BioWare Guy Begins Campaign For Wing Commander Re-Release

user posted image
QUOTE
BioWare's Paul Barnett, a man with a keen sense of history, realised this week that Wing Commander is now 20 years old. So he, like the rest of us, wants a re-release.

So he's kicked off a campaign to have the game ported over to DOSBox, a means of running old PC games on new hardware.

Normally we don't bother publicising these kind of things, but since Barnett works for EA, the company which owns the Wing Commander rights, this isn't your average internet petition, as it's as likely to be a sneaky marketing campaign as it is a genuine crusade in the name of all that is good in the world.

Still, even if it is a marketing campaign...I don't care if it's sneaky enough to steal the socks off my feet in the dead of night if it means I get to play Wing Commander again without screwing around.

Beyond Good & Evil Getting HD Re-Release
Beyond Good & Evil, one of the best (and yet under-appreciated) games of the previous hardware generation, is to receive a well-deserved re-release in high definition, Ubisoft has revealed.

It won't just be a quick and dirty cash-in, though; level textures and character models are being improved, it'll run at 1080p and the game's score is also being improved.

Beyond Good & Evil HD will be released on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation network sometime in 2011.

If you've never played the original, which was released in 2003, think Zelda (with its dungeons and action/RPG mannerisms) with a little Metroid/Dead Rising (scanning/photography) thrown in for good measure.

Why not on PC?

Contest Week Day 2

Looking at all the answers that came for the first contest after only one day, it looks like there's going to be some nice competition for the whole GOG catalogue. Thanks, we're glad you like the idea! Now it's time for Day 2 in our "Contest Week" and the second contest: "Name the GOGmix" - credits go to shadi.lahham, the originator of the competition. We've created a secret GOGmix without a title. Your task is to come up with a crazy, funny, interesting, creative (or all the above at the same time) title for this GOGmix and send it to users@gog.com with a very short explanation until Monday, October 11 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

From all entries we will pick 3 propositions from which:
the winner will receive all Ubisoft games released on GOG
1st runner up will receive the games from Apogee catalogue
2nd runner up, thanks to our friends at PC Gamer, will receive a PC Gamer UK subscription.

We're counting on your wit and creativity smile.gif Good luck!

Contest Week Day 3

As promised, it's time for another contest. This time it might be hard as we're testing your good old gaming knowledge. We've prepared a crossword puzzle (also attached to this post) where the answers we're looking for concern games you can find in GOG's catalogue. If you think you got all the answers (or as many as you can get) send the list of words from the crossword to users@gog.com until Tuesday, October 12 11:59 p.m. EDT.

From all correct entries we will pick 3 winners:
the winner will receive Strategy First catalogue
1st runner up will receive the games from TopWare catalogue
2nd runner up, thanks to our friends at PC Gamer, will receive a PC Gamer UK subscription.

Ready, set, go!

Same here, don't really wanna deal with physical DVDs anymore.

Probably better off just downloading and keeping most of my games in HDD.
