QUOTE(kazami @ Dec 30 2009, 10:59 PM) compare this and diamond2, ppl recommend diamond2 more handy to this hero Unless you have a very specific application that you need to run on windows mobile, I can't find a reason that you should not go HERO instead.1. Hero is capacitive, and diamond2 is resistive, give both of the touchscreen a try, you should be able to feel the difference straight away. 2. Sense UI is a lot more better than TouchFLO. For diamond2, the first few screens looked nice, HTC done a good job, but after you click in a couple more times, you are presented with the ugly windows mobile default screen with white background. HTC Sense UI is more integrated with the android operating system, because android is more hackable. Windows Mobile is a fading platform, it stand no chance against IPhone, android, on the other hand, is catching up fast. |

i've read this thread thru for bout 2 hours dy, basically i might wanna root my Hero. but still dono which ROM to choose from. MoDaCo? Yes absolutely :-) My Hero was exactly like yours.
I wrote that with one thing in my mind. To share a step by step, direct and foolproof (not really!) guide to root local set Hero. I rooted mine exactly like that, initially. Mine you there files mentioned there are outdated. You may want to get them updated. Let me rewrite that for you. 0. Save MCR into your sdcard (don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 3.0c. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAnD Note: This is an image of an operating system. Just like Ubuntu/Fedora live cd. 1. Install OpenIntents' File Manager. Latest version is 1.11. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAtp Note: This is a file manager. The use is to install the app mentioned below. You can easily install this if you open the download link from your Hero's browser. 2. Save Flashrec into your sdcard (don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 1.1.2. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAK1. Note: This app will enable you to replace stock recovery image to a custom recovery image. 3. Save Amon-RA into your sdcard (again, don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 1.5.2. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAVD Note: This is the said custom recovery image. This is to enable you to flash MCR into your Hero. You can't flash a custom ROM without this. 4. With OpenIntents' File Manager, browse your sdcard and install Flashrec. 5. Open Flashrec, touch backup (the last button of the program). Wait. Note: This will backup your original recovery image. 6. There is a box. Type sdcard/Recovery-RA-HERO-v1.5.2.img, then click the button just below the box. Wait. Note: This is to replace your original recovery image to a custom recovery image. 0. It's wise not to blindly follow the above and following commands. Check your spelling and such. Basic. 7. The horror part is done. Turn off your Hero. Note: Now it's time to flash MCR from the custom recovery image. 8. Hold POWER and HOME simultaneously. Button no 2 and 4 from left simultaneously. Note: This is how you enter the recovery image. 9. In the Matrix. Note: Welcome :-) 10. Backup your original ROM. How: Backup/Restore > Nand backup. Wait. Note: Revert to your original ROM by Backup/Restore > Nand restore. 11. Backup your data. Fark now only want to backup ah? Note: Sync your contacts to Google Contacts. My suggestion. 12. Wipe your Hero. How: Wipe > Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe > Wipe Dalvik-cache. Note: Factory reset. You know it. 13. Flash MCR. How: Flash zip from sdcard > SDCARD: 3.0-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip. Note: This is it. Flashing a pre-rooted ROM. 14. Oh shit. Note: Pray to your God. Or Gods. 15. Reboot. Note: 1st start after flashing a new ROM indeed is long. Just wait. 16. Go sell your Hero. LOL. Edit: Some pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Jan 4 2010, 10:06 AM |
