If you check the IMED web site, MMMC's degree is actually listed as a Malaysian degree, not an Indian degree.

So pls get your facts right before posting. thx.  doh.gif

aimst initially showed a lot of promise, but i guess that model is not sustainable in the long run........

unfortunately quite a few new med schools are based on that model as well....so destined to fail as well......

the 'natural' model is based on a med school build round hospitals in a region, catering to a large local population, and staffed by a mixture of academic and service lecturers, all of whom are active clinicians, providing a full range of services....

ie students learn from real life examples, taught by real life doctors.....not from text books, taught by non-practising doctors, in district hospitals with only basic services and zero tertiary care on site...........

like i said many times, this is a political decision, and have little to do with maintaining standards......

if it is really about standards, the selection policy into ipta will need to be examined as well, and many ipta and ipts will need major revamp of their selection, training and assessment process..........

Well, there is currently one such college which is recognised by the MMC, which is MMMC. So judging from your comment: "strangely, while not recognised in india, they are recognised in other countries......like msia.", you are clearing talking about MMMC.

If you can, pls list one more institute offering twinning with India and is recognized by MMC.  rolleyes.gif

eh.....i was actually thinking about msu and their arrangement with sri ms ramaiah in bangalore........the arrangement is actually with gokula education foundation, and appears to be a separate programme from their own local indian programme..........i would think the msu stream will not be recognised by india, as it is over and above the 150 places approved by the gov of india........

in addition, masterskill is also twinned with india, but details are sketchy about who and how.......it is likely they are doing the same as msu, ie buying an off the rack clinical programme, over and above what is approved by the indian authorities, and thus not recognised in india.......

but now that you mention it, yes, the mmmc/manipal also has this peculiarity, and now i recall in 2008, there was a transient de-recognition of kmc-manipal and mangalore........

btw, it appears india also faces the same problem as msia.......found this: http://www.successcds.net/Articles/MBBS-IN-CHINA.htm

it appears the russians cheated them in the 90's before moving on to msians...... biggrin.gif

Don't tell me if the 3 year old child with the 90/60 BP consider normal....I'm not talking about what common condition will be found in a 3 years old kid....In general...even if a kids with 140/90 of blood pressure it should be considered as hypertension....

Btw, the blood pressure is affected by multi-factors...BMI,endocrinological disorder and so on....but the age shouldn't be the main concern for the blood pressure but it does play the role in reflecting the common conditon of that particular age group....By looking at the age it's not enough for you to exclude any possibilities...That's why my answer is so general....

i suggest you go back to your books again, before giving out wrong information here.......

really makes me more doubtful about what the hell cucms is teaching......... shocking.gif

it is probably that they are already full in these coursers, and thus not open for applications any more........

they are trying to diversify into other courses, which are obviously NOT that popular (no surprise, why go to a ulu god forsaken place to do business or nursing???)...........hence the need to advertise.......

uk med schools have a differential system of fees, (which is more honest, and reflect the actual cost of the actual academic programme), where the 1st 2 pre-clinical years are charged like any other lecture/lab based programme, and the 3 clinical years then charged higher as reflecting the change in teaching........that's what optiplex means, as the averaging out for the 5 years will come also to about 90-100k pounds........

as for living cost, some smaller towns in uk is not much more than kl.......and you also have the option, at least in the 1st 2 years, of doing some part time job to help with expenses........

similarly, those who partner to uk from imu have little savings from the fees.........

for that kind of money, why not go straight to uk?........(i know, it's much more troublesome applying direct, and they may likely not recognise a- as equivalent to a levels a)

the status of the newcastle msian mbbs is unknown at the moment, as far as uk and other country recognition is concerned........spore will likely not recognise it, on their 'clinical years in home country' requirement........

if you are eventually restricted to just working in msia, i would not bother spending so much money, just go to any one of the ipts med schools........in msia, it matter little the kind of training you receive.....

A bunch of my friends are called Dr. already, 1984 and 1985. Completed housemanship. Damn fast when you go overseas to study, no bond also.
*
that is average......they are now 26, 27..........the average age of a newly graduated doctor in the commonwealth system is 24-25.........it's the same for msia as well........

