Err... Change my mind though. Waiting for something better from Nokia. Ever since X6 is released (from X series), Nokia have something in their sleeves. So have to wait loh. Don't want regret later. And really hope a better design. MAEMO 5 is so awesome, even WinMo 6.5 can't compete with it. Neither OSX and Android. Multitasking, yeah! AWESOME. somemore user friendly. drool.gif

We can't assume when it's the right time to buy. I have my N97 and still loving it. Just looking for a second phone.

N900 MAEMO and spec is awesome, but after X6 official release, the N900 design is abit downside. So, have to wait (if I'm patience enough). But if I didn't manage to control my patiencness, and finally bought N900 and few month later, N900i is release. I may resell the phone and buy a new phone. doh.gif

Anyway, I MUST WAIT. I MUST I MUST I MUST. doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

i thought the pricing is already revealed

QUOTE
The Nokia N900 can now be pre-ordered from both the Italian and German Nokia sites. Its available for pre-order at €599, thats about €100 more than what was in the official announcement. Pretty steep in my opinion, but its not the first time we have seen nokia devices being over priced when in pre-order. If you want to pay a fair price for the monster device, then better keep your hands out of your pockets until October!

So since this is running linux based software... will there be many apps for this like apple/symbian? That might be a make or break it for this phone.

Added on September 4, 2009, 3:13 pmNow of course the big question that every mobile website will talk about,

Nokia n900 vs iphone 3gs? What do you guys think. I was leaning towards the iphone until I saw this... looks interesting. .

lol, i actually tried to googled the forum u mentioned and the result was No results found for "daily what forum"
Just joking. I actually found this.
Wonder if all the apps here are supported by N900. No more Ovi Store?

For the looks, I feel the N97 tilting screen looks more cool. Any idea N900 screen can tilt?
And also i wonder if they have put this N900 to any abusive stress test like what they have done for N97.
It would be more cool if the camera is at least 8mp (and without a glass-scratching cover).

Malaysia as a 3rd world and poor country may need to wait until 2011 before Nokia is interested to release this phone here.

I believe when N900 is officially launched in Malaysia, other countries like Singapore, Korea etc has already been using N910 or N920.

Even iPhone 3GS is lauched 10 mths ago in Singapore before Apple launch it here in Malaysia.

So, in a nutshell, Malaysia always use outdated and 2nd hand technology.

Wow Maemo totally rocks. ohmy.gif It's definitely more of a computer than a phone. The phone is more like a side function. Notice how they show the phone function at the very last of their videos. XD I guess that's why they call it a mobile computer.

A certain phone that can't even multitask is not even a rival.

Well said on the bold part. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

It haven't reach asia market yet. But, I have doubt it will come to Malaysia too. Nokia only target the most demanding country. Sad to say, but true though (unless they change their mind).

N900 news was leaked on the net for quite some time now but nobody knows how the interface looks like until a few days before the official announcement. I almost got N97 too but after its official announcement, I decided to wait for this instead partly due to the lukewarm review of N97 and partly because the interface for maemo is crazily impressive. Not to mention, the official announcement of Motorola Cliq seemed to make N97 a bit less interesting as well as N97 little brother the mini.

Im worried for the N900 Maemo to not be put too much view as the Symbian. Means more like nokia test market, scared it is just a bunch of market gimmicks which worries me. Like the recent closure of UIQ. I for one kinda like the N900 after looking at their youtube review. Let see how it goes

My personal assessment of Maemo for Nokia is as followed.

Ewan, the chant (others) "The beginning of the death of Symbian" is grossly exaggerated to begin with anyway.

However, after seeing the official launch of X3 and X6, it further strengthen my hypothesis that Nokia is pushing the S60 and symbian in its current form to mid tier device without actually look like doing so. Let's face it, X series is just another name for Xpress Music 5xxx series, by dropping the conventional naming sequence, Nokia has done a clever facade over the event and elevated its move on pushing symbian device out on mid range.

For the next two years, Maemo will play some good role in defining the flagships and high end devices in Nokia's profolio. It might be just for a niche market but certainly Nokia is under pressure to come up platforms that is refreshing and mind boggling quick to fend off the powerful emergence of devices that run on Android, WebOS and the very overated iPhone OS. They don't want to lose their big share of the pie that they have gripped over the years.

It started to make sense now seeing how N97 fold out, it didn't have the latest processor nor does it have the the biggest amount of ram. It is the legacy device that represent how far S60 could go with all the touch, qwerty and widgets. It was never intended to be next-gen, it represents the iconic flagship device that accomplished way more than it originally was intended to be. While N97 was drawing love hate attention, Nokia secretly develop N900 running on Maemo 5 to surprise other competitors. You can see how they launch the thing. It was short and swift. Officially launch this month and expected to go on sale next month. It caught everyone by surprised especially the UI.

As for the future of Maemo? I can only predict that it will dominate Nokia's flagship for the next 2 years, that would further depends on how well the reception of the platform & performance of N900. When Symbian ^ 4 starts to roll out. I would believe that Nokia would jump back to symbian seeing Nokia's strong tie/relationship with Symbian.

