what should i go for ?
lens first or flash gun first ?
*
The standard answer will be buy flashgun first. I think this is true in the film days. During that time, most film cameras rarely have built in flash. Furthermore, once you decide on the film ISO, youre stuck with it for the whole roll ... unless you push. If you push, then its for the whole roll. Then if you push, the picture come back all grainy one. cry.gif

With digital, you have a lot more flexibility. You can push to ISO 1600 for a single shot. The next shot can bring back down to 200. Most entry level DSLR also have built in flash. Then you can review on the spot how your flash pic turns out. Can try different camera/flash setting to get what you want. hmm.gif

In addition to this, now you can take several shots and post process i.e. vertorama, HDR etc etc.

So you have so many more options now. thumbup.gif But given all these arguments, most people still end up buying the SB-900. doh.gif Maybe Nikon put some nice smelling hallucinogenic chemical compound on the SB-900 box, I dunno. flex.gif

ic..thats why they always said cant use many lenses..4k nowadays? j one also? err.. like this must go to d5000 lor sad.gif

How many lenses do you plan to buy? If your budget is tight, then no point talking about buying dis lens and dat lens. Lens also expensive mah. cry.gif With D60 also can take great pics. You can buy second hand old manual focus lenses. For landscapes, portraits you can get great pics with these also. biggrin.gif

nice speech man rclxms.gif totally agreed with you
i tried manual focus but seems kinda hard
need a lot more practice rclxub.gif

I dunno about other type of photography, but if you do landscapes, check out hyperfocal distance. You can basically set focus at approximately 5m and aperture at f16 and get everything from front to back sharp. How much simpler can it get? But to do this, the old lenses with distance scale helps a lot. biggrin.gif

D is distance information, so the lens transfer the focus distance to your camera and your camera can know the focus point drop on where.

Try turning to manual focus, and you will notice your viewfinder got "rangefinder" bar that tells you where is your focus distance on the subject.
*
The G lens also transmit distance information to the camera. Same like D lens. Dun believe me? Download the Nikon lens brochure here. whistling.gif

I suspect the G is done to improve weather sealing. By not having the aperture ring, there is one less place for water/dust to get in. Other than that, its a minus point for me. Cannot use G lens on my manual FM2. As Unker Ken say, G is for Gelded biggrin.gif Tak de telur. doh.gif

where to buy,how to check if there any problem n watever u all think it should maybe...argh..cant wait for my first dslr and first shoot
*
I assume you're buying a new one and not used. hmm.gif

Nikon is not transparent with the serial numbers of D5000 which are on recall. I think you have to go to Nikon Malaysia's website, punch in your camera serial number and they will tell you whether it needs to be fixed. Kinda sucks if you're buying a new D5000 and don't know for sure if its a lemon. mad.gif

There is this site (Nikon Watch) which list the serial numbers of D5000 that have problems. I have no idea whether the list is for models sold in the US only. You can print this list and bring it to the shop. If the numbers matches cry.gif perhaps better to avoid buying that particular one.

I think wireless is a subset of CLS. Is the SB-400 part of the CLS system? Dun think dat one can do wireless. hmm.gif

I have one too. That's why this one caught my eye...was thinking of buying it for a spare. The VR mechanism on mine sometimes comes on and doesn't at other times currently I'm waiting for it to come back from the service centre.

Check out this link. The 18-200 is up there somewhere. doh.gif

Not surprising due to the complexity of this lens and also the fact that it was a "hot selling" lens since it was introduced 3 years ago.
*
Let us know what is the story with your lens. To check the lens, will the Nikon service center open it up? hmm.gif If they don't replace anything, how much is the cost for just service? flex.gif

Ha ha. Sorry. I think I read three threads in here about shop ripping off newbies buying UV filters. biggrin.gif So be careful buying the accessories. Its when you're buying the small things that you get shafted most of the time. cry.gif
