to the TV seems to go on and off(sound and image sometimes come on for a second before going blank again) for about 10-20 seconds before the image appears (properly) on the TV. I can hear a switching noise from the AVR occurring every few seconds during this period. The problem doesn't occur when the decoder is on an SD channel.

Any idea what's the problem and does anyone have any solutions..?

...btw, the Xbox is on 1080p reso while the Astro decoder is set to 1080i. I've tried changing the reso of the decoder to 720p but it didn't make a difference.

Oh yea, I can also feel electricity currents whenever I touch the AVR while it's on. Is that normal..?

I guess that's HDCP handshake issues... My Pioneer VSX-919 do take a few seconds for the handshake. Actually even switching input on the TV's HDMI port itself will take few seconds too on my Sony TV and theelectic current shock should be from the TV, not the AVR. To solve that, connect and 'earthing' from your RX465 to earthing on your wall plug.

Chinook, I understand the issue you're having with 465 and b.yond.

What I do when I turn to Astro b.yond is switch to non-HD channels first, then when receiver doesn't 'flicker on and off', switch back to the HD channels. Seems to work for me this way.

Technically I know nothing about 'HDCP handshakes'. Actually what does it mean?...

HDCP - High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Handshake means authentication process to identify licensed devices from receiving content. More details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP

Hello everyone,
My current Yamaha RX-V420 has problem in the left surround output.
Is it expensive to send to fix it? Any idea how much will it cost?

most of the HTIB that i've came across have all the power amp module for the speakers AT THE SUB.
so plug everything at the sub. meaning there's no upgrading the sub to another AVR.

some HTIB that has separate amp for the satellite have passive sub meaning there's no amp in the sub. to pair it with an AVR, you need an active sub.

You are right. I open it and found out too many dust.
I simply clean, then it works again.
Perhaps will spend more time cleaning in thoroughly again.

465 should be around 1600, the remaining 900 is enough to buy NSP270 http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av.../ht/nsp270.html

Yes, the Yammy speakers are not the high end one (NS-P380). Even the sub is so so only but okay for beginner like me blush.gif

So, Yammy RX-V465 + NS-P380 = RM2499 should be good deal for starters eh?

HDMI1.4 is the new standard that accepts 3D signals for future 3D BD movies, of course you need a new 3D enabled panel to see 3D la....

And no, all current panels cant play the new 3D codec carried by HDMI1.4...

*
Its about the handshake protocol, and the AVR is switching to get the right resolution. Your X360 is at 1080p and Astro is at 1080i, so it need to switch it internally again.... even my as PS3, X360, WDTV and DVD HDMI set at 1080p, V465 takes a short while to switch between sources. And as it does with HD Astro channel changes.... it has to decipher the signal each time a channel changes...

For the static (i hope its static and NOT electricity for your sake), check your power socket cables and insulation, and the earth on your wall socket..... or is your room carpeted with aircon and its you thats generating the static when u walk across the room?? LOLZ

are you using PS3?
if PS3 fat then you cant have DTS MA show on the AVR if you set bitstream, can only set a Linear PCM, you will get multichannel 5.1 shown in AVR..
if PS3 slim then set it as bitstream...

Hi all sifus,

I'm new here, very thankful if sifu can advise me on 2065 vs 1900, which should be a better investment?
Are they identical in sound quality and tone?
My preference is for music and vocal, warmth and sound-stage imaging is important to me.

Many thanks,

Hi all,

Just bought a 765 and set it up but noticed that the surround back speakers are not playing at all. The receiver detects the speakers but doesn't play at all even when a test tone is played. I've checked the setup and it's configured at 7.1. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong. I am really counting on you guys for some help.

Thanks in advance to all.

Thanks for your reply.

I think it's off but is there anyway to make sure that it is off? I've tried to connect speakers to of surround back pre-out and still no results.

Hi All Masters,

I just got the RX-V465, plugged in with my PS3 (via HDMI), DVD player (ancient - Composite cables) , Astro (old - composite cables). Output = HDMI to LCD.

PS3 = no problem, but both my astro + dvd player i cannot get Video , only audio.

Current solution , i plug the Yellow composite direct to my TV.
Anyone has a setup as mine ? i just need to confirm if it only work this way.

From some reviews regarding the 465 below.

"For one, there is no video upconversion to be found on this product. This means that if you connect composite video, you'll only get the results from the composite video output. Same goes for component video and HDMI. There are also no S-video inputs on the back of the receiver "

Thanks in Advance.

guys i've just got a yammy rx-v465 this week. i have 3 hdmi input - ps3,dvd & xbox. the problem i have is when i watch dvd the decoder keeps turning off every 1 minute and then turns back on again. So what u get is a break in sound every 1 minute. But the ps3 and xbox is fine. I call the installer (desa ht) and they claim that it could be that the hdmi cable for my dvd could be faulty. Any feedback from our sifu's here.? Your help is very much appreciated.

If the HDMI for the DVD is the suspect, you can always swap the HDMI cable from the PS3 or XBox to the DVD player to confirm. If it works fine, then you can basically confirm it's HDMI cable problem.

