I think personal preferences matters a lot, so consider selecting a few and ask her to decide on one. It kills the surprise on the big day, but you'll save the trouble of returning the gift if she doesn't like it. It's also possible she might want a different kind for different/formal occasions, so no harm asking her to find out more.

I'm using one from Charles and Keith, been 3+ years I think, leather still looking good.

Thanks for the advice, so u think it's better in general to ask about her opinion first rather than surprise her when it comes to wallet ? Will take a look at charles & keith too.

I think for wallet, it's all about personal preference.

Some major consideration include whether you need coin pouch or not (zipper), how many card slots required, long wallet or short wallet, slim or bulky.

There is also trend of using chain wallet which can also be used like small sling bag especially now that we're using mobile for many e-payments these days, our wallets are getting slimmer in size.

Can you recommend me a few brands for slimmer wallets ?

Hello, I'm planning to do those DIY type of stuff like steel grid plate + polaroid pictures with fairy lights for my gf's next month birthday.

But just using those wire mesh steel grid seems so mainstream and not unique. I'm thinking of using some kind of blank black board or something, anyone got any advice or recommendations ? I searched google and shopee but most of them is the same old mesh steel grid. I want something special and unique for the background for the photos to be place at.

You can order MDF boards online, then just cut to the shape you need. You can paint it whatever color you want, you can even buy blackboard paint, then you can use chalk to write on the board.

If you want to be able to pin things easily to the board, you can look for corkboards. You can paint corkboards too.

thanks for the info. By the way, normally these fairy lights length, what's the standard length that people get ? is 3m enough ?

Me and my gf has been together for 300 days, just want to celebrate this small little achievement. Pondering on what gifts to get her ? She told me not to spend too much money, something simple and meaningful.

I thought of getting her bracelet, necklace etc, but she got all of them, and many of one. So she also said not to get her anything from pandora because it's expensive and she has plenty. She's the type that would spend money on me more than I would spend on her, but of course we both treat each other the same way. So any kind of simple gifts anyone can recommend ?

Hello, I plan to gift my girlfriend Jo Malone as birthday gift this year, I'm looking for something not too pricey within the list, as she doesn't use cologne ( not that I'm aware, or very rarely ), or if she does, what cologne would be the best seller and favored by many ?

What else do women go for when buying from brands like Jo Malone ?

Jo Malone budget can buy a nice 916 gold pendant or some earrings. More valuable (and retains value better than perfume) especially if she normally do not use perfume/cologne.

That's actually a pretty great idea, any rec for 916 gold pendant ? I think pendant would be a good choice

Hello, looking for advice here, I and my girlfriend have been together for more than a year, I'm finally meeting her parents this weekend by following her back to her hometown in seremban.

I would like to bear simple gifts when I go over to meet her parents, as it's only right to not go meet her parents empty handed, I suggested hamper to my girlfriend but she said normally hampers is only for new year or other occasions, so any suggestions here for a simple gifts for her parents ? Definitely don't want anything extravagant as they are all very easy-going casual people, humble down to earth type of family.

Sorry TS, I wanna pry a bit 👀 I was under the impression you had a gf for a long time so I'm surprised to see just 1 year. What was the breakup reason with your old, if you don't mind sharing? Also can PM if you don't want to share in public.

Back on topic, I think it's best to ask your gf what her parents might prefer. I personally don't like hamper because they only look good outside. Inside usually packed with random shit you don't want, or even things nearing expiry... Maybe times have changed but in my circle of family/friends, nobody does that anymore. These are what we gift around (mainly CNY examples but I think they're suitable all year round):
- dried mushrooms/scallops
- herb or spices (looooots to choose... Whatever you throw into your soup or cooking)
- high grade soy sauce or chili sauce (my relatives got connections who make them so...)
- canned abalones
- chicken essence
- dried fruits/nuts (my mom loves walnuts and macadamias)
- manuka or other pure honey
- lastly, bird nest or ginseng, premium AF.. we don't gift these but I'm just listing this since it came to mind.

Hello, yes I broke up with my previous last relationship of 4 years, well I don't mind sharing, I would say we both just have different paths and it just felt like to the both of us, we are more like blood-family than a couple, not sure how to describe that, but yeah, it's ironic or even hypocritical to say this, but I still genuinely love her and wish to see her happy and live her life to the fullest.

Thanks for the suggestions, I actually plan to buy some local snacks that only Johor Bahru have, which is similar to what many of you suggested, thank you !

UPDATE - First of all thank you everyone for all the suggestions, in the end I went with local food and snacks that only JB have.

By the way, we will most likely be eating out, I'm thinking of paying for the bill at the end of the meal, either secretly go pay first or offer to pay the bill , should I express this gesture ? Her parents is very casual easy going type according to her, maybe slight traditional, so seeking opinion for this.