Added on March 26, 2011, 8:56 amfull fees at the usual english speaking commonwealth countries have gone up to the actual cost, and plus as well........older forumers may remember the old days when the fees were still subsidised, and how it gradually creep up to present levels.......

it is thus unlikely they will go up significantly any more, except for the inflation adjustments....

in spite of such high fees, there are no shortage of international students applying, sometimes 10 times the actual number of places available.....

at the rate of increase in msian ipts fees, some may not be worth it any more, and one might as well go straight to uk med schools, some of which are 'affordable' at current exchange rates........note that the learning experience in a uk nhs trust hospital is very different from most local hospitals......

Disagree. I was comparing big tasty apples to normal apples. Msian grad still completing their housemanship as of now; not even counting the bond.
*
what 'bond' are you talking about?....

there will always be 1-2 years difference, in any cohort in any country, depending on one's pathway......

eg, matrik students will graduate 1 year younger than stpm students.....

monash/newcastle/utas students will graduate 1 year faster than other undergraduate entry med schools......(5 vs 6 year course)..........

Msian docs need to serve minimum of years. You know this right?
*
that is not a 'bond'.........

it is called compulsory service, and is currently 2 years.......

it applies to all doctors, irrespective of where you graduate from..........so those who studied elsewhere, if you have done a recognised housemanship, when/if you return to msia, you will be exempt from housemanship here, but you will still need to do the compulsory service..........

there are exemptions now, for senior doctors......you can check with the mmc website as to what the conditions for exemption are.........

in the near future, it is foreseeable that this compulsory may be abolished, when there become a surplus of doctors i the public sector........i expect this to happen within the next 10 years........

not really......smile.gif

more doctors will be trained in indonesia........

if you are aware of the standard and quality of healthcare in indonesia, you may start to feel fearful now....

there is a good reason why so many indonesians go out to spore/penang/malacca/kuching for medical treatment.......

At least you know that you are getting quality medical care.                                            But for some reason in the local context you have an 'Egyptian' feeling, then you have much to worry!
*
darknite is referring to the number of indonesian patients in some private hopsitals.....not the doctors working there........

the current crop of senior doctors in msia are mostly still well trained ones from good universities, many from uk/oz.....which is why the indons are coming.....this will change over the next 20 years........

QUOTE(zstan @ Mar 29 2011, 09:33 AM)
Oh wow. Just found out that monash Sunway mbbs gaduates can work at Australia. NO need take extra exams. biggrin.gif
*
this is not new........the mbbs monash msia degree had amc recognition right from the beginning........certainly they use it as a selling point........

what most people don't realise however, is that the right to work in oz is not determined by your qualification, but by your status with the dept of immigration and citizenship.......as a foreigner, you need to have an appropriate visa to work........and the problem is then, for monash msia grads to be eligible for theses visas......

onshore australian graduates will be eligible for one of two categories of work visa.....and once they get a housemanship offer (ie placed) they WILL get the visas, by virtue of having studied in oz for at least 2 years........

monash msia graduates do NOT have this right.........

look carefully at the prospectus, and website......in small prints, they say they do not guarantee availability of housemanship jobs, anywhere......

i heard some msia grads have gone to work in oz......i am not sure how they did that, some could already have been oz pr..............in which case, of course it's not an issue......

Eventhough it seems like they dont have this right for working visa - they will still get the 457 visa eventually coz once they are matched, the hospital HR will sponsor them for one - not too difficult, i dont think there's a case where visa is an issue (very unlike the UK).
457 is the other category of visa for housemans....it's actually a sponsored temporary business visa......

yes 'business'...!

key is sponsored, so you will still need to get a placement.......

onshore grads can use the 485........

in a bad year, that may get you into imu......but lately i think not possible....

it will get you into pmc 6 years programme.......

it will get you into most of the upstart med schools like mahsa, cucms etc.......

any of the above is considered 'well respected'?....... smile.gif

Maybe also can sneak into Perdana University (Irish programme) and Newcastle Johor.......if you consider them to be "well respected".
*
i have a low opinion of irish med schools arrangements, due to their low intake requirements......they are obviously out to make money only....as they know that few, if any, graduates will go to ireland to work........

newcastle, cannot get in lah, if they stick to their 3a's policy.......of course, the reality of msian education system might have hit them, they may have realised that they cannot get enough good students at the fees they want, and will have to lower the cut off to net the rich mediocre students........
