WTBF happened to me last night?
On Thursday I deadlifted with more reps than I'm used to. This is the second DL session after a long pause from DLs. The day after, I felt the customary soreness on the traps, the upper back and hamstrings. Nothing out of the ordinary. This is Friday, and I had a Sau Gong Chau dinner with colleagues, so I ate Pacific clams, steamed patin, sea cucumber, giant prawns, and downed 2 beers. I went to sleep at 2 a.m. only to awake in the middle of the night with extreme and intense pain in my upper back. I tried massaging myself there, but it was sore beyond description. Even a touch caused a grimace. I downed a paracetemol (Panadol) tablet and tried going back to sleep. Impossible. My upper back was like on fire. No position could give me any relief. I tossed around in bed, groaning in pain and swearing at myself for being stupid enough to DL as I did. At around 5 a.m. I took another Panadol. It did help, but with imperfect success. I still felt the burning pain around my shoulder blades. After a while, I drifted off into sleep. When I awoke this morning, I felt a general stiffness around my traps and upper back, but no pain. It was like last night never happened. What happened to me? This post has been edited by kotmj: Feb 6 2010, 06:26 PM |

I've never heard of anyone being this sore before. I've had my share of soreness, but last night was a different league.

QUOTE(yeah_guyz @ Feb 6 2010, 08:01 PM) sounds like a trigger point, try to find the refered pain guide, if the spot is tight and sores when u press it. massage it or get someone to apply force with elbow I'm now "massaging" myself with a wooden hammer-like tool I bought from Daiso. God, it's painful. Is pizzaboy in KL tomorrow?http://triggerpoints.net/ |

You should try a real timer like this. Makes workouts much more precise and pleasant.

QUOTE(angrydog @ Feb 20 2010, 03:44 PM) The problem with clocks is that they don't beep after so many minutes. I like to surf the internet between sets (I work out at home), and sometimes I get so absorbed I forget my 2 or 3 or 4 minutes is up. The irregular periods between sets make things less repeatable. This timer beeps until I press its button, which requires me to be at the power rack because that's where its attached to.Added on February 21, 2010, 3:50 am QUOTE(ken86 @ Feb 20 2010, 05:08 PM) angrydog - we have to be precise man... training is like conducting an experiment, miss the time by a split second , you miss that highly anabolic hypertrophy response by 200% If that is the sort of belief (as always, void of any plausible research) you want to hold on to, I'll certainly not dissuade you. You seem to do fine believing your own superstitions. But frankly, I find your attitude nauseating. This post has been edited by kotmj: Feb 21 2010, 03:54 AM |

QUOTE(pizzaboy @ Feb 21 2010, 04:18 PM) Here. Let me simplify the world of gaining weight for ectos in Malaysia. I like this.Half your plate has to be meat. The other half has to be a mix between veggies and rice. (We're talking Malaysia, so let's just be practical) Optimally, you'd want your plate to be half meat and half greens and potatoes, but if that's not possible, fine. Rice will have to do it then. In meat, it has to be 100% meat and not 80% bones like all the ridiculous zha-fan stores which serves all bones. Okay now repeat that six times a day, except the last 2 meals of the day where you cut out the carbs. Drink plenty of water to ensure your liver gets enough help processing the additional protein. And......yeah, you're set to gain some weight. Oh btw, deadlift, squat and press please. Added on February 21, 2010, 4:22 pmIt really isn't that difficult. The problem with people like you guys, is that you've got the internet. Now the internet, has wonderfully written articles by people that are millionaires from marketing, but NOT always from results. I've something called a coach that makes me train till my body aches from 2 weeks and yet I have to persistently train. At that level of intensity, all you care about is eating anything you see. And from that, I grew from 56-70KG in 3 months. From 70-80KG in an additional 9 months. And yes, my plate always looked like this. UR Asian. Asians have a slight difference in the genes that enables us to get away with high GI carbs. It's proven over and over again, that's why Angmohs turn into walking potatoes when they come to Asia. If you want a clearer picture, drop me a PM. I suppose one can eat less meat and substitute instead with whey. It's easier on the digestion. |

I went for a hardcore "urut tradisional" today. Done by a 50+ year old Indonesian woman who is married to a Malay. In her house in Gombak.
I paid RM60, but the session lasted no more than 20 minutes. But it was 20 minutes of exquisite pain. "Banyak angin, banyak angin," she kept saying, as I writhed in agony. I told her I work out in the gym, and as such have all sorts of soreness in my muscles. I asked her if she knew WTF a gym was, and she said her husband too "angkat besi" in a gym. When he stopped, she said, his tummy bloated out and he grew fat. She doesn't appear to me to stick to a standard procedure. She basically attacks all the parts that produce pain, working them over again and again, and give the unproblematic parts minimal attention. It was obvious she knew what she was doing, and from the way she rubbed you knew she did so with intent, instead of blindly working on them. This is no "wellness massage", the sort rich tai tais get themselves at Sri Hartamas with scented candles burning and relaxing music. This is therapeutic massage, and it is calculated to induce pain. She said the session was short because "ini tak boleh paksa", and that I may come back in 3 days if I wish for more. During the massage one is essentially naked, and she touches everything except the penis and the testicles (but she comes really, really close to them). I felt a little squirmish at the beginning. I feel so strange now. |

QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Feb 22 2010, 12:35 AM) lol... to be honest, the rate there isnt so expensive ... that is if u take up in a package... works up to be around rm60 for 1 full hour massage... RM60/hour is exactly what my colleagues go for in Sri Hartamas. The name of the place is Zen something. I asked one of the guys who went there how it was. "Nice," he said. I wasn't looking for nice.ps: i just couldnt understand why sri hartamas must always be related to the word "rich"... if u say desa hartamas and mont kiara, i do agree, but not sri hartamas.... since most of the residents there slaved through their lives to own that house starting from 20 years ago... just a thought, no flaming intentions Added on February 22, 2010, 12:59 am QUOTE(angrydog @ Feb 22 2010, 12:38 AM) I'll ignore this for now. All this eating has given me chronic bloating. It's one of the unfortunate downsides of strength training: Your metabolism is higher than most people, so you have to eat more than them. Especially the stupid milk. The pancreas isn't necessarily able to secrete sufficient enzymes to digest the food properly; mine doesn't do enough to stop the gasses in the small intestines.
So I looked around. And found the solution. It seems to work. |

Went to get myself a tub of whey at GNC. Man, these things keep getting cheaper! I think whey is their loss leader. They make up for it through health supplements. RM199.12 for a 5 lb tub. Because March is my birthday, I am entitled to 35% off of this if I buy a health (not sports) supplement at 35% off list price. So I took a small bottle of MEGA MEN multivitamin. The bill came up to RM189 something I think. Not bad!
Beginning April this year, the bonus points can be used to offset any bill. Before this, you can only redeem something with a value equal to or less than the bonus points. |

Nobody sells whey cheaper than GNC in Malaysia. |

There is some really bad reasoning in gtoforce's post.
And there is altogether far more (misinformed) opinion than experience on tongkat ali use on this forum. I happen to actually take it, unlike most here who talk about it passionately without ever having come close to it. It is the shit. Immediate effect, and at the dosage I take it lasts for the better part of the day. Can't live without it now, especially not after heavy deadlifts. |
