How's the reviews from D3000 users? Just read this today: http://kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3000/high-iso-comparison.htm

Seems like D3000 doesn't work too well at high ISO.
*
when hi iso will be useful? still learning... normally we'll taking pictures on low iso rite?

low light conditions.. google up to understand what is iso for..
*
i did googled and generally i know what iso is for... but i want to know, from any of your experience, how often and useful is the hi iso (1600 above) in taking pictures. generally hi iso will introduce noise... would it be better if we introduce more light (external flash, etc) instead of increasing ISO?

ok..that mean u not really understand what iso is...well..if we have external flash, y we want to increase the iso so high?? yes, high iso will have more noise, but that is for when u in low light condition and dont have external flash...well, my opinion, actually the iso is depend on user, if u feel the high iso is having too much noise that u cant accept, well, go get external flash..=)
*
i dun have the experience... what i want to know is comparing the same condition, lighting (low lighting) etc, which is better (in term of qulaity picture and noise level), having hi iso no ext flash or having low iso with external flash... if youre taking pictures in low light, logically the subject is near... unless u want to take of maybe sunset.... but still u can use low aperture and longer shutter... the problem is when the subject is moving (people etc), where u cannot use long shutter.... so the question, which one is better low iso + flash OR hi iso + no flash....

i'm asking because i need to decide to buy a zoom lense or a flash.... cannot buy both rite now....

1. flash (either nissin di622 of sb600)
2. prime lense (maybe nikon 50mm f/1.4D or 35mm f/2D)
3. zoom lense (nikon AF-S VR 55-200)

like taking indoors and night pics... thanks

go for SB600, but if budget constraint n nid it fast, Nissin Di622 is up to the job
*

1. Flash = nissin( price and functions) Sb 600 ( expensive and sexy) = nissin for me
2. prime lense = 50 mm ( better / too expensive) 35 mm ( cheap enough to learn about prime lens)= 35 mm
3. Zoom Lens = better go for 18-135 or 18-105 comparing the price of the 55-200mm.

u need a tripod for night pics and a flash of course
go for a sb600 if u have the commander mode  icon_idea.gif
*
don't think i can use commander mode... using D3000.... i'm also thinking of buying sb600 together with prime lense... it would make it faster for taking night/indoor pictures rite? i just don't like the standard 18-55 lense + builtin lense when taking indoors...

u can use build in flash as "commander" for both Di622 n SB600
both flashes can detect the light from build in flash n fire simultaneously
if u wan both flash n prime, cheapest package will be Di622 + 35mm f/1.8
Rm450 + Rm750 = Rm1200
y not? maybe he dun mind using manual focus
or could be he do not know those lenses cant autofocus on D3000
but he did state 50mm f/1.4D & 35mm f/2
*
sori for the confusion... i know it cannot autofocus on d3000... just it fits my budget... but on second thought, its quite hard to manual focus... tried on standard kit... need more practice....

originally want to buy d90, but since i'm still new, decided to buy d3000 with extra 2000 for lense and flash... planning to upgrade body later... now its time to learn... with that extra 2000, still thinking on what to buy.... that's why i targeted sb600 + the said lense... total would be around 2k if not mistaken... one thing for sure, i'll buy flash... sb600 look nicer... smile.gif how bout performance between sb600 & di622? much different? di622 worth buying? sori, try to research on this but recently too many things todo...

and i don't think d3000 can use it's builtin flash as commander...

i dont think he is talking about 50 f1.4 D and 35 f2 for a d3000 body. sweat.gif

Added on October 22, 2009, 9:51 pm

well if that the case, get a flash first, it will change everything with a flash (build in flash is terible). D3000 kit lens is a very nice lens, try explore and get more out of it. Prime lens that works with d3000 cost quite alot as what i suggested to you about af-s 50 1.4 that cost as must as a d3000 body itself so u can only aim for a cheaper prime which the the cheapest dx design to cheer the d40's category to enjoy some nice prime feel with bokeh drool.gif
*
day pics outdoor with the standard lens is ok... only indoors i don't quite like it... maybe i should get sb600 + AF-s 35mm/f1.8 instead...

