ow much is the 660A selling now. I am starting to like the Dvico 6500A but this player got lots of problem with streaming mkv from PC and doen't recognise external subtitles.

Any one can help to get external sub like srt to be recognise by 6500A?

Did u install Netshare on your PC? My 6500a is the only player that I have that has zero problems streaming 1080p mkvs. Second is WD TV LIVE. The HDX-BD1 on the other hand, is totally hopeless.

Yes, I install Netshare and sometimes it works fine, but then sometimes its real slow. Most of the time it shows, "unable to connect"...i Windows 7.

I have my external sub in srt and ass name the same as my mkv files. Some have additional ending eg

Spiderman.mkv
Spiderman.srt
Spiderman.Chinese.srt
Spiderman.Chi&Eng.srt

All of them place in the same folder but 6500A can only see one...i guess is the one without the additional info one. Any solution?

Did you try pressing the sub button to list all the sub files? If you depend only on auto load when you play the mkv file, it will only load the one with the same file name.

Actually you need to press the TITLE button to list the subtitle files. The SUBTITLE button will only toggle through the embedded subs or the sub with the same name as the video file. I forgot about this as I've been using univerval remote that has different button assigned for a while already.

So far I didn't bother to eject before uplugging the USB drive (luckily no harm done so far), but just read the manual and saw this "If you want to unplug the device, press the return button to 'Unplug or Eject Hardware". So give it a try to see if it works.

Price is not the question here. I got it for free but so far I founnd a few thing I like about this 6500A but a few things that really break the usability of it.

I manage to set my firewall so my 6500a can now stream from my PC, but there is a lot more problem I discover.
1. Those mkv file name with chinese character will not play from Netshare streaming.
2. In icon mode, the some movie cover just won't show up....eventhough its of the right format and size. Some of it show up fine. And the menu browsing in Netshare is very laggy...although playback is fine though.

My WDTV Live can recognise every subtitles embedded or external without any problems. I have more than 700 mkv and to go thru to merge them into the files is a no no. Why can't "the world most advance media player" even recognise external sub?

I have my subtitle the same name as the mkv(although I need to add extra thing like .eng&chi.srt or .chinese.srt) because you cannot have more than i file having the same filename in the same folder.

Still the 6500 cannot display this sub. Disappointing.

Now the only advantage of the 6500A over the WDTV Live is the the auto 1080P/24 switching and ability to move the subtitles position. WDTV Live is hands down much better in all other area.

Don't get me wrong. I am trying to use this as my primary media player but so far I encounter more problems than benefit. It might be the world most advance player 2 years ago but I think it is showing its age especially when compare to the newer generation player with much faster chip.

Anyway, anyone can help on how to display the chinese sub?

The way I see it, there's no perfect media player to meet everyones demand. That's why I have 3 with HDX being the most useless one now. Lol. I still think a HTPC is the most versatile solution. So counting my HTPC, I have 4 media players. LOL, I must be going nuts v

Yep, no player are perfect as of now. But i think a player should at least cover the basic right. eg...being able to display internal and external sub is the most basic of all. And also not able to playback mkv with chinese character filename is downright not acceptable.

Subtitles are never important to me unless I'm watching a chinese movie and they're speaking mandarin. That's why I say different people have different needs. For me, as long as it plays mkvs "properly" with auto frame-rate select, I'm happy.

Did you see all your subtitle files listed when you pressed the TITLE button during video playback? With that you could then move around (including into different diretory as well) to select the sub file you want to display for your current video playback. As for the chinese sub, you will need a utility to convert the .srt file into .sub+.idx files (will go back tonite to check the utility name if you are interested).

Both work ok for me.
