Hello there,

(Hope I'm posting in the correct thread)

I'm looking for a DV recorder with built-in smart card slot and Astro decoder

The problem with DV recorders is that they can only record whatever
channel that the Astro decoder is set to at the time.

But if the DV recorder has a built-in smart card and decoder, then it
can work as an Astro box and allow recording of programmes across
multiple channels over the course of a day.

It seems some Pioneer DV recorders have this slot and decoder.

But I'm not sure whether they are compatible with Astro.

Does anyone know whether they will work with Astro...?

Not too sure what you want to achieve... if you wanna do live tv or schedule recording of astro, a HTPC + Hauppage WinTV card (wintv-pvr-150 with a IR blaster included to change channels on yr astro decoder ) + MS Media Center shd do the job...

Someone even have the Electronic Programming Guide working with WinXP MCE...go here for details ..

or just get the Astro MAX, their version of DVR that I am current using, interface and features are not the best in the world but it gets the job done... sometimes buggy... but works most of the time...

Got third party MCE wannabes. MediaPortal is quite mature already. Alternatively there's GBPVR and if you don't mind paying money you can get BeyondTV or SageTV.

If you're willing to update to Win7 or Vista, can get MCE with Home Premium and Ultimate.

if you plan for recording then first thing todo is NOT to subscribe byond but using back old decorder which has s-video

is very rare to find a harddisk recorder that has component input so the best input you can get now is s-video

do hope one day china will come out a DVR that can hack all HDCP smile.gif
