I would have thought most offers would be out by second week of January.
*
so how was the vce result?.... smile.gif

for home students, offers comes out in the new year....

for international students, offers comes out the moment your results are released....and conditional offers become firm upon compliance with conditions of offer....

Ah....the fungus infested hospital....i presume all defects have been corrected, and it is now a fully functional hospital.....

i thought somebody is supposed to build a private hospital next to numed for clinical training?.....is that still on?.....

as a branch campus of newcastle, and if the degree is expected to be on par with newcastle uk, and recognised by gmc, it is expected that the programme should be exactly the same, and the selection and testing criteria should also be the same....

Added on December 18, 2011, 2:08 pmcyber, at least he has the right attitude of willingness to acknowledge his own shortcomings (noting his med school) and to work hard during the housemanship.....

you can apply anywhere for housemanship place, but the usual order is local citizen/pr intrastate, then interstate, then nz citizens, then only intrastate international students, then finally international students interstate.....

i think this is a transient blip, due to the states not planning fast enough to catch up with the increased output from a spat of new med schools within the last 10 years.....it will eventually catch up....

of course, it is wise to remember what happened in the late 80's and 90's.....when there was a 'surplus' of doctors and international students were barred from house jobs in oz......

isat score requirement varies with the uni.....some use it strictly (eg uq), some only to determine short list candidates, and some use it to balance (compensate) low atar candidates.....

generally, it would be safe if you have >80, and no component <60......

He's waiting for Monash, definitely. First round offers 10 Jan. Did your relative apply to Adelaide? Son only applied to Monash and UTAS.
*
not adelaide.....needs another pqa test, and at that time, it was a half hearted, 'might as well' kind of mode, medicine entered as one of the choices......

still waiting for monash, uq, unsw, uws.....not sure if it will matter at all.....should he choose to do something else....

in any case, oz is shutting down for christmas till the new year, son says no work is done today at all, having a pre-pre-christmas party at the office.....tonight is going to be the mother of all friday happy hour reveries... biggrin.gif

Just had lunch with a friend who is back from Sydney for the holidays. He was surprised about the lack of internship placements, as australia is still facing doctor shortage. He added that the medical system is being centralised, and will no longer be "state-controlled".
*
medicare is already a federal reimbursement system, so the provision of health care is already centralised....

however, manpower planning, registeration and employment of medical personnel is still state controlled....but that will slowly become centralised....education remain firmly state based (hence the myriad systems!)....but a national syllabus is on the way (with much debate and unhappiness!)....

the individual states and territories have considerable autonomy, as the original federation of the individual territories of oz into the commonwealth of australia 100 years ago envisage a loose federation.....and individual states do not like to give up power to the central government.....

the ahpra came into existence last year.....the first time there is a national body governing medical personnel.....previously one has to register with each individual state medical boards to licence, and interstate employment means going through the process of re-registering with another state board......even under the new framework, each state based ahpra office has considerable state based autonomy....ie acts like the old state registration board....

QUOTE(tqeh @ Dec 24 2011, 07:28 AM)
just a correction, nz citizens are considered local citizens so the differentiating factor is the graduating state, i.e. a NZ citizen studying in WA will be given first priority in WA (same as a Aus citizen studying in WA), while a Aus citizen studying in SA and a NZ citizen studying in NZ will be given the same priority (priority 2) when they apply for internship placements in WA.

Hence, the trans-TASMAN brain drain.
noted...

i find it interesting, this relationship the two countries have....

nz citizens have right of abode in oz. and vice versa.....

however, while oz pr have right to also pr in nz, the reverse is not true.....kiwi prs cannot claim pr in oz.....

Uni of Liverpool conducting their interview same weekend, in KL, and applicants from Singapore will go to KL.

i see you have taken cognizance of my comments about lower cost med education in some uk unis like liverpool..... biggrin.gif

just a question...will paying 50% more fees in monash over utas be considered worthwhile?.....

98,5 rejected!! 99.15 may not cut it too then! Have to get psyched up for Tassie!
*
If you read the aussie med student forum, csp are needing umat above 90% and atar above 99.5............

For internationals, it will be lower depending on the cohort of students applying......obviously, it will be a skewed specimen, some scholarship students (msia n maybe some other countries) and then mostly rich families all over the world.....atar above oo and isat above 90 should get an offer......

Compare that with people wanting to do foundation because its easier than matrik......
