hi,

i'm thinking of buying a HTib 5.1 speaker system for budget below 1.5-1k. must be compatible with media players e.g. wdtc/playon!hd etc.

any recommendation would be helpful.

planning to buy a plasma soon. cheers.

HTib has limited features...if you get yourself a media player, better to go 'DVDless'. I've not touched my DVD players since I owned a media player....but if you insist on DVD, some media player even supports an external DVD drive through USB smile.gif

I would recommend Hifi Systems rather than HTiB
Example like Sony HT-DDW3000, Pioneer HTP705 etc.
If you go to electrical shop they also have packages like marantz amp with roger speakers etc.
Do check around first, and do some homework on the connectivity, features and latest models.

Sound wise, Hifi systems with those 10inch Subs sound definitely better than Htib systems with puny 6.5inch woofers....no matter how fancy the sub box looks smile.gif
budget HTib also have limited mid to high range due to the amp can only pump out not much.
If you hall is small and have fussy neighbors, then I recommend HTib.

As for the Plasma...Panny S10 42inch looks mighty impressive for its FullHD features and subRM4000 price tag.
Also, do scout around for the best price and never get anything below 42inch for best visual impact.

Hi bro,

If you are planning to get a panny plasma tv, then I suggest you get a panny HTIB.

You can take advantage of the Viera Link connection between your TV and HT.

One controller to control both TV and HT.

Need some advice on HTiB.

Now eyeing on Pioneer, but if i check for the spec, from HTZ 170DVD till HTZ 777DVD all having the same watts on speaker, which is 60 RMS per speaker. So can I assume the sound quality are same, just design differently?

On the other hand, I also looking for Pioneer EV70DVD, due to 100 watts per speaker, logically should be sound nicer.
But it should be miss out the HDIM port, if use this unit & compare to HTZ series to FHD panel can it be much different on picture quality? I mean based on DVD, not Bluray.

If the price more than 1.5k, then is not worth to take HTiB. Or maybe some shi fu got better recommendation?

What ever it is...never buy Panasonic HTiB...it doesn't support DTS using opticals.

Any Pioneer HTZ expert here to comment?

Another question, If I use the same source, DVD9(7.5GB+) from a dvd player thru component, progresive scan to FHD panel, compare to use a dvd player with HDMI playing the same dics, does it show any different? Note: My source still the same dvd9, not blu-ray yet.

I know if blu-ray, sure HDMI doing the good job, but just dvd, does the HDMI thingy make any different?

You can check Sony HTib for RM2000. The drawback is you need to set your PS3 to LPCM but at least you can still get HD audio. Not able to accept bitstream though.

HT SF-360
