Before any confusion, no games on the PS3 has its native resolution at 1920x1080. 1080p games on these are just usually software scaled.

Back on topic, you can add Batman to the list but there are several problems when the game is running in 1080p.
And yes, Dead Space is also 1080p.

Some games don't have 1080p written on its back, but yet it could go into 1080p. They are very few however.

Also: -

Flower
Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Pixel Junk Monsters (not sure on this one, need to re-check)

All these games can be scaled to 1080p.

Correction, most ps3 exclusive titles (if not all) are developed at 1080p in native scale. Most ps3 games however are 720p range, thus upscaling is used to achieve 1080p resolution. I suppose that is what you mean by software scale.

For most games, its native resolution is written at the back of the game box, but some users complaint that whats written at the back is untrue after trying out the games on their full HD tv.

There are a couple of PSN games however.... which are done in 1920x1080 though.
My mistake, not all games on the PS3 aren't done in 1080p natively.

But these games are only PSN games. Not retail.

I guess its all depends on your lcd monitor/tv and the viewing distance. Most game titles have no problem upscaling to full hd (provided it supports 1080), but there are cases where the image would look a little blur and less sharp on the edges.

For example Xbox360 games which are not native 1080, but upscaled using hardware mode....they do look very nice don't they? So a ps3 game with only 720p resolution would still look amazing regardless of upscaling or not.

Its all in the finer details.

I set my PS3 to output the native display, which usually are 720p. Looks better that way than upscaling it to 1080p, at least to me.

GTA4 is native 720p, actually its lesser than that.... google it.

If u are focusing only on gaming, i think 1080p LCD is not really needed... but for me, 1080p LCD is essential because i'm watching BD movies as much as playing games... icon_rolleyes.gif

If so, many of the games on the list isn't 1080p native.
I'm talking about the game's internal resolution, not after software scaling which is pulled up to 1920x1080 (or the other 1080 resolution that SOny provides).

For example, GTA IV's native res is only 1152x640.
It has support to scale up to 1080p. So well... I'm just saying, before any confusion... every retail game is not done (with the exception of WipeoutHD) in 1080p natively as its internal resolution.

And Dead Space has support for 1080p though. I can confirm that, since I just played that in 1080p a couple of days ago.

Call of Duty 4's native's resolution is at 600p smile.gif But its upscaled to 1080p as per written on the back of the box. Same goes for CoD5. True 1080p game is hard to find sweat.gif

Echochrome = 1920x1080 (2xAA)
Elefunk = 1920x1080 (4xAA)
Go Puzzle = 1920x1080

Locoroco Cocoreccho = 1920x1080 (2x AA)
Mainichi Issyo = 1440x1080 (4xAA)
Rocketmen = 1920x1080 (2xAA)

Give me a few days more to come up with a more reliable list then. Like I said, this kind of sources are pretty hard to find in the Net. Best method is to try the game itself.

From what SSJBen is saying, 1080p games are only available in PSN stores. I'd like to take your word for it, but I'll confirm if there are also BD games available made on 1080p.

Perhaps a better list could be made to also list down all the games in the order of its original resolutions, namely 720p and below as well.

Thanks for the input guys.

IINM, the PS3 software scaler only scales horizontally. Vertical is stretched, not scaled properly.

I'm not sure if that's true, but it might explain why some 1080p games are 1080 pixels vertically, but not horizontally.

If the price gap is RM200-300, 1080p is a more logical choice.

However, it would be plain stupid to sacrifice a good 720p TV to buy a cheap 1080p TV.

GT5 will probably be around the same as GT5P.

I've been doing 1080p tests for quite some time now.
Its unfortunate, but virtually.... there are no games on retail discs that is done in full 1920x1080 resolution.

The info is easy to find if you know where.
Beyond3D is the best place for this, lots of knowledgeable people there.

Ben,

There are games that have native 1080p...lots of them however (960x1080, 1280x1080, 1440x1080, 1600x1080 and etc) very few have 1920x1080.

The PS3, unlike 360 has only a horizontal scaling of front buffer resolutions. That means, PS3 GPU renders the game at only 960x1080 and it will be upscaled to 1980x1080 via hardware scaler. That is why I said PS3 got lots of 1080p games..but it's not 1920x1080... tongue.gif

But don't be surprised that there are many games not even 1280x720p!!!! See the full list further down.

since this thread wanted to know which games have native 1920x1080 resolution...Here are the few games...which have native, non upscaled 1920x1080 resolution.

