it seems maemo natively support AAC (http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/specifications/)
perhaps u can try install the "Extra Decoders Support" from extras-devel? it might give you more options, though a check from the description it mention nothing about AAC
Turns out that it puts .mp4 files into the video list. Renamed them to .m4a and it's put in music list now
So what did i eliminate: The hardware is OK, Firmware is a ?, do the regional settings play a role, since Malaysia is not available in my options? Is there something in my maxis subscription that makes the card invalid in the N900 only...
Have you set the correct APN for your Maxis service? Settings -> Internet connections -> Connections -> Cellular data -> Next -> Access point name
The N900 may be a very powerful device, but honestly, it's not as easy to use as Nokia Symbian phones, and the contacts and calling function is very basic.
Hmm what are you expecting out of the contact list? I find it pretty awesome - like the fact that you can link it with all the IM accounts, and get a history out pretty quickly.
Of course it's awesome for what it has to offer, just like the "Conversations", but I also have to admit and accept it's flaws/weakness. I've been a long time Symbian user, you can group contacts, you can add additional custom details, you can assign ringing tones to individual contacts as well as to contact groups, you can send SMS blast to your contact groups, etc. Personally, I find in terms of phone functionality, this phone lacks it, but it's not really a big factor for me; but to someone else, it might.
There're actually a lot of applications which is under testing or devel stage. You can enable them in your "App Manager". There're tons of apps you can download from there.
WARNING - beware that when you install apps from testing or devel, they may screw your phone up.
I did the update OTA, as it began it popped up "Operation failed" but kept going anyway. After it restarted, it couldn't boot past the video LOL. So yeah, panic moment because I didn't bother making the backup.
Luckily though I didn't lose much after reflashing, as I later learned that the app settings/contacts/etc were intact on the 2GB partition, whereas I only flashed the 256MB partition (I suspect that is what NSU did for you too). I only had to reinstall apps and reconfigure my desktop. Which is a big relief, I couldn't ask for more really
Yeah the installer's slow mainly because you can't batch install stuff. If you wanted to do it the quick and dirty way you could just open up a shell and apt-get install -y all the packages, but I'm not sure if this is recommended.
Looking at the PR1.1.1 release it looks like the only tangible improvement for me is that Australia's a selectable region now. Definitely not worth all that drama
I read from maemo-talk.org, the OTA is just minor updates and everything should be still intact, and there is like 2 restart required (auto). You have to reinstall apps and reconfigure desktop too? Mmmm... next time I have to becareful already, hehe.
I had to reinstall apps etc because I reflashed the phone after the OTA upgrade bricked it.
