Dear friends,

I'm sorry for the delay of September's event due to some incidents occur at my side here. I wish to introduce a new home by doing an event after the Hari Raya.

The Islamic Medical Association Malaysia, comprising of Muslim doctors, nurses, paramedics and medical students, established a halfway house called 'Rumah Solehah' for HIV positive women and children in June 1998. It aims to provide assistance and temporary shelter for HIV positive women who have been abandoned by their families.

With the inevitable surplus of HIV/AIDS infected or affected children and orphans, Rumah Solehah ("RS") opened their home to the first HIV child in 2001. Since then over 50 children have been cared for in RS. RS gets referrals from all over the country, from doctors, the welfare homes, Pengasih and the Malaysian Aids Council. Currently there are 22 children in RS.

A second home was opened in 2004 to cater for the increasing number of children. They have taken on board a most challenging task to address not only the daily sustenance of these children but also their educational needs and to ensure their optimal physical, emotional, spiritual and cognitive development. A TALL ORDER BY ANY STANDARDS!!!

Whilst many have failed, Rumah Solehah is now into her 8th year of operations. RS continues to attract visitors nationwide as well as worldwide, as a model of a dedicated HIV/AIDS institution:

a. that has expanded from a shelter home for women to now addressing the needs of children with HIV/AIDS;
b. that has seen her residents "graduated" to be with their families and the wider society and some of the children have been accepted by their families/extended family members or fostered/adopted;
c. that has laid out concrete plans for their institution's viability, financially and human resource wise;
d. that has remained within the fraternity of the Malaysian AIDS Council and her election into the executive committee in 2004 further reinforces this resolve of sharing, caring and learning.

Here is some details of the event as I've planned:

Date : 27 September 2009
Time : 12.00pm
Address :

3 Jalan Makmur 3
Bandar Tun Razak
Cheras
Kuala Lumpur 56000
Contact No. : 03-91721533 or 03-91737373

Please let me know if you are free to come for this event.

Thank you! wink.gif

As for the outcome of the meeting,

1) CarroTT will helps to outsource for the food for the residents.

2) Vig will be helping out in guiding the people for the direction.

3) Slyvia and friends will be taking care of the drinks.

4) Since the event is starting at 12pm, I will look for a place to meet up earlier at around 11.30ama - 11.45am before we go to the home.

5) This is just a simple lunch and gathering with the residents, I hope all of you will have some great chat with them.

I will be updating here from time to time about the progress of preparation. At this moment, I need to have a list of volunteers who confirm will be joining for this event. Anyone? Please leave your message here!

Thank you!!

At the moment, nothing else.
Ian will update with the meeting point soon because we will be using MRR2 to go there.

I'm having difficulty setting up the meeting point. If you're coming from PJ it's a different direction to those coming from KL/Ampang.

If from PJ I suggest to use the Federal highway and then turning into the cheras exit point at mid valley. Here's the map:
http://maps.google.com.my/maps?f=d&source=...6,0.111494&z=14

If coming from Ampang/KL, just get onto the MRR2 to keep it simple like this:
http://maps.google.com.my/maps?f=d&source=...1494&z=14&via=1

Or if coming from KL(via Jln Loke Yew) here's an alternative route:
http://maps.google.com.my/maps?f=d&source=...8,0.055747&z=15

If you have any questions just give sms/call me at 012-3351021 or msn me at lancer9@hotmail.com

There were not many people turned up for this event but we all had great fun with the children.

I am thankful for all the helps and supports given when I started to plan for this event. I do understand a lot of people are having the fear towards HIV positive patients, but the children never wanted it at the first place.

I've spoke to the chairman and person in charge for this Rumah Solehah, and I will personally design an education program for the children as they do have some difficulties in their academic learning. I am here seeking for some volunteers who are able to go to the home in helping me to carry this program out. Due to I'm starting up with my own business, I will not be able to commit myself to travel from PJ to Cheras on a very frequent basis to teach them. I am able to provide free training and materials will be given free too for anyone who willing to help out with this group of children.

Please let me know by leaving me a message here, or PM or you may contact me via HP - 0192728122

Thank you! smile.gif