There you go...not that many right...but why count the pixels..if it looks good that it don't matter. Uncharted and Killzone 2 looks great and it doesn't matter if the games is not 1080p right.

Oh and if u want's the full list of known games resolution...here they are..

I know.
Already said in my later post after that, quite a few PSN games are done in 1920x1080.

And I'm of course aware of games that are in a lesser horizontal resolution than 1920.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is also a PS2 game.... heck a DC game.
Its upscaled 1080p.

Same goes for Disgaea. 2D in 1080p.... but weird thing is that they don't even bother to increase the sprite count. laugh.gif

whew i thought there are only three games that are 1080p native, Wipeout HD, 1942: Joint Strike, and Gran Turismo 5. Because only in these games i can actually feel the difference between FULL HD / 1080p native and 720p / upscaled 1080p

Ghostbusters is rendered natively at around 640p (or some other sub-HD resolution).

You could force it to run in 1080p by disabling all other resolutions, but it will look like utter crap tongue.gif

RE5 = locked 720p.
R2 = I'm not so sure.
Shift = 720p, but I think you can force it into 1080p.
MGS4 = support for upscaled 1080p.

R2 is 720p but can be forced to run at 1080p without issues.

However, it will lose AA if forced to run at 1080p sad.gif

yo, sorry to bump old thread. Just for update

ninja gaiden sigma 2 supports true 1080p. not upscaled from 720p i suppose. Because normally all my games showed 720p in game but not this ngs2.

Nope, it supports upscaled 1080p. It can't even run properly in upscaled form, let alone native. So no, its not 1080p native.

The game looks considerably worst in 1080p than in 720p. More fremerate drops (although not enough to spoil gameplay) and more screen tearing.
It is meant to be played in 720p only.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
It is ironic how NGS2 is using the same engine as Sigma 1 but they couldn't reproduce the same quality of 1080p upscaling. rolleyes.gif

Ben,

There is one code in the game that actually takes up 3 SPUs to process in real time!...Even the X360 can't handle this code and it's only on the PS3 I might say.

The Wiggling Breast using the sixaxis. Only the PS3 can do it!!!!

For the lulz.... they have the time to do that but not the time to optimize their engine.

- No, not 1080p native. Never was never will be.

fifa10 is 720p
- Yes.

uncharted 2 is 1080p - i THINK so ... i cant remember
- Again no, never was never will be.

infamous - 720p
- Yes.

katamari - 1080p
- Upscaled 1080p.

fat princess - 1080p
- Upscaled 1080p.

None of those games are native 1080p.
Understand the meaning of native and upscaled, they're 2 different things.

1080p TV will be useful, as the next-gen of consoles might have 1080p as the standard.

FF13 - 720p native. (heck its 718p native.... lol)
Heavy Rain - 720p native.

I don't think we'll ever actually see a 1080p native (1920x1080 internal res) for games that are developed to the core players this generation.
There are a couple of PSN games that generally 1080p though.

For me I jus dun really bother whether it's 720p or 1080p...
No point in it running on 1080p but lagging or screen tearing.

As long as it looks and plays great, I'm fine wif it
I watch BD on my PS3 ok 2 get a FullHD TV
Aniwae, I think it will b awhile b4 we hav games tat run native 1080p

Some BDs I have are 1080i (Fallout 3 CE BD, for example)

Some games are 1080p, but I can't remember them.

Upscaled depends on whether your TV has a good scaler. If your TV has a good scaler, or you have a good dedicated scaler, then its best to let the TV/scaler handle the scaling.

Nah, so far AFAIK there are no retail games that are fully 1080P native (1920x1080). Gran Turismo 5 renders in 1920x1080 outside races without AA IIRC.

It's ok even if most of the games is in 720p. Unless your TV is more than 70", you may not see the quality degrading or whatsoever. Same with movies (I'm a pro HD movie downloader tongue.gif), there is not much difference between 720p & 1080p movies unless you have bigger TV.

Also most PS3 games have a auto-upscaled (didn't hear any complaints that you have to do manual upscaled yet). So, nothing to worry.

hmm old/new and maybe upcoming games are still in between the 420/720/1080 hd resolutions.i wonder why not just go for all coming new games with 1080??made me wonder.

but then again, if per say the console reads that tv can support 1080, but when you play a game that is 720, the console downgrades it right?

Because the PS3 isn't powerful enough for 1080p resolution, that's the cold hard fact.
As for your second question; no the TV upscales the 720p resolution to 1080p.

HDTVs now a days have really good internal scalers unlike 3 years ago, you'd hardly see the difference.
