I am getting a N900 to trial hopefully tomorrow. Received an offer from WOMWorld Nokia to trial the device last month and it was shipped out from UK on November 27th. Reached Malaysia - Kuching on 30th November and stuck at customs clearance ever since due to few problems. I'm still sorting it out, hoping to get my hands on it tomorrow and write a review for this beautiful beast.

I have written some posts on my blog:

Would you want to trial an N900? Hell yeah! - How I got the offer to trial N900

N900, almost there! N900, almost there! - How it got stuck at customs and my dealing with custom officers

Looking forward to get it and share with the experience with the rest of Lowyatians! Wish me luck! wink.gif

Nice to know fellow Sarawakian get a hold of it and hell yeah the customs here really troublesome and u have to pay so much for a LOAN review handphone. dude i think u better ask WOMWorld to bear it all since they are the one who ask u to review it.

Apperently someone have Imported over the N900 and he's selling it at ebay -> N900

I finally get the N900 icon_idea.gif After much negotiations, I got it without paying the penalty. Well I was lectured by the customs officer for quite a while.. for the offense, why he did what he did etc. Guess I was just lucky!

I wrote a little teaser here : N900, just a little teaser

I'm still busy running around, I will do a proper review after I get the chance to sit down and talk dirty to the sexy beast brows.gif

Lagging and hang?

I don't experience any lagging even when I'm opening 7-8 applications. Listening to music, surfing, IM-ing, downloading torrents (yes, I downloaded the whole Ingluerious Basterds movie using N900). Hang, well I experienced it 2-3 times but not an often occurrence. It's basically a mini computer, so expect such 'inconvenience' every now and then.

The only (some) complaints I have is the battery life, and the lack of functions embedded to the phone book ((when it's in the portrait mode) - cannot directly sms, send stuff from the contact book but need to use other apps/go to 'conversations' mode to do so. ). Battery life with heavy usage can only last around 6-8 hours, but with moderate usage can last up to 1 day.

Other than that, the other 'weaknesses' I believe can be solved (if necessary) with installing 3rd party applications or firmware updates in the future. MMS, video call etc. Why need MMS when you can share through Twitter, Facebook, email directly? The sharing options can be expanded by installing certain plugins, just like how the original N900 only come with Skype and Gtalk accounts setup, which then can be expanded to include Yahoo, Hotmail etc, Ovi etc.

Play around with the Application Manager and include the 'Extras-Testing' repository or if you're adventurous (ehem) enough, include also the 'Extras-Devel' repository. You will get access to plenty of awesome applications. Image editor, IRC clients, bittorrent client, IM clients, Converter, Codecs, you name it wink.gif

A little summary

Advantages:

Open source, limitless possibilities for functions with 3rd party apps available.. Great multitasking device. Great social media device - Skype, Facebook, Chat and Sharing tools integrated with device, Awesome movie playing experience - wide screen, crisp display thanks to the 267 ppi screen, super awesome browsing experience - browser is just... AWESOME. Anything regarding connectivity - N900 is the monster. Sniffing wifi points side by side with my other Wifi phones, this beast can do a better job. Good resistive touch screen, responsive and near no lag when running few apps. Slightly lag when running more than 8 applications, especially those with images, sounds, videos.

Disadvantages.

Battery life not up to expectation for such device, Landscape bias (most functions, jobs must be done in Landscape mode), Lousy camera functions - only basic options available, what a waste for a 5MP cam, average built in/default photo/image editor - can use 3rd party app to overcome. Not intuitive enough for first time user but after a while you get the hang of it. Cannot perform 'service commands'. Found out this when tried to reload Digi prepaid on it lol. Was switching between Celcom and Digi on the phone, since Celcom connection sucks at my housing area.

I am in the midst of summing up the review. Am really busy with work, friends and no time to sit down and to a proper review yet. But if you have any question regarding N900, feel free to ask. I will try to answer brows.gif