what kind of indoor pics u planning to take? indoor portrait, indoor events? going slow and easy doesnt mean u cant afford for a better kit, u just have to try step by step. 50 mm is almost a must have lens for everyone since it can quite cover alot compare to a 35 mm. U have to move alot with a prime lens to adjust your distance to frame your target, try to zoom your kit lens to 35mm and play with it more before u buy a 35 mm f1.8.
*
mostly potrait, children... they moves alot, that's y i'm aiming for faster lens and speedlite.... good idea ... y did'nt think to try like that... doh.gif thanks

i would get the 35mm if i didnt have 50mm yet.. since its wider.. useful on tight area.. nevertheless, 50mm is a hell good potrait lens  nod.gif
*
35mm on dx format will have wider view angle from 50mm dx rite? will the subject look wider/fat? i just trying the 35mm and 50mm using my 18-55mm lense... seem like ok... but beginner's eye maybe cannot notice... any comment?

i got confuse... 50mm dx format or 50mm fx format is better for potrait?

flash is a must, if i were u i would save alot more for a AF-S 60mmf2.8 with a secondhand cost like rm1600++ cause u can do both macro and nice portrait. Flash is a must doesnt matter day or night time. Nissin is the best budget flash. Dont go for the brands. Cheap and nice to consider is the 17-50 f2.8 tamron which cost only rm1300.
*
after a lot of reading, instead of choosing di622 or sb600, i'm thinking of either Di866 or sb600 (due to budget). also read somewhere, sb600 look nicer on a d3000 because of its size... but i dun know the size of di866... don have the opportunity to look around... what do you guys think of di866 size compared to sb600 on a D3000? the specs of sb600 is good enough, but i won't mind adding a few rm to get di866 if size fits...

haha, if u wanna compare like this, u can also consider secondhand sb800 which u can get around rm1000 to 1250 which is alot better than sb600. Nissin di866 is as big as a d3000 body  flex.gif . Remember one thing when u buy flash gun, u will have to spend another rm100++ for batteries and charger hehe= expensive hobby brows.gif
*
the size is that big? maybe i'll just setle for sb600 then... anybody want to sell sb600? lucky i have lots of rechargeable batts and a charger... smile.gif most of gadgets n toys i use rechargeable... hehe...

sorry for interrupting

now everytime i snap pics it will save in folder 101d5000 instead of folder 100d5000

when i tried adjusting Active folder in Shooting menu i can only select D5000.

i want it to continue in folder 100d5000. how?
*
i remember when i change the picture size setting and set the file numbering to continuous, it start the 101 folder... active folder u cannot select.. u have to type using up/down button i think... i would suggest u transfer all file from memory card, then set the active folser before taking any picture...

Guys, where can get cheapest SB-600? cheapest i ask 845... is it advisable to buy 2nd hand sb-600?

tq

well beside the small size thing about a nikon SLR, Af motor is not really a problem
Most i think all new release lens are AF-S which can auto focus with d40
Only a cheap must have lens which a d40 cant auto focus  is nikon AF 50mm1.8.
The rest of the top top 5 poisonous lens cant be use on a d40 non build AF body flex.gif

It really depends on what kind of pics u shoots. with the different of rm 1000 , u could buy another lens to cover much more.
Worrying about the lens that u can use ? Trust me, when u can afford to buy some nice 2.8 lens, the cost of a SLR body doesnt really matters to you.

again, its a very well build and small DSLR doing what a SLR can do in holiday trip without being kept only inside your bag because of the weight of it.
I just cant imagine how tired is it walking around with your family with a D3  blink.gif
*
Totally agree... i was into d90 since long time... but at last minute change to d3000... $ is the big issue... trade d90 for d3k and accessories (which i'm still looking)...

anybody know where i can get sb-600 second hand? any online photography selling sites etc? tried lelong and mudah with no luck

there is a sb600 selling by a penang fellow in mudah and if budget ok, u can try a sb800 on lyn or photomalaysia.com

nissin di622 will do a good work too  nod.gif
*
if budget only, i want to take di866 but according to somewhere i read, di866 and sb-800 is too big for a d3000. any comment?

also, what's the main difference btween di622 and sb-600? most of the forum i read suggest sb600 over di622... i heard di622 doesn't support CLS.. what CLS is good for?

tq

comparison graph 18-105 is better, the pics taken by 18-105 is oso sharp throughout 18 to 105
18-55 starts to soften from 45 onwards
u cant compare 18-105 with 55-200, as 18-105 is almost all-in-1 lens, 55-200 is zoom tele lens
I've used my fren's 55-200 n IMO, it is sharper than all-in-1 lenses
the Rm400 70-300 dun have AF motor
even if dun mind manual focus, the optics arent that great
the new AF-S 70-300 VR perform far better than it
*
is this 18-105 is the d90 kit lense? anyone want to sell? hehe...