Note: It is my forum post on Allaboutsymbian forum.

what he's trying to say Andriod has reached the hands of user. Plus the abundant of softwares available. Maturity level of andriod is definitely better, with the newly launched donut 1.6 . If maemo needs to catch a piece of pie, it needs to work hard in coming out more application or functionality to the device.

Only the phone feature will work in portrait mode. So if you turn the phone to landscape it should display the keypad if not mistaken. Similar to squall's post, this phone is design to work in landscape mode. Look at the logo's position.

Tentative 19th October in Europe & US. Rumour has it, that they're delaying it till end of the month. Delay is due to some firmware issue.

My handset n70 has problem at its' screen.
When i switch on this handset, it is couldn't displaying anything except the blur black and white points.

Is it problem at hardware or problem at software?
Or this handset has viruses?

Hi guys,
Has anyone bought it??? for AP Msia?
I got a question on it's battery performance.....

How long does the battery last?
1) for heavy usage(Internet Surfing, Camera, music) ?
2) standby?
3) normal usage(just call, no Internet Surfing)?

I have seen the info in gsmarena.com but I want the review by the user itself.....

Tx

Windows Mobile 7?
Recent article in lowyat.net on WM7 seems very dissapointing.

Unlike other smartphones, the N900 is a very powerful device. While others are more of a phone (phone/mobile based OS e.g. Windows for Mobile VS Windows for PC), the N900 is an internet tablet with phone functionality. Imagine a tablet pc (or notebook with touchscreen) with the size of a handphone, and it comes with phone functionality.

Anyway, talk about waiting for Windows Mobile 7. Why not check out this smartphone ITG XpPhone which comes with Windows XP! Say goodbye to mobile based browser, mobile this, mobile that, etc. It's Windows XP running on the mobile phone! But the looks of the phone isn't very attractive tough and it's HUGE.
http://www.xpphone.com/en/product/configuration.html

Now that's a true contender for the N900; both are not your usual smartphone.

today i tested the n900 camera, the pictures are almost like n97..
and i just played with it like 20 secs, its so damn fast...every single touch will response, not like n97,u touch,u wait for 1 sec or lesser only response..
*
touch and wait 1 sec? blink.gif

Why dun you say "touch and it's response"? The N900 is great in term of speed. 1 sec for wait is hellish long thumbup.gif

The default is resolution is 3.5M resolution (widescreen).

The camera function is pretty basic, probably that's one reason; and ask your customer to choose lower ISO settings for less noise but will not be clear in low light conditions. In Automatic mode, the camera will auto-adjust to higher ISO settings for brighter picture resulting to more noise as I've read in some reviews that the N900 image noise is pretty high.

It's not the best 5MP camera phone, but I think it's OK. Would be better if there're more settings/features available. For N95 comparison, I'm not sure, maybe try ask your customers to play with the camera settings on the N900 first and compare the results.

I have read many reviews and watch a few hand-on videos on YouTube regarding N900. As with any other devices, it has pros and cons.

But for me, as a Linux user and Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) fan, I'll gladly pay to have N900 at that price.

What I like so much about N900:
- QWERTY keyboard
- availability of Linux terminal - SSH is very important to me
- availability of Linux development tools (VIM, Python and etc)
- availability of Linux network/security tool (NMAP)
- governance by FOSS community - users, developers have a channel to communicate with Nokia
- Maemo5 is an "open and transparent" Linux in a phone, unlike Android which is a very locked-down Linux.
- ability to port desktop Linux application to Maemo5.

Basically, for a Linux geek... he/she most probably willing to pay high price for this phone.

Depends what are you looking for in the phone. X10 and N900 is very different in terms of design.

X10 lacks of qwerty keyboard, but it has much bigger display, 8MP cam, 1Ghz snapdragon processor, slimmer, plus it's a SONY.
It runs on Android OS, which have very good support, fast updates and also apps/games support/availability.
If you're looking for good cam, good app/games support and doesn't mind the qwerty keyboard, then X10 is your answer?
If you want qwerty keyboard however, you still can consider Motorola Milestone (which look a lot like the N900 but with slighty bigger display yet it's much slimmer).
Both phone lacks of internal storage/memory and requires micro SD card.

N900 has 32GB internal storage (2GB reserved + 768 for Virtual Memory), and you can add micro SD up to 32GB!
It runs on Maemo5 OS, VERY open linux based OS, the possibilities are basically limitless and you have root access, you can do so much with this device. But because only N900 uses this OS and currently not much user... there aren't so much community support and also not so much app/games provided by those well known companies. The future is still uncertain for this, possibly it will BLOOM and become very great or possibly it'll only get most support from the Maemo community. Due to it's capabilities, many things are possible on the N900, they've done so much with this N900..... it's just launch in December 2009 and only in US and EU, but yet it's gaining lots of popularity.
Nonetheless, if you're looking for "open" OS or little or no restrictions, this is the device MUST get. Plus, you should check out N900's multitasking capabilities, in YouTube someone actually open up > 15 apps running.

By the way, in terms of OS design or user interface, you can check out both too as they're very different too. They both look very different. Maemo5 have more futuristic look (imo), nice progress bars, nice Media Player home, plus, you should really check out the Desktop (some call it Workspace) which is really unique. Then again, some prefer Android's OS design, very "robotic" feel?
