Hi N900 users/ gurus,

Your in depth discussion is indeed very insightful wink.gif

I have a lay person's questions to post to ya'll

Should i wait for this phone to be officially launched in Msia, or should i get an AP version now?

What would be the main difference if i were to get it now? Software/firmware differences as AP is imported from other countries, and the official device would be customized for our country's use?

Sorry if my question is noobish, hope ya'll bear with me notworthy.gif thx

N900 is official on Nokia Malaysia site already.

I guess it's going to launch soon probably same month as Motorola Milestone.

YeS!!! i have been waiting so eagerly for the official launch! rclxms.gif

I hope it happens in early March!

Do you guys think the RRP for the N900 will be pricier than the RRP for N97? N97 is already RM2300-2400 if i'm not mistaken...

Added on February 23, 2010, 9:03 pmCalled Nokia up, the stock will arrive in the first week of March. They can't comment on pricing yet.

Can't wait to get my hands on this babeh! drool.gif

good news

well now new ORI N97 mini is RM17xx only~ same goes to N97 ori as well i guess

while AP for N97 and mini is RM14xx~
since this is high end phone for nokia (not that high end to me actually because limitation of processor and touchscreen type) so i guess the price will be RM2500 and above, hopefully i am wrong
*
Hmm, curious to know what high end phone suits ur taste then? the google nexus one?

Well, between an iPhone and this, i would choose this, cuz i like a combination of a touchscreen + qwerty keypad. Though this may not be as slim and light as the iPhone, the processor is the same processor used in the iPhone 3GS. And the memory is expandable to an additional 16GB smile.gif Plus it's MAEMO, not Symbian~

Just my 2 cents

in start intech today said the phone will be launched here in the first quarter..that means by next month..april already starts 2nd quarter right?

i wonder how much will it be priced.
*
Now is already approaching the end of the 1Q (end March). Yup 2Q starts on April...

Called Nokia up and they said first week of March will be the phone launch. They declined to comment on price

I hope the price won't be more than RM2300, cuz that's all i've budgeted for the phone sweat.gif

i bought the phone magazine today ,it notes N900 ORI RM2,599 AP RM2,100 !!

2600 for ori????

which phone mag is that?

Gosh..it is so expensive... blink.gif

If it is above RM2500, i might give this phone a miss. After all, It was released in November 2008, and we're only getting it now. Almost 5 months (half a year later). And besides, Maemo 5 may become obsolete fast, with Intel and nokia merging to come out with the new OS Meego that will replace Maemo 5. Thne Maemo 5 will no longer have supports and updates? Coders will flock to Meego... blink.gif ....the First phone targeted by Nokia/ Intel to come out using Meego is in mid 2010,which is like only 3 months away...

Arghh...decisions decisions...i desperately need a phone now...and i had my eyes on the N900, but if the price is absurd... cry.gif should i wait again....

Guys, i just checked with Nokia centre at the Curve. The phone will only be launched in the 3rd week of March...and the price tag according to the sales girl is...

RM2999!

I think it is totally overpriced... vmad.gif shakehead.gif

I was prepared to pay 2500 at the most...

So wat ur saying is, the difference is just the hardware warranty then rite?

In terms of software firmware updates, the AP version will receive exactly the same updates as the Official phone? Based on my understanding, AP phones come from diff countries, and their tweaks may be diff? Do correct me if i'm wrong.

And yes, i agree that official Nokia stores sell it at the RRP i.e. premium. Therefore, we can still get the original set at other handphone retailers at a slightly lower price from the RRP (discount of RM100-200 + -).

At present, the main problem with the AP users of the N900 is no MMS function and Landscape mode rite? I believe the official launch of this phone will have this problems addressed?

Will this problem be addressed in the firmware updates in the future? Do you think the official phone launch in msia will have mms + video call function?

QUOTE(drexar @ Mar 7 2010, 04:10 PM)
so far i can't use the front camera yet.. maybe have to wait for the next firmware update...

Some disadvantage of N900 right now (what I have found la):

- No built in mms function (install fMMS)
- cannot video call (even skype video call.. normal skype call can)
- u can't group ur contacts.. so if wanna send to several contacts, have to pick one by one.
- No built in function for USSD (*122#) - just install the USSD widget
- does not have a good camera (maybe becoz i used N82 b4 this)

Advantage:
- the best mobile internet browser
- can open many IM in one time..
- multitask function
- clear and bright screen <--- from my personal view tongue.gif
- cool 4 panoramic desktop.. (creativity man)  icon_idea.gif
- cool sms interface (same like IM)

so.. think before u buy.. (i'm still waiting for the new meego to come out soon.. hopefully all of the simple2 function will be fixed then)
*
Good and informative writeup to give a heads up to potential N900 owners icon_rolleyes.gif

this fMMS application can be downloaded from the OVI store for free?

And when u all mention 3rd party software, is readily available for free and where?

Spoke to yet another salesfella at a Nokia outlet, and he says that the price should be around RM2500 when it is launched.

Getting conflicting prices from Nokia salespersonnel. blink.gif

Well, i won't complain if it is priced cheaper than 2999....

Managed to book mine thumbup.gif

I'm so glad the price isn't RM3k

For those of you who managed to book, you only get a "Thank you for pre-ordering the Nokia N900. You will be able to purchase your device on 27th or 28th March 2010 from the Nokia Store at your pre-ordered form" message from the Nokia screen right?