The Yammy V1900 @ RM3k is indeed a great bargain. I am currently using Denon 3805...not sure the V1900 would be a worthy replacement of the denon3805. Anyone can help here.

both my AVR are Yamaha so I can't comment if it can replace denon/onkyo/HK etc. I will leave it to the expert here but personally I'm happy with Yammy 1900.

don't have to wait till next year. i reckon in 2-3 month the market will be flooded with all those new models supporting HDMI 1.4/3D.
pioneer, yamaha, and onkyo have already updated their lineup with new models that have 3D support.

other than prologic IIz and 3D, i don't think there's major upgrades. but for the pioneer lineup, got features carried down from the elite series into the consumer lineup.

My Pioneer AVR also get hot with moderate volume only. If play really loud, then it's not as hot as the internal cooling fan will cut in..

At RM3K, it is indeed a steal. I had the 1800 for some time. It is indeed a very good av receiver. While it is a bit on bright sounding, the music reproduction was good. Never sounded thin.

Movie being handled with enough details and dynamic. Its bass may not be very punchy but it's good enough to give you the slam when called upon w/o losing control. Then only downside is the not-so-efficient YPAO against Audyssey.

What Blu-Ray player are you using.

If it is a Panasonic, on the Blu Ray Player setup, you have to switch OFF Secondary Audio.

how do i get my 465 to display dts-tru hd/dolby hd whenever it decodes? every time i play blu-ray with dolby/dts hd it only shows pro-logic2. any sifu here can help?

What model of your Blu-Ray player are you using, u need to set it to bitstream rather than PCM, in order for your 465 to decode the signal to HD format.

Set it to bitstream. If you are using PS3 slim, then it is able to bitstream HD audio and those codecs will be displayed at avr. Ori ver PS3 can only do MPCM.

Thats mean your fat PS3 will decode the HD audion from blu-ray and send it to your Yammy 465 as multi channel PCM. Fat PS3 can't bitstream the HD audio..

Just back from Singapore biz trip, 665 is selling at SGD999 (about RM2350) at Harvey Norman...

One of the sales guy offered me a 665 which was used as display unit in an AV fair at SGD850. Damn tempting especially tourist can get 7% tax refund, too bad that unit was in warehouse and I need to get to airport... cry.gif

Err... by the way, is that a good price?

Definitely at least midrange setup to go with this gem. What kind of sound do you prefer? Listen to a lot of music or mainly for movie?

Guys,

At the moment, I'm connecting the DVD component video output to the LCD tv and the DVD stereo audio output (Red-White) to the RXV465.

I'm thinking of connecting the DVD component video to the receiver and then connect the receiver HDMI to the LCD tv HDMI input for video. Shall this work? Which one is much better?

your DVD player dont't have optical or coaxial out?

should be:-

DVDP (component & optical/coaxial(digital out) --> RXV465 --> HDMI --> LCD TV (remember to set the DVDP at audio out using digital/bitstream)

This will give you the optimum usage, or if your DVDP have HDMI out, just use that to connect to the RXV465 and HDMI out to TV

i connect from pc to 663 via hdmi, then from 663 to monitor i using hdmi to dvi..

the problem is when i set resolution to 1440x900 (which is optimum resolution for my monitor), my 663 cannot produce any sound (silent), but if i set resolution to 1920x1080 or i unplug the cable from 663 to monitor the sound is on..

is it normal or my 663 is malfunction?

RM1.5K not much to work with for a 5.1 setup...sub alone can go as much as RM1K.

Try this:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Sear...=Onkyo+Speakers
Many ppl bought it.

But i rather spend on 2nd stuff....there was many good ones in the LYN garage sale and mudah.my
But you need to audition it first. Never trust anyone with your money.

sorry for the assumption.
if you have the money, buy an expensive banana plug. sifu says it's goooodddd.
if you don't have much money to burn, get a cheap one.

and owh, sifu says banana plug makes a difference. expensive is good. cheap ones is no good

At the recent Yamaha sales in KJ, the RX-V465 were going at RM1592. That's after a 20% discount from RRP. I think most retail shops can match that easily. Nonetheless, as reported here, the model was a sold out at the sale.

Also, i cant seem to set it having Video via HDMI and Audio via Optical. It has to carry both video and audio out via HDMI. Hope some sifus here can help.

I went the opposite way, i gave 1900 to my dad for his birthday and get myself 2065 instead. All because the extra hdmi i needed and how he had been looking for 1900. He mostly listen to cd's i guess 1900 benefited him more. I thought i should wait for the new aventage series but i don't think my old man would need all the 3D and other gizmo in it.

If you think you'll need more then 2 HDMI in ports you should think twice before buying 663 as it has only 2.

Anyone know how to enable DTS Neo6 for upmixing of stereo source? I can't find Neo6 in the program modes. Dolby Prologic is available though.

FYI, i'm using yamaha rx-v659. i hope current yamaha models dsp mode are similar.

Check this out:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/...maha-RX-V467/p1

Yamaha RX-V467 AV Receiver. It's 3D ready as well.

