Slow and steady as long achieve the retirement goal. Just dont compare.

400k @ 30 yo is quite a lot...

if started working at 25... 400k/5/12 = 6k+ monthly set aside from salary... so we maybe looking at 10k+ salary so early in his career...

took me 5 yrs to double my starting pay from a very good job and it is still way below what he set aside ... lol

it is inflation I think.
so how much inflation should be account for to depreciate our investments?
*
am not fully understanding your question...

if talking about what is actual real inflation adjusted returns, then use gov cpi as standard... but this is usually used to see if your investments sucks...

for retirement planning... i would added inflation to expenses side of the equation, and it depends on your spending bucket and time frame... investment + returns vs expenses + inflation

net worth is already inflation adjusted... ie, what you see now is what you get...

I think he meant the amount back it 40yrs ago and now cannot be compared directly due to the inflation. 3k 40yrs ago may not compared to 7k in current Era.
3k then could have bigger buying power than current 7k. So a current 30yo salaryman should get much much higher pay than than a 30yo salary man back in 80s in order to sustain the same living standard.
*
min pay has gone up... but starting pay is still very bad nowadays...

anyways i was just looking at the 400k net worth at 30yo... this looks very above average... he must have very good job and maybe side gig...

Thank you for your reply. Appreciate it.

To be honest for the past few months, some nights I am unable to sleep. Kept thinking..
Have the thought of grabbing a knife and stab through myself, while laying on the bed, whenever I couldn't fall asleep..
*
i only started working at 27... account zero... assets zero... you are so much ahead by comparison...

median household income is only around 2.2-2.5k... you are above average

you run your own race man... it is fine to compare with others, but dont let it consumes you...

Not that big of a difference, around 500k additional if I push to the current retirement age.

The difference is more if I opt to retire early. If I retire wanna retire by 50, EPF total falls to about half. Power of compounding.
*
power of constant top up... and big amount at that wink.gif

Ooooo.... i'm waiting for theedge or EPF to announce how many EPF members have more than 10 million in EPF... last stats was for 2020, and it was 248 persons. I am sure it is nice to be in this list...  biggrin.gif

less exciting is the stats of 67K members having between 1 to 10 million in EPF.
*
you should be happy in the 1-10 million group vs the <10k group... wink.gif

Any tips on where to look for learn trading?
*
1. options alpha - everything about selling options... good video series, takes a week to go through... put them at 2x speed wink.gif

2. babypips - good learning series...

3. youtube - come here last after learning some basics... lol... some good channels around... but plenty of fakes...

4. seminars/coaching - can help one get started and tune up... don't fall for ponzis... dyod, don't pay too much, free is best for starters...

paper trade a year before real money... helps build sop, test out methods...

ppl go collage/uni 4-8 yrs to learn basics... so take your time learn properly... plenty of money out there, but market is trying to get yours... biggrin.gif

good luck

for inspirations... lol...

As of now working for 7 years in chemical engineering field.
Yes, I got no student loans too since I had full scholarship in chemical engineering.
But as a side note,

I know this sounds not important, but I had never drop a single A in public exams.
UPSR - 5 As
PMR - 7 As
SPM - 11A1
A LEVEL - 5 A's (Top 3 student in my batch) in Sunway University.
Uni - 2nd degree honors (Yes actually at this point in time, I felt abit demotivated, since I am single and never had any gf in my life).
So i kinda let the gas off, and just didn't feel the need to push tilll I get 4.00 CGPA.

Well, time flies, but at least I am debt free, only issue is I am still single, no girls want to date me.
But like you guys said as long as the heart is happy.
*
7 yrs experience 9k pm... imho a bit on the low side... dunno if you are doing anything wrong... high IQ only gets you so far... you need EQ to get ahead... and luck/godfather to make it big... ive known some super smart ppl but they are assholes and hard to work with... wink.gif

also dunno what type of company... and if they have separate management ladder and technical ladder... obviously management gets higher pay and go further... but some ppl really like technical so there is that...

as for your net worth... we all agree here you are doing OK... smile.gif

as for gf... probably need to build up your personality/EQ more...

What EPF should do is provide the stat in certain granularity that show breakdown of how the depositor's grow from year to year which show how one progressing over the years rather than just slice the data in some way to support the narratives of doom and gloom that always ended up ethnically segregated and have vs have not group...
*
poor and useless will always envy the rich no matter what stats you show and how much help they get...
