The new syllabus would have more theory than before. However, some papers wont change much like Audit or Tax. However, the only advice that can give for those who are sitting for optionals and core next sitting (hopefully), make sure u clear P3.7 cause if you clear that one, then you dun have to sit for P7 which in my opinion, is a killer paper.

Contents of P7 are super heavy on theory and the areas covered includes

- Corporate Governance
- Professional Ethics (Theoratical)

Very dry and boring paper.

Cheers

Er.. ShezzaR, sorry but i think u might have made some mistake in paper's number... Student who passes 3.7 will be given credit for P1 or P4.. U may meant P4 Adv Fin Mgmt instead of P7: Adv Audit... smile.gif smile.gif

QUOTE(Shezzar @ Oct 21 2006, 01:02 PM)
Hmm the question here is which paper are u deciding to take? Generally all the new syllabus would be more difficult that before. However changes are not much in papers like Advance Audit and Assurance (AAA) and Advance Taxation (AT).

As you may noe, Business Information System (BIM/3.3) has been taken out and incorporated into, IIRC, Advance Performance Management or P6.

If you would be taking Optional papers in June sitting, i suggest that you take either 3.1/3.2/3.4. Try not to take 3.3 cause if you (god forbid) fail that paper, you would have to take a complete new option.

Its really difficult when you're taking optional in June 2007 cause you would 1 chance only to clear it all. If you don't clear it, you would fall into the new syllabus system where you have to take your CORE paper first before taking your optionals.

Again, if your interest is still in 3.1 and 3.2 then i suggest that you stick to your interest.

Cheers
SheZZaR
*
Thanx.. Again some mistake here, 3.4: Biz Info Sys, not 3.3.. I think ur trying to mean do not take the risk by taking Biz Info Sys (3.4) rite.??

Additional info, students who are eligible to take an Options paper in June 2007 will be allowed to take new Options papers with or before Essentials papers, subject to timetable clashes. By so, the problem of doing optionals or core first in new syllabus is solved..

QUOTE(coolly @ Oct 21 2006, 01:09 PM)
umm..want to add a bit is that even u take 3.4 in june 07,and said unlucky if failed, then a new optional paper also waiting for you lo....not only 3.3 i guess.. rolleyes.gif
*
Thanx for ur guidance..

to be more specific its AFAIK only affects ACCA. CAT i dun think has any syllabus change. Then again, i may be wrong a g a i n sweat.gif doh.gif

But im quite confident that its only ACCA and not CAT

Haha, u r obsolutely right this time.. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif CAT just changed its syllabus in June04, so the lastest changes only apply for ACCA Dec07..

how dis course??good??hope some senior can share experince here....
*
Haha, ya, too general.. I guess evyone here will say its good, perhaps one of the best choice in accoutancy course...

Anyhow, the major 'complaints' would be:
(a) The papers are challenging, especially the final part of ACCA (part3).. The world passing rate only about 30%-40%, and i think malaysian passing rate might be much lower than that.. sad.gif sad.gif
(b) The examination fees are paid up in pound sterling, which making it quite an expensive course.. Even worse if student keep fail in the papers n repeat in the examination (time n money lost).. cry.gif cry.gif

But infact:
(a) The lower the passing rate, the better it should be.. Just imagine, if anyone can simply get ACCA qualification with 2/3years of study, what so great on this proffessional qualification anymore.?? If u hope to stand out from others who took accountancy by uni degree, ACCA is ur choice... Just a simple theory, the higher the risk, the better outcome u should expect from it.. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif
(b) If able to pass ACCA in one go, the total money of the course is generally much cheaper than any other private uni degree which ll cost >30k for degree program... rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

I would like to ask something.

If I get an OBU degree, am i qualified to study MBA?

