Just got back form the sc repairing my iafm. it turned out they need to cut a bit part of the iafm, then the sound is no more. I asked the mechanic, he said by default the factory assembled the wrong size of one part in iafm. So basically, each persona owner should be screwed  laugh.gif

[attachmentid=1192586]
The iafm i think. forgot to take the part he modified

So far most of my problems are no more, except for the infamous metal-hitting on the right front tire.

So do we have to use Proton's parts or can some of the below mentioned be purchased ourselves, as I believe like Engine Oil it would be cheaper, but what brand and type of oil? I hear 3rd party filter will void warranty, what about better spark plugs?

What about Manual Transmissions? Do I need fluids?

QUOTE(2fast2furious @ Sep 12 2009, 07:53 AM)
From my many years of experience in driving and owning a new car before....

-  Engine oil
-  Oil filter
-  ATF oil (for auto obviously)
-  Brake oil
-  Radiator coolant
-  Power steering oil (very rarely to change)
-  Air filter
-  Spark plugs

The above is all there is to it. Nothing more. Yes they will push you to buy oil treatment etc etc etc to suck ur  moneyflies.gif . Just say no.  flex.gif

depends on the SC......try taking eneos semi 10w40....for that, i had used before..the oil consider thin compare to different oils........its not bad....lighter pedal...or u can just get Mobil Super 2000.......its much better......im had changed 2times, engine remain smooth as baby butt brows.gif

30 too light for the engine? cuz i seriously would like to use lighter oils. the oil proton using is too thick. if not mistaken its 50 rite?

fully synthetic or not, no matter what, a lighter oil is always resulting in a nicer better drive.

So can you guys compile a list of what we shouldn't accept when we service our cars to avoid paying our money unecessarily? Or if we follow the service book all is ok?

Also what are the stuffs you guys recommend we buy ourselve and bring to service centre? Care to share what brand/model?
*
1. the useless Magnetrap http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showtopic=89017

2. all oil additives like X1R etc etc

3. car wash/engine wash

4. balancing & alignment

5. all other unnecessary accessories

Yes you can bring your own oil as long as 20W-50. You have to assert, repeat, ASSERT, your rights and do not have to accept the brand that is thrown to you.

They will use the flimsy excuse that the oil you bought from a particular hypermart might be fake and spoil the engine. You can counter by saying that the oil that they are pushing might also be fake or you can challenge them by writing a letter that all oils from that popular hypermart is fake.

Hey jack111,

I think your SC might have problem with that lube because its too thin for Campro. Modern engines should be able to use thin lubes because they have much smaller manufacturing tolerance compared to the 90's, but honestly I would think its too thin for our engines. 30's have lower ability to withstand shearing at high temperature, and you know Campro is pretty hot after you run it for a while, plus our hot climate. However, if you still insist on using it and the SC says some crap about it, you can show your Persona manual pg. 123, "Selection of engine oil" and the only two requirements are API SJ and SAE 20w-50.

Every SC has the tendency to treat you like they know more than you, but I would recommend our fellow forummers to build good relationship with your SC, if you want to get things done. If you think you've got a point, give them a smile and tell them why you think some things should be done in different way smile.gif.

Proton has done good work in consolidating their vendors, and the next step moving forward would be to work on their after sales service, provide "customer service 101" to those sitting at the counters and provide incentives to keep the more experienced mechanics from running away from Proton SC.

RM98....yeah..still ok..but 10w40 or 5w40 is the best in terms of protection and lightness.....

btw....with full tank of petrol, and driving style rev till 4000rpm, 80km-130km, 70% city ( mostly straight road but jam, slow traffic, heavy braking and housing area or street) and 30% highway...i can get 310km++...
aircond on all the time and automatic.....

and i feel that the higher the mileage the better fuel consumption and going topspeed is much faster....btw the current mileage is 38325km laugh.gif
