So far I've only gone to 368x208 @ 960kbps.
Going any higher bitrate would defeat the purpose of encoding with that codec. We're trying to achieve small filesize with just as good a quality.
I think I'll go lower but bigger frame size so pixelation won't be as bad when the video stretches to fill the screen.

Currently I'm aiming at around 60% the original file size, +/- 5%. Anything bigger and I dump it. 

I did attempt on converting a full DVD rip(1280x720).
But that took way too long, have to downsize anyways and I don't have much time. So instead I am now converting TV rips of top Gear, my favourite TV show. The original rip is perfectly sized for our tube(640x352, as it is ripped from British tv broadcast) and it looks brilliant as it is, DVD like if it weren't for its size. So I think it's a perfect one to start with.

BTW, we need a more competent video players in our Tube. It can handle high bitrate MPEG4 no problems at all, but can't handle even a large frame sized h.264 video, what's with that?

Great work, though, on the H.264 experiments, tunertoobe and the gang. I'm more of a resolution guy myself, so I'm gonna stick to XVID at full res, even if I need to tone the bitrate down a tad due to the 5800 not being able to handle EXTREMELY high bitrates.
On a hind note, to circumvent the problem with the 5800 NOT having a playlist for videos (need to go over to Symbian-Freak and sound this off, someone might program something in Py for this), I merged some anime series together - cutting out more then 1 instance of the OP and ED. One thing I can NEVER get right is the fact that for a 12-season series, somewhere in the middle, the voice and video gets out of sync (voice approx 1-2 secs behind the vid) and I never really could get that right.
Anybody have amy idea how to solve this little issue? In the meantime, I'm gonna go create a new thread on a playlist program for the default video player over at SymFreaks.

So I came to a conclusion for H.264.
Level 2, 352x208, ~960kbps is the most that the Tube can handle. 768 is recommended. AT that bit rate, the quality is identical to that of an identical sized video at ~1400kbps.
Summary: 352x208, 768kbps(850kbps the Tube says), 380MB

Bit rate: Can't get a straightforward answer from my player(VLC) but I'm guessing an average of ~2600+kbps. At some point in the video it has gone over 4000kbps.
Frame size: 640x352
File size: 733 MB
This was rushed so probably someone can get a better combo.

So with all the usages mentioned above after the battery is fully charged with usage duration period from 5.30am until 7.33pm, Finally got low battery warning. 

So what do you guys think? Is it the capacity similar to the default one?  Bare in mind this the first charge. 

Erm sorry for asking *video codec* question again... I dunno where to ask this.

I converted some videos using mediacoder, the settings are:
MP4 XVid, 768 kbps, 640x360 resolution, 128kbps mp3

But no matter what type of video i play in my tube (be it a performance show or a anime) the video will lag after a period playing it. Not only one video, it's every video. It will lag somehow and if i pause it and continue playing it's be ok, but after a few moments it lags again.

Anyway to solve this? Or is there other settings/converter which can convert high quality but lagless video? So far mediacoder converts to a good quality but it lags... even in lower bitrate.

im using xilisoft too..maybe you have set frame rate same as source file. I tried converting new flash forward drama las week with this setting and it plays without skipping or lagging..for lagging maybe the video got low bitrate..

so far i dun have any success playing any rm or rmvb format.lags like hell 

anyone here have success hardsubbing the rm/rmvb files?

Just updated to v31 firmware but most of my previous converted videos are still having some lagging problem. they just lags for ONE second and then continue playing like normal but it kinda pisses me off...

actually im also converting SNSD HD videos... tried with a crazy 3300kbps, wonderful HD experience 
But of course got lag for 2 or 3 times...
You use mediacoder right? XVid and aac? the xVid settings need to alter?

I installed all themes on my memory card, i afraid installing into the phone memory will have problems...

Just got a cheap temporary silicon case for my tube while waiting for the EPIK case frm askarperang... can't tahan with sweats/fingerprint marks on the rear cover >.<

P/S: I used a plyer to pull out my MicroSD =.= fingernail just can't do the job...

Im using 3000kbps LOL for maximum quality (at least maximum for my eyes)... Now no lag already, since im using the default theme.
