i think aac file is larger than mp3..am i right?

It is but that depends on the bitrate.
AAC encoded at lower bit rates surpass MP3s of the same low bit rate everytime(I heard this myself), and these have pretty much the same size as the equivalent MP3. So you decide.

Also low bitrates improve batt life. So if you have 128kbps MP3 all this while, then an AAC with lower bitrate would be best. Saves space and some processing power.

so i can assume that 96kbps AAC = 128kbs MP3?

Well, not exactly.
A rough rule is that at bitrates where an MP3 fails(usually 128 and under), the AAC prevails.
I'm not sure how a 96kbps AAC would compare to a 128 MP3, but that AAC should be quite close.
Also depends one encoders used as well.
