Sorry to hear that :-(

I'm using Hotlink, topup only RM30/month. Enough for lite browsing, checking Gmail, Twitter and sync Remember The Milk (via Astrid), BeyondPod, and Google Calendar. Set to update every hour.

Use tethering only when outstation with no Internet service.

Oh by the way, there is update for RA user. Latest is RA-HERO-v1.3.2. I updated mine with adb method :-) The latest version is much cleaner compared to the earlier.

The thread is here: http://is.gd/4X7jT

I put the image inside my sd, and run

CODE
adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.3.2.img
adb shell reboot

As simple as abc.

All these telco plan are very confusing.. & they keep changing over the months.

Celcom Bluecube has variety of Handset to choose from (every of my favourite phone they have it).. n can get at a really reasonable price.. But their data plan is expensive for me.

Digi pulak.. there is almost no option to choose from..even if we get the hp from them it wont even be cheaper than u get it urself outside. But then the unlimited plan is Cheaper... (not sure d speed etc can match celcom or not since digi one still new in 3g) & + Digi u can terminate the service any time. No contract.

You might want to directly ask Celcom/Maxis/DiGi is you wanted to know about data plan & rates. I believe that's the best way to educate ourself about those things.

naTTan,

I removed (according to Paul's features list):
1. Jbed Java
2. Notes app from Dragon
3. android-wifi-tether 1.60 pre3
4. Andrew Schwimmer's WiFi Status indicator

All HTC default apps are intact. I might go another round and replace Peep with TwitterRide. Mostly because Peep's bland interface and icon.

Edit: OK I removed Peep completely by adb shell rm /system/app/*Twit* as suggested by Paul.

Update: OK this maybe just a placebo. I feel my Hero is faster without Peep and its widget. And I saw this

That seems about right,

I have removed,

HTC Stock.apk
Android Stock.apk
HTC PC Sync.apk
Peep and Peep Widget apk
Andrew Schwimmers Wifi.apk
Teeter.apk (since i have the full labyrinth)

Haven't remove Jbed and Notes and since i am using tether, won't be removing that. What does Jbed do?

I was wondering if it was possible to remove the launcher.apk since we have rosie running on top.

In regards to the Celcom/Maxis/Digi discussion.

Digi is offering great prices, but 3G connection is limited someone right? Unless you are planning on light usage then i guess this is the way to go.
Celcom has great coverage, and for some time i was thinking of jumping over, but since i am a Maxis user i rather stay on this telco.
Maxis data packages has several variety for data, and rather then limiting the speed like Celcom, you get 3G speed with all packages with different badwidth cap.

The only biggest drawback is Maxis is an ass for not having any Android phones.

naTTan,

About the Stock, do you remove DCSStock.apk too?

Edit: JAC at XDA suggested this http://is.gd/4X9wr. And http://is.gd/4X9QR and this http://is.gd/4X9So

Edit: Well I removed Stock with adb shell rm /system/app/*Stock*

Yeah removed both stock and the widget as well. What does the java app do?

Hmm most of them had no problems removing the launcher apk. How come we don't have odex file?

I think someone should start compiling those apks functions and dependencies. That would be very useful :-)

Anyone tried AOSP Eclair on Hero yet? The UI is ultra tempting!

Guys, sorry to lari from topic a bit. Do not mean to disturb you guys too.

Just would like to know whether the HTC Teflon coating, is it scratch proof? Did you all buy any casing to protect it?

The screen is anti-smudge so is a screen protector necessary? If i do put a normal screen protector then the screen will no longer be anti-smudge?

Trouble you guys to share what you all did to your wonderful phones.

Thank you for your time.

Check here http://is.gd/4YlAe for Android Developer Challenge 1 Top 50 Apps. However for me they are just some trophy apps. Great idea, awesome features but not that applicable/useful to me.

clivengu, yes Hero can record voice. You can see the icon over there.

The teflon coating is not scratch proof, but oleophobic, which means it is 'oil resistant', that your sweat and oil from your fingers and skin wouldn't leave dirt on the coating. furthermore, dirt can be removed easier with the teflon coating.
it is stil advisible for you to add protection casing for it, just in case you drop it or scratch it.

The screen is anti-smudge, and somehow quite scratch resistant, just like the iPhone. But if you put it in ur pocket with coins or keys most of the time, it is certainly advised that a screen protector to be applied. There are some anti smudge screen protector available, altho i'm not sure is there any for the Hero.

JayC75, i noticed that this happened quite often to me also lately. Just lost the connection to mobile internet randomly. Wondering is it the fault of Celcom or the phone itself. What i do is just enable the Airplane mode for a few seconds, then off again. You should get the connection back.