Some of my friends said that those with a degree that is accriditated by LAN only eligible to study MBA,is it so?
*
I might not give u the exact answer that u wanted.. Depending on wat MBA u r looking for.. MBA from local uni or foreign one..?? In fact, OBU itself offers MBA for ACCA graduate.. If foreign case, our ACCA-OBU is a recognised degree in UK, so most probably will not encounter any problem for MBA.. thumbup.gif

LAN (NAB-National Accreditation Board) recognise degrees into two categories which are 'approved' and 'accredited'.. AFAIK, our ACCA-OBU degree is not even approved neither by LAN nor JPA yet.. Plz refer to relevant authority for clarification.. But i strongly believe u ll have not much problem getting into MBA with ur ACCA-OBU, even if local public uni..

How true is this..??

"We do not set a target percentage of candidates to be successful at each exam sitting. Your results in each and any paper are totally uninfluenced by any previous exam record, or the performance of other candidates"
Quoted from ACCA Student Handbook

One of my lecturers who also the marker of ACCA told me, he once accidently marked his own student's answer script (That particular student wrote his name n address in answering one of the questions).. My lecturer gave him 30+ marks n hand it over to his superior.. This is confidential info, he didnt tell his student anything about it.. Result out, the student pass with 50marks.!!! From 30+ upgraded to 50.. Is this the 'real' passing mark for ACCA part 3..?? Just to control the passing rate, the original 50marks passing mark is fake..??

Any comment..??

From what i heard, every paper got a "floor mark", just like price floor in econs.....for example, if the world passing rate is 30%, they will adjust the marks until that min target is achieved....so, ppl who initially who failed the paper will be remarked and most possibly passed the exam! But to be fair, this exclude those ppl who failed(48 or 49 marks) marginally due to fundamental error they make as their script will be separated from other scripts....... icon_idea.gif
For me, this is quite normal.....in PMR n SPM they also will adjust the statistic... biggrin.gif
*
thats very true for PMR/SPM, but at least our gov never reveals the passing marks for that.. ACCA 'gives their words' will never adjust the so called world passing rate, giving me a doubt to blif wateva they said anymore, but hide in behind.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

the exact P9 format is below:
Q1. Personal and/or partnership (30-35%)
Q2. Company Tax and/or partnership (20-25%)
Q3. RPGT (20-25%)
Q4. others (20-25%) [mostly theory]
[NB: partnership seldom out in exam]

I tot that the thread starter of this topic is the intention to ask which college to study ACCA......not supposed to be ACCA chat??

Correct me if im wrong.......i juz think that can discuss ACCA thing at it own thread......then this thread is more than 100 pages....should be given attention..........

** editted - Juz my 2 cents, no offense to anyone........
*
QUOTE(darkages @ Nov 3 2006, 09:06 AM)
The thread is ok.

I occasionally check this thread for spams. No doubt there are some who chats/spams but its quite reasonable to have spams in threads. 80% of its contents is useful.

As a reminder, cut down on chats. Open a chat thread in Kopitiam instead and keep this thread clean and informative.

*
Good idea.. I also think 100+ pages is over burden in this thread n forumers having difficulties to search for information.

I have created a new thread at kopitiam. Mainly two rooms for ACCA/CAT:

1. ACCA, which uni/coll? in Education Essentials
*ACCA/CAT tuition providers
*comment on lecturers
*exam/study tips
*any enquries from 'potential' students of ACCA/CAT

2. ACCA/CAT's chat in kopitiam
*Any chats from the members/affilates/students of ACCA/CAT.
*The lastest news of happenings in ACCA

You are welcome to pm me for further amendments/dissatisfaction of the new/seperation of the threads. Thanks. smile.gif

Plz refer to ACCA website for more detailz n on new syllabus on ACCA.. In total ACCA has 16 papers, but students only requires to take 14 (2 out of 4optional in part 3).. Are u sure UUM qualifies 12papers exemption.?? Erm, in fact no any degree can get any exemption for the last 5 papers (part 3), max exemption only up to part 2 (ie. 9papers)..
