Never compare prime with zoom because prime lens will always sharper.
Am using prime lenses since last year. never a fan of zoom lens.

Forget abour 35mm f/1.8
Get at least 85mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.4G smile.gif

85mm f/1.8 = RM 1.3xx
85mm f/1.4 = RM 3.8xx
50mm f/1.4G = RM 1,8xx
50mm f/1.4D = RM 9xx

f/2 sharp even at f2.
f/1.8 is kinda lame. For d40/d60/d5000/d3000 user ok la. But for D90 user, get 35mm f/2 instead. You won't regret !!
