Woot... was about to post this but I guess you're almost an hour faster. Anyway, thanks for sharing such a great news again!

But it pissed off loyal customer, because Fallout was among the first game that they bought 3 years ago. I guess you can't give too many free stuff as you might risk losing your loyal customer. This is valuable lesson to me or anybody who like to venture in business world.

On another hand.. since the inception of GOG Community Gifting thread, there's an increasing number of freeloaders there. It's not secret some people just lurking around the forum to snatch free codes without any intention of participating in the discussions, not even left a "thank you", worst not even interested on the site, unregistered and have no interest on the games that's being offered there. It's different story for user made contest, because you actually have to participate.

I don't want to sound hypocritical but i can't really stand the same people keep begging for games, when they were gifted plenty of time before but few days later coming back when there's new release or promo. Or put a double meaning post hoping for somebody to gift them games. I think some people really abuse the generosity of GOG community, because unlike Steam forum, there's very minimum amount of trading activity. People just give their stuff for free if they have no plan on playing / use them. I've seen people give away copy of GTAIV, Episode from Liberty City, LA Noire, Witcher 2, Serious Sam BFE and plenty of AAA title. It's nice to see people sharing their stuff but it introduce more freeloader.

Amanita Designs created a new game, Botanicula. GOG.com (and GamersGate I gather) have had it up for pre-order for a standard "normal" price for about a month. Today's its release date. And it's immediately in a new Humble Bundle for pay-what-you-want, ALSO bundled with their previous games (which are sold separately in GOG/GG -- since the same time about a month ago), and also with extras like full soundtrack, etc, with the Humble, not available to those who pre-ordered with GOG/GG.

To think that, GOG put this game in one of their conference before the site re-launch a month ago, in conjunction with The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition. What an opportunist move by Amanita. They got the publicity they wanted.

Ouch... what a bummer.

The decision by Amanita to put out the stunning Botanicula as part of a Humble Bundle on the day of release sounds, at first, like a lovely idea. A brand new game in a pay what you want bundle? Amazing! Except of course for those who pre-ordered it at full price. Personally, I think the $10 it would have cost anyone is a bargain for a game as utterly lovely as this, and people who pre-ordered clearly believed it to be worth that much to them at the time. But I do understand the frustration of learning that others could be getting the game, along with two other Amanita classics, for as little as one cent. That’s galling. I caught up with Amanita’s main man, Jakub Dvorský, to ask him about the reaction, and he informs me that it was their mistake, and to make up for it everybody who pre-ordered the game will be receiving the fantastic soundtrack, an art book, and a copy of Machinarium, for free, tomorrow.


“There was definitely no intention to rob anyone or anything like that,” explains Dvorský, apologetic about the response. Everyone who pre-ordered on GOG.com and GamersGate, he tells us, will receive the full soundtrack, art book and Machinarium tomorrow, “as an apology.”

Hopefully the offer of another game, the art book, and the genuinely great soundtrack (I’ve listened through rather a lot of times) will make up for people’s disappointment. But obviously some will remain frustrated that it wasn’t thought through properly. And it does seem odd that the two sites that took pre-orders, GamersGate and GOG.com, seem to have not known about the Bundle in advance.

Meanwhile, the Bundle has already sold over 21,000 copies in just six hours, with an extraordinarily high average price of $8.67 at the time of writing. It’s getting expensive to unlock Kooky and Windosill! That’s over $184,000 split between the developer, the World Land Trust, and Humble. And the second highest donor so far? Er, apparently GOG.com, with $300. If that’s really them, what an extraordinary way to respond to their getting a touch messed with.
