Sorry if this is a daft question. I just registered on eBay to sell some stuff but a conversation with my aunt yesterday is turning me paranoid .

I was just wondering what sort of harm can come to you by giving out your personal handphone number and bank account number + name?

See I've been contacted by a few people in Mudah before with a few different scenarios :

1) Guy A emails me and asks about item B. I reply and he disappears.

I just assume nothing can happen...

2) Guy C is interested in item D. We have a long email conversation and then I give him my handphone number and bank account number. Then he disappears. He came back a few weeks later saying he went for a holiday and blablabla and requested my bank details again.

This is what I'm afraid of. Not that he disappears but that I gave him my bank details and number.

Scenario 2 actually happened around 3 times liao. Here on LowYat once and Mudah twice though email. I'm worried because the account is mine but it's under my mum's name. I'm under 18 so I can't transfer the name yet. Well, according to her...

So please. To those that are going to say do COD, I can only do it at one place currently, not everyday and not reliably so I just try to avoid it...

I think with your account number and name....nothing much they can do about it, only thing they can do is bacnk-in money to the account. If you worry about handphone number, bear in mind that everyone can get your number, and they can call to it, not receiving call, or sms, unless they got your simcard.

Nothing actually, unless they use your info to do a 3rd party scam.

@ foo0110 - Just read about them using your number and insisting you signed up for some mobile service. I'm not sure how much this happens though...

@ KiNo123 - What I'm afraid of is identity theft since it's not my name under the account.

@ 5w33 - . But if I'm totally innocent, they can get me involved?

I'm hoping more can share info since on eBay I just had to enter my bank acc name and number to put a listing (which failed due to my not owning a credit card . I'll fix that soon though).

I also don't like giving out my info and watching the potential buyer just vanish. That is FFK?
