Well the today screen is quite laggy , but the rest of the phone is fine , and it is responsive.
You might want to try it at the Samsung shop before you go and buy, if you use windows 6.5 default today screen than it is not laggy at all , and people here mostly install SPB shell which is very responsive and fast.

Hi.. I'm just wondering.. If we install SPB mobile shell, it will just disable the TouchWiz home screen, right? all other features like the menu, sms, etc will still be using Samsung's?

to those who are using spb mobile shell..

when you tap on the sms widget, it will default to winmo's messaging program, right? any idea how we can customize it to link to samsung's messaging instead?

hehe.. my first time with a smartphone.. quite a bit of learning curve..

thx a lot.. i got it. rclxms.gif
seems like touch wiz make the hp lag.. the spbshell did great job.. but if i change spbshell, i lost my threaded sms style.. any solution to this? the weird thing is after i enable spbshell, i cant switch to touch wiz again even i tick the touch wiz in the setting.. wat's wrong with it
*
For me, I'm using SPBShell & still able to have my Samsung's threaded SMS.. It actually depends on how you access the messaging feature.. If you use the SMS widget, you can create an invisible link to Samsung's messaging program, and place it on top of the SMS widget.. So when you tap on the icon, it will bring you to your link instead of the default Windows messaging.. To switch back to touchwiz, u need to use the "Show Today" via the Tools options in the SPB menu..

mind to show me how to create the invisible link?? i really totally new in this OS. noob at all.. i feel tat the spbshell is better than touch qiz.. juz i wan the sms and call skinned by samsung.. haha.. if it's possible then it will be great. can hv both feature without sacrificing either 1.. spbshell is much smoother than touch wiz.. touch wiz make my hp feel like tortoise

by the way.. add me in the owner list too.. juz get my phone 2 days ago.. notworthy.gif

personally, i'm using mskip's proplus ultimate elegance.. but, any of mskip's proplus versions also have the invisible link skin (can be selected via the change skin option for shortcuts)..

another way that i found out via googling (can't find the exact link back) is by creating a shortcut to the program that you want (i.e. Samsung's messaging), change the icon to a blank icon image, and using that shortcut as the shortcut link..

Personally, i find mskip's method much easier.. rclxms.gif

btw, forgot to mention.. please add me to the user's list as well.. got mine last weekend.. biggrin.gif

having a lot of fun customizing it at the moment, except for the fact that there will only be around 50 MB free program memory after a soft reset.. anyone have any ideas how to increase this?? i'm currently using SPBShell instead of widgetplus, s2u2 & resco's contact manager for my dialpad & contacts..

thx for the info.. i get 57MB left after turning off touch wiz and enabling the spb shell.. is it resco contact manager better than samsung dialpad??i think the default samsung 1 is quite nice.. haha
*
my mini comparison between samsung dialpad vs resco contact manager.. at least on why i prefer resco contact manager

resco contact manager - lists 5 options together with photos..
samsung dialer - only lists 2 options when you type on the keypad, and no photos displayed..

resco - all contacts list got a mini alphabetical list on the side.. can easily choose which letter you want to scroll to..
samsung - only a scroll bar on the right to scroll..

resco - has option to assign ringtone to all contacts in a particular group
samsung - going through forums, they say that video calls will be disabled if we disable the samsung dialer..

apparently, resco has a facebook feature as well, to use their pics on your contacts, but i can't seem to get it to work.. hangs when it's loading my friend list..

btw, i'm also a noob when it comes to winmo/smartphones.. so the above points might not be important, as they're slightly more eye candy.. tongue.gif

i personally prefer eye candy effect more than functionality.. haha.. tat's y i gonna stick with my samsung dial pad.
btw, how's ur battery life? since i was heavily customize my hp and play some videos and songs yesterday.. i manage to use 1 day only.. today.. i sms a lot and also play with the spb shell.. now drop to 67% ald.. dun think can last till tomorrow..
*
lolz.. at least you've used smartphones before.. this is my first time on a smartphone.. big learning curve..

battery life's ok i guess.. was able to last me slightly short of 2 days when i was playing around with it.. customizing here & there.. sms + calls, testing out the gps, etc.. not much on music & video yet though.. now at 87% after some calls, sms + around 30 minutes of gps this morning..

after you enable XTRA, did you try to download the XTRA data? i find that downloading directly (and not through WiFi) works better..

additionally, you need to be standing in open space for a while to get a lock.. when i tried mine, leaving it for more than 30 minutes indoors failed to get anything.. walk outside for a few minutes and got lock already..

hope this helps..

Just redownload the firmware and flash it using Octan downloader.

You have to hunt for the links though, since i didnt save it previously and am too lazy to go through the forums to find the link again =D

Official ROM links can be found at http://www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-...om-feb-10-roms/

Need to hunt separately for the CSC though..

Need advise from all those who flash their O2s.. Wanna know what are the ROMs you're using now, and if you all have tried custom WM6.1 ROMs?

For me, I was using stock Samsung ROM, until I flashed to KSTan's Lite JA5 ROM a few days ago.. Found that the finger-friendliness is better & has faster performance, but I get a bit worried about the amount of free RAM, and also the stability (hanged a few times already).. Personally, I don't make use of the honeycomb start menu, nor the titanium today screen. and I also don't want bloatware that I don't use filling up my storage, which is why I'm thinking of flashing to 6.1.

Any comments on your experiences with WM6.1 ROMs?

HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\HideOrientationUI: Change from 1 to 0

After changing this, you will find the option when you want to assign a button.

some question here if i deleted the autorotation.ink from \windows\startup\  it will help to disable the autorotation, but where can i assuign a key to make the rotation?  unsure.gif

after you make the registry change, you will have the option called <Rotate Screen> when you select a program to assign the button to. You'll need to use window's settings to change it though. Not sure why the option cannot be shown on Samsung Settings.

I am thinking to flash back to WinMobile 6.1 ,

Cause win mobile 6.5 having less RAM,

so I would like to ask 2 things , first of all would I miss any feature if i go back to win mobile 6.1 ? , or is the performance affected in anyway I cannot think of ?

anyone done this already , please share you experience with me and whether you are happy with it or not ?

What is the best Win Mobile 6.1 ROM i can flash back to , in terms of performance , ( not looking for ultra lite ROM) want a full featured Samsung ROM ?

thanks in advance.
*
I also had the same idea. And I just flashed back to WM6.1 a while ago. Upon fresh boot, I have 102.68MB RAM free, and 179.40MB Storage RAM free.. rclxms.gif icon_idea.gif rclxm9.gif

Will setup all my other software that I use, and update later on what goes missing..

Btw, I'm using Kuanchai's Lite ROM, which I think is the only cooked WM6.1 english ROM available..

----

So far, after flashing & installing all the software I use (SPB + MSkip mod, Resco Contact Manager, S2U2), I'm getting around 77MB upon fresh boot, which is around 30MB more compared to using WM6.5. So far, nothing's not working (yet!). But, moving between screens within SPB seems slightly more sluggish compared to when I was on WM6.5. Will test out more extensively over the next few days..

Why not try out Gary Crutcher's new custom ROM (based o February ROM).
Its running on WM 6.5 with 99MB free RAM (he modded pagepool to 8MB) and 144MB free space on Main Memory.

Personally, for me, this is the first time I'm using WinMo, so I'm going for the "safe" flashing approach.. Only flashing the PDA part, and not the eboot, etc.. tongue.gif
