I tried looking a few weeks ago and all the ones available were either a) ridiculously overbuilt and overpriced (e.g., in thousands of RM) or b) ridiculously crappy. As far as I know, there aren't any Omron sellers in KL, so you're probably better off taking a day trip down to Singapore to buy one.

Alternately, if you don't mind your pedometer being totally inaccurate (and falling apart after a few days) you might want to consider the cheapass Fitness Concept-branded pedometers.

Yeah, & it's quite cheap too. In Watson I believe, they're selling their brand for like RM9.90.

This is so awesome. Even pokemon trainers will be motivated to walk to a healthier lifestyle now.

Nintendo DS

On May 26, 2009, Nintendo released Personal Trainer: Walking, which included two pedometers. It connects via infrared connection and all you have to do is carry the pedometer instead of carrying the Nintendo DS. A day on the "game" is from 3AM to 2AM.

On September 12 2009, Nintendo and Game Freak will release "Pokemon: Heart Gold" and "Pokemon: Soul Silver" in Japan. The games will be bundled with one pedometer (called "PokeWalker") each. As with the "Personal Traniner: Walking" game, the pedometer transmits data to and from the Nintendo DS system via Infrared. Players can transfer one Pokemon from their game to the Pokewalker and walk to earn experience points for the pokemon and in-game currency.

Both Watson & Guardian does sell, but not all their retailers sell it just some of them. What they sell in Penang is Omron HJ-113, the price according to Watson (Raya Sales) RM94 while Guardian the price is RM137 I believe.

For those who wish to instead get from Omron's Malaysia distributor the info is below or visit their estore http://estore.kinsmedic.com.my/shop/pc/viewcategories.asp

Distributor
Company Name: Kinsmedic Sdn Bhd
Address:
9th Floor, Wisma Fiamma,

Omron HJ-113 has 7 day memory not bad, there is a slightly more expensive model called HJ-720ITC (Europe: HJ-720IT-E2) which not only keeps data for 41 days in its memory it has ability to upload your data to pc and using Omron software you can track your progress easily. Problem is I don't see it listed in either Kinsmedic or Omron Singapore site. So far I couldn't find it in any shops sad.gif

I have no idea how good they are as pedometers, but the new Nike+ Sportsbands might be of interest. They're about 290 RM at most Nike stores.

Its confirmed Omron HJ-720 models (which has been around for few years) is still not available locally since Omron AP did not bring it into our region. Too bad really I would love to upload the data into pc to see monthly progress etc.

HJ-113
Advanced Technology
Dual Sensor Technology allows the pedometer to count steps in multiple positions. For the first time, you can place the pedometer in your pocket, purse, briefcase, or clip at your waist while walking. You will get the same accurate reading.

Attain Your Weight Loss Quicker
The Omron Pedometer counts total steps, aerobic steps, duration of aerobic walk, calories consumed by walking and distance. 7-Day memory tracks your daily progress.

The Aerobic Step Counter
Aerobic steps means burning more calories, resulting in faster weight loss. In addition, aerobic steps can improve your cardiovascular endurance. The Omron Pedometer tracks aerobic steps separately, making it easier to attain your goals. Aerobic steps start counting after 10 minutes of continuous walking or running.

Tech Specs
Manufacturer Omron Corporation
Manufacturer Part Number HJ-113

# Counts Steps & Aerobic Steps
# Displays duration of aerobic walk
# Displays distance walked
# Counts amount of calories and body fat burnt
# 7-day memory
# Time display

As long as you add details like your weight, step length etc, most details it should calculate for you. The minor issue is it starts calculating once you put in the battery and input your details, so if you keep it whole day it will continue counting which you need to deduct when you start jogging to get the distance you covered. For distance they calculate is based on the length of stride(step) you input so accuracy depends on how accurate you input length of your stride(step). Everything will be automatically reset at 12am.

More details on HJ-720 models, seems that Omron Asia will not cover for its warranty for those buying it in Asia Pacific region we can't buy this online from Amazon either!

The best I have used is - Adidad Micoach. Complete with heart rate monitor, pedometer, pacer and an online coaching system for your individual training needs. RRP519 i think.

Been using it for a while, wish I have bought it earlier.

If you have a smartphone with GPS chip, there's likely an app which can do this for you. I'm using Sports Tracker on my Nokia 5800 which can track the distance, speed, overall speed, etc of my runs. Now smartphones with GPS chips cost few hundred ringgit only, so maybe you can consider.

timex brand is so-so only with pedometer watch

better alternative are MIO watches (featured in Dr. Phil), polar watch, beurer n suunto

all smartphone hv GPS n gyrometer which can act as pedometer (need to install apps such as cardio trainer- android)

If you don't mind carrying handphone while doing your exercise, few sony ericsson models have Walk Meter function built-in, it is designed to compute how much CO2 you saved. Maybe there are java app that will calculate the calories burned.

This device is great in counting steps. There are plenty in the market, wide range of prices. Some are purposed built for certain activity like jogging. Great device to have to keep track your exercise progress. Myself using one from Nike
