Hi everyone,

I am planning to get my first ever touch screen smartphone (budget <rm1k), after finding some info online, I decided that my choice would be Nokia X6 8Gb.

Can anyone give me some tips/guidelines on buying it? For e.g., what are the things which I should take note of, what should I ask to the seller etc.

Also, a few other questions:

1) Does it support dictionary function?
2) Can it multitask? Like open msn, facebook and gmail at the same time?
3) How good is the OVI maps function, in terms of reliability (up-to-date, voice command)? Can I request to install Garmin in it? Is it free? Or, OVI maps are good enough?
4) What are the top advantages/weaknesses of the phone from your own experience?

Sorry if the questions are kind of vague, but I am a total noob in techie stuffs like this. icon_question.gif
Thanks in advance~ smile.gif

1) yes, there is one built in dictionary, can dl additional languages to it, (max 3) or use 3rd party dictionary
2) yes, but depends on availability of free ram, the phone might autoshut some of the prog.
3) graphically better, POI still lacking, for me i used it as 2ndary if garmin doesn't have a specific POI (they complement each other)
u can request it from seller to install it free for you if you buy from a physical shop but the license itself is not free
4) main selling point is the capacitative touchscreen, weaknesses is the built quality, low ram, low cpu speed
*
Ok, noted smile.gif
4) For the low ram n low cpu speed, does it mean the phone will hv higher possibilities to hang most of the time? So, usually do you only open one application at a time?

OVI Maps is quite outdated for certain maps...Garmin is great but it somehow caused booting problem to both my X6 and N97...so I uninstalled it cry.gif
OVI Maps is free but Garmin needs to pay...anyway, install a "pir***d" copy from phone shop no charge if you buy from them tongue.gif

Capacitive screen responsiveness rocks man!!!

Oh, I read some of the threads related to Garmin, and it seems that it is a common problem? But, it won't have too much effect on the x6, will it?

its capacitive screen, very responsive. sound system very good. but the cover of USB abit sengek. other than that, din realize any disadvantages so far.
actually not consider as low adi( although i noe there are alots of phone hav higher ram and cpu speed, but u hav to compare about their price 1st ma)
will not hang, unless u open >10++ application simultaneously.(izzit necessary to open so many app at one time? hmm.gif )
garmin on X6 is awesome.  accurate. but sometimes when i enlarge the map too fast, need some second to load.

Ah, I was actually having second thoughts about getting one.. Worried about lots of stuffs, n totally alien to the Symbian World. Don't know what is what, and too many info to digest. Oh, and I haven't go test the unit yet. But then again, I think I should just go for it tongue.gif Take a big step, haha..

So far, the screen seems to be its best selling point. I wonder if its harder to use as it is only responsive to fingers compared to those with stylus? I tried before using friend's touch screen phone, usually ended up typing the wrong alphabet accidetally (with fingers), or maybe I'm not delicate enough hmm.gif
Haha, won't open >10++ applications simultaneously, maybe 3 or 4 tongue.gif yup, I know. For that price, it's ok d.

yup, sometimes will wrong press the alphabet for me when sms. tongue.gif  but i think is ok, bcoz still fresh to touch screen, later sure will used to it.
X6 din support stykus, unless one special stylus, dunno called what name adi.
but i found that my Nokia 5700XM has better speaker than X6. sweat.gif

I found out something called the Swype. Can this be used in X6? It looks cool & probably will help in sms-ing thumbup.gif

yaya. i remember adi. is POGO stylus. just for capacitive screen only
*
Oh, POGO? Is it commonly found? How much is it in Malaysia? Saw it on the web for $14.95. For touch-screen, usually after use, it's common to be smudgy and greasy, right? Will it decrease its sensitivity? Means, evday also have to clean it? tongue.gif
