dang i should've gotten a D3000.. oh well D60 is fine for me too.
wanna seek advice, when taking pictures in low light, like taking shots of people having dinner at a dinner table, what's the best option? without external flash, using D60 and 18-55 VR lens. i know hardware's a limitation, but just trying to know my best option and pushing it to the limit. |

QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Sep 22 2009, 01:28 AM) I don't think it's convenient to use a tripod here... He wants to take photos of the people sitting in a table, not like a photoshooting session or studio shoot... thanks,IMO you have some choices: 1. If the place is totally dark, with extremely dim light (very very dim orange light etc) you should use your pop up flash, set the flash compensation to a few stops lower depending on the situation. if you don't like the harsh flash maybe you can DIY a diffuser or bouncer for it. Better, get a cheap external flash like Nissin Di622. 2. If you don't like to use flash, use the widest aperture (lowest F number) and boost up the ISO. But by doing this you will sacrifice the IQ, since the photo will be noisy. Lower the shutter speed to about 1/30~1/50 depending on the situation. Suggestion: use aperture priority mode, uso AUTO ISO and the lowest F number, and let D60 decide the shutter speed. With a steady hand 1/30 should not be a problem 3. Just turn the dial to night mode (no flash), let the automode do the job. (high noise) 1. night mode portrait flash is too harsh lol. DIY diffuser is possible on built-in flash ah? hmm might have a look at the cheap external flash. 2. yeah the high ISO is pretty annoying, pictures turned out grainy. will test the A mode again, i think i did try it just now though, forgot. 3. did end up using the no flash mode, which seemed to be the best. but if the subjects move, the pictures will still end up blurred. QUOTE(aaron1kee @ Sep 22 2009, 01:39 PM) That's the way to go! But when you reflect the flash make sure that the power is sufficient to bounce back and light up the subject. But I'd recommend you to get an external flash. The output will be simply amazing. QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Sep 22 2009, 09:22 PM) Ya ya the reload card will do the job... but only when the ceiling is not too high, if not the effect will be minimized. getting a flashgun is the best and one-time-go solution anyway.. ok thanks guys, will look for that budget flash gun soon |

QUOTE(Proclaimer @ Sep 27 2009, 01:12 PM) performance wise.. you get what you paid for.. probably almost as good as sb600.. But in terms of build quality sb600 wins hands down.. hmm what do you mean by performance wise nissin not as good as sb600? got any sample pics of the difference in output between both? For long term usage better get sb600.. |

QUOTE(epet24 @ Sep 28 2009, 01:17 AM) what you want to specifically talk about? all of the models in this thread are roughly alike, so it's ok.Added on September 28, 2009, 1:50 am QUOTE(silver_de_gene @ Sep 28 2009, 01:47 AM) everybody... i need help. it's a good time to start practising your manual focus i think.. i'm planning to get the 50mm 1.8 too.i just bought a D5000 a week ago. my next purchase will be an external flash and a lens. i was thinking of 50mm 1.8 coz it's the cheapest and i'm looking for a lens with big aperture. the thing is, i just noticed that this lens is not a af-s lens and i will not be able to have auto focus. the af-s 50mm 1.4 is way too expensive... now, my problem is, i notice that af-s lenses are at lease 2-3 times more expensive then af lenses... meaning that i have to fork out so much money if i wanted to pruchase lens. will it be better to buy a D90 instead? (at least i can save up on lenses) or just go canon? (nikon's 50mm 1.8 = RM380, canon 50mm 1.8 = RM340) This post has been edited by kenji_britney: Sep 28 2009, 01:50 AM |

QUOTE(faiz92 @ Oct 2 2009, 11:37 PM) Here some example (sorry for noob picture) Nice tamiya! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Note the background(At the book 'SPM exam secrets'), at 50mm,its more blur blur(bokeh)!( i wish i have 70-200mm F2.8 so that i can show at 200mm F2.8 i guess bokeh can be explained as macro in a way? lol.. btw, no flash and dark conditions is really really hard, especially with fast movement too.. i took some miss world malaysia shots last night but almost all blur.. lol. |

QUOTE(faiz92 @ Oct 3 2009, 11:44 AM) Thanks Kit lens only, 18-55 lo.. haha, really zoom (or focal length) to the max 55. will update when resize my pics.Btw,what lens did u use? if longer focal length, then more light lost. Have to set the Ev to +0.7 +1.0 then higher ISO, well, this is one of the reason why i upgrade to D90 Nice video,i think u should use wider angle rather than focus on the cloud only. Or maybe, have some subject in the picture, like a car or something .(discovery channel use buildings Thanks for good explaination! I always use my F2.8 at F4 because it is sharper and nicerrr.(trial and error) Anybody do CLS here? |
