Agreed, the buyer didn't protect himself well in this purchase and basically the seller took full advantage and manipulated him all the way. I have never heard of renting at half the market rate (if there is such a rule I would sell my house now and get back my cash then rent for 1/2 price for another 2 yrs while waiting for my new house to be completed).
