Hi.. I'm just wondering.. If we install SPB mobile shell, it will just disable the TouchWiz home screen, right? all other features like the menu, sms, etc will still be using Samsung's?
*
Totally right unless you use registry editor tool to disable default samsung skin apps which has some consequences (e.g. no video call, unable to send mms). Depending on how you mod your phone.

Hi all, got myself Omnia II yesterday after ditching my 3-week old Jet. I was really disappointed with Jet's very limited organizer function, so I brought it back to the Lowyat shop where I bought it & traded in for Omnia II. Lucky my phone was still in showroom condition, & I lost RM200 in the process. But my Omnia is still using WinMo 6.1. I heard Samsung MY is offering free upgrades to WinMo 6.5, is it true ? Can I just walk in to Berjaya Times Square & get the upgrade ? Will the process take long ? Thanks in advance.

BTW, mod, pls add me to the owners list thank U.  rclxms.gif

It is free upgrade to IJ9 firmware. But be reminded that WM 6.5 ain't any better than 6.1. blush.gif

I might going back to IH5 which is the last official WM6.1 released from Samsung. I cannot bear the memory leak when enabling lock screen. And this problem occurs in every WM6.5 phones not only Samsung. Damnit M$.

Hi Jordan,
Every single WinMo phones got memory leakage issue, just whether a serious matter or not. There are many possibilities leading to memory leakage. As you know, WinMo phone is an embedded Window platform. It's like your normal daily Windows desktop/laptop. It's like nVidia/ATI provides their own driver for you to install on your Window desktop/laptop. Sometimes, there might be some line of codes lead to memory leak due to bad coding or no enforcement on coding habit. Thefore, it is subject to the developer's skill to avoid as much as possible on memory leaking. Again, you won't notice memory leaking issue on desktop because of few reason below:
1. Normal PC got 1GB ram nowadays
2. You reboot your PC/laptop more often than mobile phone

OK, enough of tech talk. FYI, Samsung's first official release of WinMo 6.5 ROM has memory not enough issue. At first, many people thought the TouchWiz is the culprit. OK, they disabled TouchWiz and use the WinMo 6.5's default Titanium screen but still found having memory leaking issue. Further checking, they found the WinMo 6.5's lock screen cannot release back the memory. And funny thing is, WinMo 6.5 auto kill idle application when RAM hit below 50MB. So in conclusion: Samsung and MS both contribute this memory leaking issue. Many people flashed unofficial Samsung ROM (amazingly, you can get it nearly every 2 weeks from Internet)

Meanwhile, earlier adopters recalls WinMo 6.1 is much usable and no need frequent reboot of the phone to free up the RAM. WinMo 6.5 seems like VISTA to me while WinMo 6.1 like XP IMHO. Samsung will release new official ROM quite often like they did for i900. I flashed the latest december release of unofficial WinMo6.5 ROM, i see improvement on memory handling and performance but memory leak is still an issue anyhow. Further checking, you can see many other phone like HTC, Toshiba also reported having memory leak issue. Don't worry you are not alone wink.gif

"The file 'PC_Start.exe' cannt be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."

anybody can help???

The best thing is re-install it. Samsung do support photo contact why you need another external app to support so?

Added on December 16, 2009, 9:22 amI reverted back to WinMo 6.1 yesterday night. No more sloppy performance and reduced memory leaking problem!

Another utilities i recommend would be S2U2... not to mention the iphone-alike lock screen. It does solve the memory leak problem of WinMo 6.5 and old/boring Samsung lock screen

Which version you are using? 2.21? Would you mind share me the link to download? Thanks rolleyes.gif

I already install the S2U2, and why after unlock the S2U2 , the omnia unlock screen will come back and ask for second time unlock.  How to disable the omnia lock screen function?
*
I assume you are using WinMo 6.1... if so, you can disable it at Settings -> Display and Light -> Lock Screen. Disabling it will only make S2U2 to lock only.

For WinMo 6.5, Samsung has discarded its own Lock Screen. You just simply disable the WinMo 6.5 lock screen will do (same steps as WinMo 6.1)

in that case, i already follows the steps, maybe im missing something. window can boot but cant enter main screen. are you succesfully cooking it?
*
If you followed the correct way to flash the ROM (only PDA part), you will see the OCSTAN downloader status whether the flash success or not. For your case, you see the orange boot screen means you are in good shape. First boot up after flashed takes longer because there will be an automated language selection/input setup by the CSC part. smile.gif

Guys, you have any recommendation of screen protector (or full body protector) that can prevent smudge, fingerprint? Zagg's invisibleshield seems only prevent scratches.

finally after few days of tinkering, i've managed to find my fav visual setup

- Khuanchai WM 6.5.5 build 23518 custom ROM
- SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3
- S2U2 (ori lock's slider is very laggy)

Many thanks to the guys here for the guidance, esp andrew. I started with your setup and after a few hardresets and tinkering, managed to get it.

Also, i've just flashed Khuanchai's PDA part (.nb0) from my ori WM6.1 OEM ROM. Seems to be working fine, but currently having this unknown miss call once in while. Still trying to figure out what is the cause sad.gif.

To all potential Omnia 2 users, this device is powerful and have a huge potential, but you can get the best out of it only after you peel off many of the blockages that is in form of the OEM programs. Like the horrible memory sucking OEM menu, the touchwiz and samsung widget, etc etc. Get a better UI for starters. That said, some of the ori programs are good actually. Like the touch player, the sms-mms program, etc.

If you want something good right off, then this isnt the phone for you smile.gif.
*
You know what I did to my omnia 2? I purposely downgrade it back to IH5 (WinMo 6.1) and disable Samsung Lockscreen, TouchWiz, SMS/MMS and Email. Installed S2U2 and Samsung Today (the one you see in German edition only). I got 80MB free ram without worrying my idling apps get killed at background. Almost all apps i download works as in WinMo 6.5, so what's the difference using WinMo 6.5? Because of the honey comb menu or the memory leaking lock screen? Nah.... vmad.gif

To be honest, I am hoping Samsung to release the new kernel of the phone to get rid of Ram wasting mapping and give us back the acceptable Ram size. Then I will only flash it back to WinMo 6.5.
