Wow. Champ gramps is in mighty fine shape. That bit with the calf raises just killed, so much better than a good portion of the--much younger--crowd in today's gym.
The audience looked bored as heck, though. |

QUOTE(cheezzzz @ Apr 15 2010, 05:07 PM) genetics is the only limiting factor. I think everyone can bulk up to about his size, genetics are for like the more extreme say u wana bodybuild and join competitions with uber bulging hulk like muscles. yea I am not going on the Hulk wayi mean, ur not aiming to be the best ma, just aiming to be bigger, im sure thats not a problem. just EAT EAT EAT, train and sleep. I get what you mean just like Arnold Schwarzenegger the great and Ronnie Coleman,Jay Cutler etc... these are born not made right ? |

oh yes, of course i mean if you would want to isolate your shoulder muscle as much as possible, true.
But for us beginners (hehe) it is important that we do standing military press as it also give some stress to other bodyparts such as lower back, quads our balance etc etc, so that they get stronger over time. same like Deadlift la for example. but me myself i prefer siting military press. there's much pro and cons la on this issue, depends on what you want to achieve. and yes totally agree that dumbell shoulder press is the best of all,. phewww... by just thinking about it makes me wanna do some shoulder press now... maybe tonight |

QUOTE(ReonLim83 @ Apr 15 2010, 06:45 PM) oh yes, of course i mean if you would want to isolate your shoulder muscle as much as possible, true. Then it's not called seated military press anymore. It's called a seated barbell press. What if I tell you that the deadlift isn't necessary for bodybuilding too? Not saying it's a useless exercise. It's ok, I deadlift once every few months but I can definitely hold more than my own against the powerlifters here. If you want to strengthen your lower back, you're trying to tell me that the military press should be done? The principle of specificity applies. Want to get bigger arms, do direct arm work. Want to get bigger shoulders, do direct shoulder work. Kinda simple isn't it? The problem with bodybuilding is that a lot of beginners tend to overanalyze too much. I suggest Bob Cicherillo's JFT program for bodybuilding. |

QUOTE(ReonLim83 @ Apr 15 2010, 10:31 PM) no no no, i think you misunderstood. im not saying to get stronger back you should do military press. You still don't get it. Strength is secondary to bodybuilders, period. We don't really give a flying f*ck about core. We don't give a damn about flexibility and balance. Tell you what, you keep doing your military presses, I get another trainee say John91 to do db shoulder presses and 2 of you compare deltoids in a few months time. you're right bigger arms = work your arm, bigger back = work your back i dont know how to put it in words but i know how it works in my head. i'm not arguing bro, im not saying you're wrong, im just saying Military Presses are definetely not useless, well maybe not as effectively as dumbell shoulder presses. but it helps you to gain strength on your overall body, your balances and your lower back. and of course deadlift is not necessary for bodybuildings. ton's of exercise that you can do to make your back grow without having to deadlift. but it can help you build strength faster than any other type of lift, btw whats your maximum weight for deadlift? You're arguing just for the sake of arguing. Fine, maybe USELESS is a bit too strong a word for military press but it's NOT the optimal exercise at all for bodybuilding purposes. Shall I give you the link to the EMG studies too? K, tell you what, you go post in the IFBB section at bb.com touting the military press. Tell me what happens. My max for deadlift is 135lbs. |