Sold at Harvey Norman as a package together with Yamaha NS-P380 5.1 speakers.

I cancelled my earlier order of the YHT-S400 soundbar and got this instead as I found out the soundbar couldn't decode HD audio. doh.gif

Anyone owners of the above AVR here? smile.gif

And realize the Yamaha AVR RX-V367 do not have Dobly TrueHD & DTS HD, is it so important?
BTW just wondering why not much info about this system here...

Even if no DTS Master Audio nor Dolby TrueHD, just instruct your PS3 to send bitstream signal to Yamaha amp, let the amp decode DTS Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD,provided your amp have the decoder.

Nesvita, If i'm not wrong, it's around RM1,400+. Better call to check...
Before that I really compared between Yammy467, Onkyo308 and Pioneer520,
end up get a cheaper unit since I can live with it and I really like the Yammy sleek design.
Happy hunting smile.gif

have to agree. the cht10 is quite good. huge midbass slam. tho it can't go as low as certain svs models, the impact is very nice. the velo cht is a good buy considering that svs is now selling at nearly RM4k a piece.

I've got the exact same package as you did. It's really worth it, unless you fancy huge speakers, of course.

Which branch did you go to? I think you can nego to get it cheaper. Got mine for RM2190, if i'm not mistaken, from MidValley HN. nod.gif

RX-V1065 is considered Mid-High Range Receiver, the Soavo 900 Sub is High End, and the NS8390 with NSP60 is a mid high basic home theater speakers, which is a 3-way speakers.

the receiver and subwoofer is future proof, the next thing is if you may want to upgrade speakers in the future, you don need to worry bout the sub and receiver.

hi all,

need some opinion on yamaha avr here.

initially i went to audition new yamaha rxv767 at HN. already impressed with the sound.

But after further reading on few forums, thinking of switching to rxv2067, (under assumption it will sound better).

But this one not available for demo. the price is RM5k vs RM3k for 767.

So here just wanna ask is it worth the Rm to get 2067 over 767?

Anybody knows sound quality difference between 765 and 2065? ie is it big difference just slightly difference?

TQ in advance for the input.

Hey guys, while watching Blu Ray movie, how would i know if my Yamaha 467 is playing back DTS Master or DDTrueHD, because there is no indicators on the front panel.

I know other brand of av amp would show DTS Master or DDTrueHD when the system playbacks these audio.

If I'm not mistaken...

It doesn't / won't show... If you select 'Movie' on your remote it would play it as it is (If your source is DTS-HD, etc). If you select 'Surround' on your remote, you will see the PLIIx logo on the display and this will decode things for you.

There's also the decoder mode which is usually set to 'auto' (this matches the format of the audio input for you automatically). The other selection would be 'DTS' (this selects DTS signals only, other signals are not reproduced).

best you grab the manual and read up.. I've only read up a bit

I think u've got it wrong,bro.

If you press the MOVIE button - there will be pre-set choices like SPECTACLE, DRAMA, SCI-FI, etc.

I had the same problem at first when I popped in a BD. It just displayed DTS, when I was certain there was DTS-HD.

Anyways, when I clicked the STRAIGHT button - it immediately displayed DTS-HD Master Audio. nod.gif

There you go. Try it out. Come back here and tell us if it works.

I'm not sure on 467 but on 2065, there's a button on the front panel which said INFO, push it until it show 'Audio Decoder' .. and when you play your source it will show if its on DTS or TrueHD or PCM..

no need to apologise bro.. smile.gif

I'm also learning how to use the 467 myself sweat.gif
Lemme go back and see if it will display DTS-HD when I press the 'Straight' button or not.

From what I noticed, there wasn't any DTS icon at all on the display blink.gif

Here's what I read in the manual previously (page 29)

QUOTE
When you playback DTS-HD sources with Cinema DSP, the DTS decoder is automatically selected

Not really sure what it actually means laugh.gif but I think its when those words come on the display

Ah.. I think you're (dariofoo) right. Found this on page 30...

QUOTE
Enjoying unprocessed playback (Straight Decoding Mode)
Use straight decoding mode when you want to playback sound without sound field processing. You can playback as follows in straight decoding mode.

2-channel sources as CD
Stereo sound plays through the front left and right speakers

Multi-channel playback sources such as BD/DVD
Plays back audio from playback sources without applying sound field effects using an appropriate decoder to split the signal into multiple channels

Then 'Direct' is for...
QUOTE
Enjoying Hi-Fi Sound Quality (Direct Mode)
Use Direct mode to enjoy the pure high fidelity sound of the selected source. When direct mode is enabled, this unit plays back the selected source with the least circuitry.

All in all, get the manual and thoroughly read through it. laugh.gif

Straight means without any Yamaha Cinema DSP. For any other Movie modes, DSP will kicked in. IMO, Yamaha DSP is designed to be used with the presence speakers setup. DSP modes also allow you to have the "dialogue lift" adjustment.

Nope, my 467 panel won't display any DTS HD audio whenever i playback DTS HD movie on my Phillips BDP. It does not show any DTS on my old DVD movie too.

So i have no idea what movie audio it is playing.
