Congrats, I think you can diversify your AAPL holdings, unless you are comfortable with large positions in just one counter.

How long have you been working in SG? 2M USD at this age is incredible. Usually people achieve this in their 50-60s.

Was in the semiconductor industry where I was paid in SGD and stock plans in USD. That explains why the bulk of my worth is in USD. Could have more SGD but it was used to pay off income taxes worth about RM$2M to the PAP government for exercising my company stocks.

Forgive me for my foolish question (not yet working), exercising share options are taxed as income in SG? I thought that is capital gain, no?

Yes, commenters in this forum really helpful. You have to study before you invest.

Just my 2 cents, if you want 100% of return around 4%, you can invest in SSPN prime.

If you want slightly more, you can consider high dividend yield stock, example like KLSE Tenaga, Maybank, collect more when market is bad, don't invest in lump sum if you are not confident enough. Or you can buy batch by batch, dollar cost averaging of investment reduce the effects of investor psychology.

You can also consider robot advisor platform, like Stashaway, Akrunow or Wahed, some ETFs perform very well, example like SP500, VOO, QQQ. But take note that US market all time high now. A bit risky at this moment.

Hope you found it useful in your investment journey, cheer!  smile.gif
*
From which source did you get the info that SSPN Prime is paying you 4% p.a. with 100% certainty? Even in the official website, the only word they use is "kompetitif". There is no guarantee that you will get 4% p.a. It might be higher or lower.

You can, however, count on the government for credit/default risk as the "investment" is guaranteed by the government.

You can't blame those who predicted the future correctly and moved their assets - or moved themselves - out of the country early enough not to suffer the horrendous depreciation in value that came with years of mismanagement, corruption, cronyism, nepotism and abuse of the NEP under successive regimes.

I'm lucky I hopped on that train before it left the station.

It's never too late to board the train. biggrin.gif The station is always open... at CIQ Johor Bahru... laugh.gif

I hopped on one back in August 2023 to Singapore. Never look back bro.

If one is selling time for money, why not sell for GBP, USD or EUR and then spend on MYR, VND, Baht, or whatever lower standard living country?

Oh, I have other factor to consider like marriage, kids etc.

If just purely looking at money yes SG is not the best place to work. Earning CHF might be a lot better.

Then there's also tax and living standard considerations in GBP, USD and EUR countries. Capital gain tax, inheritance tax etc. all eats up your wealth.

A lot of things to consider, in the end I choose SG in the end to stay with my future special one. smile.gif

that's the thing.

many thought in order to earn SGD you have to be physically in SG. To earn USD you have to be physically in US.

but actually not.
*
I think it depends on your profession. Most professional white-color jobs like doctors, accountants, professors, researchers will require physical meetups with clients and students. In those cases, earn SGD can only be done in SG and likewise for other currencies.

Arbitrage in spending can be done in places where there are geographical proximities with different currency strengths. Famous examples are like JB and Singapore, Shenzhen and HK. Not sure if San Diego <-> Tijuana counts... well Americans do cross border to Canada and buy cheaper drugs...

Anyway, I know tech bros and crypto bros can be digital nomads, but then not everyone's interest or strength is in cryptos or coding.

To each their own lah

I’ve come to a point where our annual passive returns have exceeded our usual annual expenditure with excess to spare.

But old habits die hard. We got here by being prudent, chronic savers, blessed with outsized incomes. Wealth didn’t land on our laps, but was earned by hard work and long hours.

Hard to shake those habits off…

Hello everyone,

I’m feeling uncertain about where I stand at my age. For some context, my wife took a two-year break from work, which made things financially tight for a while. I’ve been covering her car payments, insurance, phone bill, our child’s kindergarten fees, and other expenses. It’s been manageable, but our savings and investments haven’t grown much during this time.

The good news is, my wife will be returning to work soon, and her salary will be surplus income for us. This means I’ll be able to save at least MYR 3-4k each month.

Info
1. Age : 37
2. Job : Comms/PR
3. Status : Married with a kid
4. Nett Income : MYR 11k

Assets
1. EPF : MYR 296k
2. ASNB : MYR 13k
3. Crypto : MYR 18k
4. Stocks : MYR 8k
5. In Bank : MYR 2.5k

Liabilities
1. Car - Fully paid for (13 year old car)
2. House - MYR 259k remaining, at MYR 1500 mthly, 26 years to go
3. PTPTN - MYR 45k

Location does matter, you stay in Klang Valley?

11k in Penang is not the same as 11k in Klang Valley, and definitely not the same as Alor Star.

user posted image

Warren Buffett Donates Another $1 Billion. He Has Estate-Planning Advice for Everyone.
Four family foundations will receive shares worth more than $1 billion

QUOTE
Buffett offered a suggestion for all parents, wealthy or not: “When your children are mature, have them read your will before you sign it.” He said it is better for children to be able to ask questions when a parent is still able to respond.

QUOTE
In discussing his fortune, Buffett, ever the teacher, highlighted the importance of compounding, especially after many years of investing.

“The real action from compounding takes place in the final twenty years of a lifetime,” he wrote. “By not stepping on any banana peels, I now remain in circulation at 94 with huge sums in savings—call these units of deferred consumption—that can be passed along to others who were given a very short straw at birth.”
